What does a group of Greco-Roman gods have to do with a ride? In my opinion, the name is just lazy. There were so many great options for themes from classical mythology. Instead we got, “fuck it, just name it after all of the gods, skip the theming, and take lunch early.”
You're giving them too much credit calling it a pre-lunch decision. This was a Friday afternoon after everyone who could say no left decision. Like someone was looking up Greco-Roman gods, left a page to the Pantheon open, and someone else just cribbed it. It's like they put a bunch of random Greco-Roman names on a "Jump to Conclusions" mat and just blindfolded someone and told them to jump.

I mean by this naming convention, the name "Alpengeist" doesn't make sense either, it should be like "Alpengeist's ski lift". I think we can overlook roller coaster naming to an extent. As long as it makes some sense, it's fine with me.

Alpengeist makes perfect sense. It references a mystical being.

Poking fun at an arguably much worse name. I think what we got was generous.

Pantheon in my opinion is a safe and fair name. I feel like on its own it serves a very Roman-y name that’s tied directly into what it represents. “A ride fit for the gods.” If Busch’s long term plan is to eventually do a Festa renovation and retheme it to Rome, it would make a whole lot more sense as time progresses.

Genuine criticism is always justifiable, I’m personally just more inclined towards “Pantheon” instead of something like “Centurion.”

What you said about the theming is as real as it gets tho

As I said coasters need to be themed to things that bring to mind movement, danger, forces, etc. “Pantheon” is just a group of gods. What does that possibly have to do with a ride? Being “Roman-y is a hand-wavy cop-out. That isn’t a theme that conveys anything that relates to a coaster.

Also, for accuracy, Pantheon” is from Ancient Greek.

And why is my criticism not ”genuine?” That is fairly consescending.

Okay am I crazy or are mythical gods not along the same line

it really isn't.

Alpengeist creates emotion. Its a word that sounds angry. It invokes something. Same with Griffin. Loch Ness Monster. Heck mock their theming all you want but the names InvadR and Verbolten stoke some type of emotion.

Pantheon just is a name of a group. It's like calling it "Herd" or "Flock" or "People". There's so many great Italian/Roman myths, creatures, and god names they could have invoked with this, but they decided to go somewhat lame with a name more people associate with a building than the intention they used, and then used the Greek God names in their Italian section.

If people think the process of the theme of InvadR (Vikings in French Canada) was a disaster, this is just as bad.

If it were themed to a single god, it might be more in line with Nessie, Griffon, and Alpie. It would have a story and a single logical theme.

Pantheon is themed to the idea of a group of gods. What is the possible storyline?

Off topic but “War in the Pantheon” would make such a great name for an interactive dark ride in the Italy part of the park.

Not to defend the name too much, but they did kinda have a "story" with the different areas of the ride being attributed to different gods.

I guess they couldn't decide on which god to put on the coasters name and just went: "screw it, we use all of them"

As to the queue and station theming - if you look over at AC, what does it have?

The giant throne thing when it was there, the random SPQR signs at the entrance, and the random 'posters' slapped onto the side of the maintenance building. Nothing that couldn't be cheaply fabricated and installed last-minute.

My guess is it'll be something along those lines - columns/statue ruins should be relatively easy to fabricate and install last-minute.

Sounds like they couldn't decide which god to name it after and just went: "screw it, lets just take them all

except it's more or less random names of gods dropped at random points. I go with that idea if say for example Neptune was the segment that just about touched the water but it's the freaking spike for some reason. If you want to name the segments for gods have something that is easily understood to connect them and their powers with that segment.

With all the posts this morning I thought I was going to see videos of full circuit testing. Oh well. Maybe they'll announce it's going to be renamed to Pantheon: The Blast Coaster. That sounds speedier.

To divert things from the name discussion for a minute...

A huge preemptive thanks to all of the people who are going to go out of their way to drive past Busch Gardens Williamsburg this week trying to spot Pantheon testing! It's all a roll of the dice each time, but hopefully someone wins big in the coming days!

I think if the ride is god-like, all the talk about the name kinda goes away.

Pantheon honestly gives me immediate Greek/Roman thought. It makes me think back to history class & learning about the difference between Pantheon and Parthenon.

When they reference the “power and speed of the mythical Griffon” it gives me enough story to think about the perch and swooping down of a mythical creature. With Pantheon, a simple reference to the “greatness of the gods” should do the same. But if Griffon was boring and slow, I would laugh at that announcement, and I think we can all laugh at the name Pantheon until we ride it and it makes sense to us.
