RE: Project Madrid: New Hamlet? Giga Coaster? 315' Tower?

The issue with this is that the LSMs use a lot more power than a traditional lift.  It may not be feasible for many parks to start using this technology.

THIS!

To pile on here...

There is another thing to consider, Brother William of Ockham's Razor which states that, "...among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected..."

Provided this to be true it could be extrapolated that from an engineering stand point, Mr. of Ockham's sharp object can be applied to solutions when solving for robustness.  Among competing solutions the simplest one will usually be the best.

In our case a mechanical lift is much less complex then an kind of linear motor as it is a purely analog device.  You can take it a step further and say that a chain lift with chain dogs is more robust still in comparison to a other forms or mechanical lift.

So if you are concerned about least down time and cheapest repair, you might consider the system that has been around for 100 years.

I'd like to point out (in my hopes that this attraction turns out to be a B&M ______________) that 2019 will be B&M's (theoretical) 30th year in operation. Founded 1988 and designed their first coaster, Iron Wolf, in 1989 with a 1990 delivery.

Upon reading pages, upon pages of pure speculation like this (not singling anyone out) I hope PFN doesn't fall under the category of fake news.

Honestly guys, there's a plethora of buzz going around to be causation for all the hype. But, at the risk of sounding like a pessimist, it is strictly that. Hype.

I love speculating as much as the next coaster nerd. I love the hype, its electrifying in a way and gets me reminiscing on the I305 days when we saw track show up in the parking lot! It's exciting, but there is a chance we all get let down. Keep the negative in sight and stay humble ya'll.

Not trying to be a dick, but we've cluttered the forum terribly with nothing but speculation and that can reflect poorly on the forum's reputation. All it takes is one idiot at a local network (it has happened before) to pick up on a post and pass it as news citing PFN. It's a bit risky so I say we save the jeans soiling excitement until the higher-ups uncover newsworthy evidence. That may not risk the community's credibility.

Zimmy and Unagi, I get what you guys are saying, I still think using launch systems to get a train to the top is going to become more commonplace. Notice I didn't say it's going to take over, just commonplace.

Parks will be able to reach higher speeds with a smaller footprint, add some more unique elements, and allow for more dispatches in a day (less time spent climbing the lift hill).

Anyways back onto topic.

Few things here:
If a news network wants to pick up on speculation by a bunch of random people on the internet (that's what we are), that's a bigger hit to the news network for running it than it is on us for speculating. What's the point of a forum if we don't speculate some?

As for the days of track just showing up...those days are long gone. The marketing hype from teasing new attractions brings interest to the park much more than just having the track show up. I think also there was a time when height requirements passed by unnoticed by everyone except those the closest to the park. But now fans are on the lookout as we tend to know what all these timelines mean and how to decipher some of this information.

:shru: I wasn't down here then so I can't speak on that one. Although I think if that ride was hyped the way Invadr was and that's all you got there would have been some backlash.

There is still some backlash about Tempesto. Although I do enjoy the ride the capacity is horrible. Its the shortest ride in the park. It has the 3rd longest wait for a coaster. I regularly completely ignore that it's even there.
I was disappointed with Busch on Tempesto because all of the other coasters are custom and use the terrain. You could argue Griffon isn't, but there aren't many dive coasters. There definitely wasn't many in 2007.
I just hope whatever this is doesn't disappoint. The Rhine makes an amazing spot for a custom coaster. I believe that's why everyone has been arguing coaster from the beginning. Anything else would be a disappointment and a waste of that spot that already has a trail leading down to the Rhine and back up again.

RE: Project Madrid: New Hamlet? Giga Coaster? 315' Tower?

My point was that it was only a couple of years ago and track did in fact, "just appear". The park went out of their way to try to hide what was happening, so I do not think it is fair to say that those days are "long gone."
(Hell. Nicole, Zachary, and Gavin basically hyped the damn thing for the park, and they went into complete denial mode.)

It is not fair, especially considering the parks recent past, to assume that their marketing team knows what it is doing or will be consistent with what they have done in the past. (Tempesto/ Invadr)

RE: Project Madrid: New Hamlet? Giga Coaster? 315' Tower?

So you decided to take my industry statement generalization and applied it to a single case?

I'm not assuming the marketing team knows what it's doing or not. Just saying that in general, the ability for parks to just have track show up and everyone is oblivious is gone. People look for these things now and the ability to hide what you are doing is limited.

I wonder how it will be themed, if it turns out to be a Star Flyer.

Hmm. If it's in an existing hamlet I think something around Eiffel Tower (slim because of KD) or maybe the leaning tower of Pisa.

If it's a new hamlet, I think two towers themed around the Straights of Gilbralter or Pillars of Hercules.

If this new attraction is a star flyer or some other type of tower then there is plenty time for it open by the beginning of next season.

3 trips on the train today. 3rd time the person at the back of the train has mentioned that Griff is the tallest coaster in the park "for now".

Very interesting that 3 different ride ops chose to say that.
