I'd think, before we see any ground work, there'll be work along Rhine to insure sediment, etc. doesn't run off into the river; perhaps starting with those sediment catch basins the plans show and ringing some areas with those floating boom curtains.

So wait how many of the trees on the edge are they taking out?

I mean most likely a lot of that will be coming out. Hard to do construction that tight.

Depends. If they are prepping the land on the 'plateau' first, then no need for those that early. But, I would agree that they need to put those out fast. I think boom curtains and dredging could happen when no guests are there. But again catch-22. Can't do the hillside work until it's clear, but they need to catch sediment from land they clear.

It's a very good recreation attempt. But I hope the actual takes a more "aggressive" approach than is depicted.

Like @madmax stated, I would hope for more airtime elements. The Parc Asterix presentation mentions 23 airtime elements. Some of those occur prior to the switch track - the BGW plans and this video indicate a much shorter distance than the PA depiction so those elements are missing.

I know this "guesstimate" is to highlight the projected coaster track and not the surroundings but I hope the "real thing" has a lot more interaction with the terrain -
  • Depending on the theme/name, there needs to be props, rocks and more as you exit the station. Don't give us another Verbolten "thru the trees" start.
  • I'd love some subterranean effects as in the PA demo. Maybe @Zachary might see if the landscape plans indicate anything. Some dips thru tight "canyons" would be great.
  • I know it's not conceivable at this point, but I wish we'd gotten a little closer to the Rhine on that drop.
  • I wonder if the BGW safety department will require the train to "beep beep beep" when it backs up?

Are we sure this coaster is 2020? Parc Asterix's is 2021. If this is 2020, that would mean this will be the first with the new mid-course backward launch track switch. You know what that means... Lots of downtime.

Yes it’s confirmed 2020

While not mid-course, Soaring with Dragon has been operating with a switch track since '16. Not that that'll will guarantee we won't see downtime, but they've had some "practice".

Technically IoA Hagrid Coaster is first...

The only reason Hagrid Coaster doesn’t count is the coaster train stops for the track to switch, same with Soaring with dragons. Whereas this and parc asterix do not stop that’s what makes them ultra-fast side switch.

200 ft about

Btw someone I know did a calculation with the mock layout and got the length of the ride around 3800 feet

Plan: This Height Waiver shall be valid for a 255-foot waiver to the height limitation
requirements set forth in the James City County Code to allow for the erection of the
Attraction up to 315 feet above finished grade (or up to 387 feet above mean sea level)
as generally shown on the plan prepared by Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., entitled
Busch Gardens Williamsburg – Height Waiver Sight Lines.” For the purposes of this
application, “finished grade” is defined as 72 feet above sea level.

That waiver is most likely for the top hat, so up to 315', including support structure and anything mounted to it.

That's the part that has me confused. On the Intamin Park Asterix announcement they indicate a 148 ft top hat.
First launch towards the TH is 50mph
Backwards boost to 60mph up the spike
Second forward launch is 67mph to crest the TH
Drop off the TH is when it hits top speed of about 76mph.

So, how fast does it have to go to be able to get up twice the height? And dropping that far seems to me to achieve a much faster speed than 76mph...which means you get back to the station in maybe (tongue in cheek) 6 seconds after the drop.

Maybe the spike is the tall one?

I'm saying the waiver is most likely for the top hat given the overlay of Zachary's track layout analysis on the height waiver / balloon test map, see overlay from a few pages back. The spike isn't near the high point.

It could be for another element (not likely if a top hat is in play), but it can't be for the spike, unless the waiver needs to be updated or the analysis of the layout is wrong.

Now the top hat structure may not use the full 315' permissible... But I assume they filed it based on at least a working concept plan so I'm not expecting it to be way off, like 200' or something. And a top hat approaching those heights makes more sense me than a spike--I don't know of a spike that approaches the tallest top hats.

I don't want to appear argumentative, I'm just having a hard time conceptualizing the speed factor coming down the Top Hat with the added height. Desperato has 225 ft drop and hits 80mph. We're pushing past what Intamin's PA design and the "slide" have said. So, I assume we're looking at trim brakes if we're adding height. Hopefully I'll grasp it someday. ?
