Same. Alpengeist in particular. I was of a certain age to spend curiously immense amounts of time thinking about that particular layout when the ride and its general location were made known, but before any layout images had made their way around the web. (The 90s were such a different time...)

Hearing tales about the locations that were considered for Griffon, honestly I'd love to see those too, were it possible. Still... if there were just one for me, it would be Alpengeist.

Edit: just remembered the thread title. Looking forward to Pantheon!

Everything I have to say about the status of Pantheon is in BGWFans' latest article. There's not really any news in there if you've followed this thread, but it may be worth a read regardless.

Might as well save it for 2023.

I know this is a joke, but I'm going to address it as a serious take because I've seen people sorta allude to "What makes 2022 different? If the boom continues and the park is super busy in 2022, doesn't this justification enable the park to just keep pushing it?"

The big difference is when Pantheon could open in 2022. It's easy to imagine Pantheon debuting before the end of Q1. Generating a ton of extra attendance in March and April is far easier than finding room for surplus attendance in May, June, July, and August which is really what BGW would have been faced with if they attempted an opening this year.

So even if the park boom continues (fingers crossed!) attendance will still follow the normal ebbs and flows and it will almost certainly make good financial sense to open Pantheon early next year.

I think it's not just having crowds, because in normal times they'd take it all the way to Every Day is a Saturday if they could, it's Perceptions. It's one thing to have a couple of TV ads reminding people the park is open and ready, another thing to be on every local news broadcast wedged between 2 pieces on COVID. I really think there was a chance of Pantheon opening mid-summer if things had continued to improve

^I don't think BGW gives a rats ass THAT much what KD is doing. They know they have the superior reputation overall with the general public. You see it on reddit all the time in subs like r/rva where people will comment like "I dont know why anybody goes to KD anymore when Busch Gardens is down the street." If you have any more optimism than late Spring 2022 or early Summer 2022 you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. On the bright side hey in early 2022 we get an Intamin Blitz AND an S&S Free Spin in our state and I have no complaints about that.
I live between the two and was born roughly between when they originally opened. So, it was always a yearly decision. My measuring stick was "Am I tall enough for Loch Ness yet?". KD was the big winner for several years in my teens when they had killer concert line-ups. BG was the huge winner in the college years when I lived in Williamsburg and going after class for one ride and ice cream (and of course, the brewery) didn't seem like a big deal. I would suggest though KD started a massive downward spiral beginning when then renamed the Rebel Yell and have not pulled out of it. The ONLY impact they have on BG at the point is maybe taking away some potential employees. My kids are grown now but so far BG (and WC) this year has been our cure for being locked down so long. Do I feel misled that I bought passes based on their sales pitch that Patheon would be open in 2021 - absolutely! Have we had fun anyway - absolutely! In fact, heading out there in a few minutes with one of them. PS - have to throw in a plug for Little River Band - they were sounding great a few weeks ago.

So what ive heardis this....the park is saving Pantheon for 2022 to boost attendance in slow periods. Right now the plan is to open Thursdays from noon till 2:15pm in Jan and Feb, Mon through Thursdays in March and April except for March 17th because they will be offering the leftover free green beer from 2020....April 1st they will open it from 8pm till 11:59 for passholders but not members but only if their pass numbers end with the letter "Z". It will be closed in March from the 2nd till the 31st for its annual service and to repain the track and do rust repair due to age. June, July and August they plan on opening it every day even hours only when the sun is out and the day of the week dosent end in "Y". This comprehensive plan will mos certainly help fill the park on slow days and show a massive ROI to shareholders.
By the way....im joking.

My biggest complaint with Pantheon are all the trees that were cut down around the Italian garden (It’s called an Italian garden even though it’s not quite symmetrical). I always enjoyed grabbing a Peroni, finding a bench in the shade and enjoying some peace and quiet. Now they cut down all the trees so you’re baking in the sun while listening to a bunch of people screaming on the ride. This isn’t a singular event. First there was Elmo’s Asphalt Jungle and then they cut down the trees around Apollo’s Chariot for the worst coaster in the park. Thanks to FF the view to the left when entering Ireland is hideous. At least you can enjoy some peace and quiet until 2022 while cooking in the sun. I always considered BGW a step up from SF and CF parks but it’s getting even worse and starting to look like a Disney park.

Umm... What trees in the Garden of Invention (since that is the only 'Italian garden' currently open to the public) were touched for the construction of Pantheon - ya know, the ride built on the site of the old horse pasture area in the middle of the park that didn't have many trees on it to begin with?

Also, what trees around AC were cut, presumably for Tempesto, that has anything to do with being able to sit in the shade?

I think either you've not been to the park in a long time and are confused with what's actually there or are just trying to stir up trouble over nothing.

If you were just upset over trees getting cut down in general and changing the aesthetic, that's a different story, however. But in that case keep in mind that most rides have a lot of vegetation removed during construction only for the plants to grow back in so that you'd never notice they were gone if you didn't know what to look for.

Regarding trees, why don’t we all hope and pretend that SEAS will put something in the middle of that field to do something with the ride. Righttttt.

I mean, hoping for some broken ruins kind of landscaping over trees, but would be cool if they could plant some olive trees or something alongside such theming.

Realistically, if they plant any (haven't seen that they had but correct me if I'm wrong) it'll be native species to that part of Virginia.

The trees around Da Vinci's Garden of Invention were cut by the Colonial Pipeline Company, not for Pantheon.

Zach - I'm so sorry I was just kidding. lol
Oh snap, Carter's back! First thing that popped in my head when I saw your post, but then I looked at your post history and realized you never really left.

I think all this back and forth about value for the pass members regarding the promised opening of P in 2021 is all valid, however as a pass member, I also am willing to take a back seat to the piles of revenue coming in from non pass-holders just so they can recoup some revenue from the past almost 18 months. I am happy that the park is packed, and continue to make a decision on if I want to deal with that or not when/if I go. An empty park is scary.

Also, so we keep it on point to the tread, I think P is ugly. I hate the color scheme of the yellow trains against the gold tracks. Just came to that conclusion when I was reading the new blog post. A black on gold would have looked better.

Related: the Pantheon post was started by Shane who hasnt posted in a very long time now; though I have heard he lurks from time to time.
