General Information:

"Project Drachen Spire," is a community-generated identifier for the Intamin-made, multi-launch, shuttle giga coaster that was originally slated to open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2021. The attraction is planned to utilize the currently-vacant land behind Verbolten, Festhaus Park—the former home of Drachen Fire.

The coaster's main layout—as leaked before the addition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic—featured two launches, two spikes (one spiral, one vertical-ish), and a couple of banked turns. Drachen Spire was designed to run two trains by means of a pair of switch tracks connecting the primary, shuttle portion of the layout to the station platform.

Personally I’m not necessarily happy with what we’re all expecting here but I could have lived with it if it at least launched backwards or something. The biggest bummer to me is having a 300+’ drop in the park where you’re not going to see anything except the sky, that just seems like a complete waste even more than the ride concept in general.

wait.... wuuuuut.... Y'ALL WOULD RATHER HAVE A START FLYER THAN WHAT WILL PROBABLY BE THE TALLEST, FASTEST ROLLER COASTER IN THE MIDATLANTIC?????????? ?

From what I can tell, a part of the issue with building on the drachen fire site is the amount of old footers buried under the ground that would require demolition. I'd rather get this coaster than nothing at all.

I think that something of this that can save an out and back shuttle coaster for me is if it some how a prototype or 'experimental' in a way.

It really depends on the routing, etc. of the new "attraction". Only those footers in the way will require demo. I don't recall a lot in the leaked plans. But, take a look at Iron Gwazi construction. There's a lot of footers not being reused and are just being "ignored". I'm sure they'll be covered like the DF footers were.

Is it bad that I feel like a star flyer would be a much better fit and investment than this thing?
Honestly, I agree with you. This is a very Six Flags kind of ride. Putting it this way: Verbolten is a better use of the Big Bad Wolf plot than the Bent Superman EFK / Triangular Red Force will be of the Drachen Fire plot.

I'm expecting a backlash that will make the reaction to Orion look like the reaction to Steel Vengeance. At least the Kings Island guys were asking for a giga in the first place.

The park already has enough backwards-forwards launches without even counting Pantheon. However a single truly intense launch, or even one broken into 2 sharp bursts, with good capacity and reliability, could still be decent even as just a shuttle. With a 2 train system, such a short ride could still have capacity.
