I generally agree that if it's a good enough ride I'm not going to care about theme much but this one just bugs me cause it feels lazy. Themeing without changing a thing on the ride could have been as simple as launch 1 strap into Mercury's sandals for a run, swing launch feel the power of Volcan's hammer swing. Dive to the Rhine feel the force of Neptune's waves as you ride across the river bank. The air tim hill coming up from the Rhine hold on tight as you flee the underworld and Pluto's grasp. Image think about a concept for a fifth god but there you have 4 with actual links of some form to the ride layout without even actually changing a thing about the ride.I think if the ride is god-like, all the talk about the name kinda goes away.
Pantheon honestly gives me immediate Greek/Roman thought. It makes me think back to history class & learning about the difference between Pantheon and Parthenon.
When they reference the “power and speed of the mythical Griffon” it gives me enough story to think about the perch and swooping down of a mythical creature. With Pantheon, a simple reference to the “greatness of the gods” should do the same. But if Griffon was boring and slow, I would laugh at that announcement, and I think we can all laugh at the name Pantheon until we ride it and it makes sense to us.
Perhaps it’s the complete opposite. Maybe they tried too much theming & association. ?I generally agree that if it's a good enough ride I'm not going to care about theme much but this one just bugs me cause it feels lazy.
Exactly this. I feel like if they actually put an ounce of effort into presenting the ride in a way that ties into the name and what they're trying to convey with the 5 gods, it wouldn't feel gimmicky. Right now we're workin with 2 crack shacks, a backstage area as a plaza, and a grass field. That's as Roman as it gets?I generally agree that if it's a good enough ride I'm not going to care about theme much but this one just bugs me cause it feels lazy. If they had just said, “Pantheon - experience the power of the gods” or “Pantheon - worship in fear” maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation. ?
I say it again if it's a strong enough ride you don't have to theme it and can name it something stupid line Launcher 21 or Rage One Seven Nine and I will be thrilled with riding it. But if you are going to theme it and give it a themed name I expect you to put some effort into it.I think it’s the park to be honest. If Six Flags did this, no one would honestly care. But BGW was/is one of the heaviest themed parks not named Disney or Universal. So when they cut corners on theme elements, it’s jarring compared to what the park is.

As for The reference to SF I think of their parks as amusement parks not theme parks there is a difference and it's OK to be an amusement park and not a theme park but Busch has always been a THEME park and there should some expectations that it stay one.
Enough of this debate I am off to see if I can see any testing from the road.
That was my guess, since they were pushing the whole MMXX thing hard. Hell, it'd still work this year, just capitalize the I too!I still remember that people were predicting the name as MMXXimus and then I said DowntimeMaximus
I can see both sides. The pandemic probably caused a lot of cuts, but this is Busch Gardens we're talking about (as much as I love it) not KD. I'd argue most people come here specifically for the experience.

The crazy thing is KD's most recent coaster (Twisted Timbers) has for more theming and storytelling than Pantheon was ever supposed to have. And apparently the upcoming free spin coaster will be more themed than Pantheon too.
I dont get the impression that BGW is falling behind kd in any way..
Would you rather have the mini free spin and 5 million dollars of themeing around it?
