I honestly really want to see a large RMC Raptor like Jersey Devil in the space, as it would be a far more unique and noteworthy addition for the region, but I’m not sure how willing CF would be go work with RMC again after all the trouble with SV and TT.

Could just rip out the theater, then all of a sudden you have a lane to use for an out and back layout. Featuring a DC rivals style drop.

Crazy idea - what if they renovate the existing theater space in Planet Snoopy and expand the seating capacity with the leftover ground next to Delerium to use as the new concert venue and thus open space up for the ride @Rheath suggested?

I noticed they added a new show in that space this year, but I don't see why they couldn't shift that show's schedule to accommodate the larger shows as needed much like BGW has done with the Royal Palace Theater whenever there's a need.

Can’t they simply leap over the FoF launch tunnel with a modest airtime hill and use a sliver of the stretch of land between I305 and the tracks/power lines for a considerable out and back run? Lots of room, cheaper than major theater infrastructure shenanigans. Leap the FoF launch in the other direction to get back.

Or, if that slice of land is not usable for attractions, then leap over FoF and into I305’s “infield” instead. Tons of track and structure interactions available there.

So my thought for directionally how to set it up:
Lift back to where Volcano's turnaround was, turn back, loop over lift, hop over FoF's launch tunnel, run beside I-305, come back, brake run over FoF launch tunnel.

I'll be able to drive to the Raptor at SFGAdv - it's about the same length of time for me, a bit longer but also a lot easier drive - so I really wouldn't want to also see that at KD. But for those of you in Virginia I could see the value. A Mack multi-launch or a Mack Hyper would be cool. If it was a hyper would KD be required to have OTSRs, though? i305 has them. At what height are they required (or is that not why i305 has them)? Or how about a Mac Hyper that also has a mid-course launch?

My current guesstimate is a Raptor going in Volcano's spot. As far as why I305 has OTSRs, I think it's because of the ride's likeliness to make riders pass out.

At the ACE event the park president didn't seem that thrilled with Twisted Timbers. Well maybe that's an overstatement, but he talked about the issue of the need for draconian loose articles policies, and that slowing things down. He said they are evaluating other options for dealing with it, but I can't see them adding another RMC that will send loose articles flying.

I wonder if it's against a certain manufacturer or ride elements/restraint design, or if it's just become the nature of the beast as we as a culture tend to walk around with far more items in our pockets than we used to.

I thought Tony was mostly joking when he called Twisted Timbers “the pickpocket.” After all, he did say it’s one of his two favorite coasters in the park, along with i305.

I sort of hope it isn’t something like a Mack launcher or Gerstlaur Infinity. Between Flight of Fear, Anaconda, and Dominator, KD already has plenty of inversion-focused coasters, and especially with Pantheon and BGW’s Project 2021, Virginia is already saturated with launch coasters.

I personally don't see Kings Dominion getting a really expensive ride like a Mack launcher or hyper. Between I305 not financially doing as well as they had hoped, a relatively cheap Twisted Timber, and all of the 2019 special events, I think the park will get a somewhat cheaper, possibly well themed, coaster.

Totally agree, especially considering a coaster to replace Volcano almost definitely wasn'tin the park's 5 year plan and thus wasn't budget for.

From what I heard about Volcano's demise, the ride had been updated in some form or fashion back in 2016 but in 2018 the actual volcano was starting to show its age via some structural fatigue. So yeah, KD really wasn't planning on this for too long.

On top of that, Pantheon will already bring a beyond-vertical drop, so the Infinity's selling point is diminished.

After 2021, the only way I'd be excited for a new launch coaster around here would be if it was pneumatic.

Why should KD concern themselves with what BGW is building. Not like they look at Pan and say “Oh no we can’t go beyond vertical.”
