General Information:

"Project Drachen Spire," is a community-generated identifier for the Intamin-made, multi-launch, shuttle giga coaster that was originally slated to open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2021. The attraction is planned to utilize the currently-vacant land behind Verbolten, Festhaus Park—the former home of Drachen Fire.

The coaster's main layout—as leaked before the addition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic—featured two launches, two spikes (one spiral, one vertical-ish), and a couple of banked turns. Drachen Spire was designed to run two trains by means of a pair of switch tracks connecting the primary, shuttle portion of the layout to the station platform.

I still will firmly hold my ground on this project. It was absolutely stupid, and a lazy way to win back the heigh and speed record for Virginia. No loss to me with this being cancelled.
Agreed. Even if Holzfäller is a rigid mount bog-standard invert (so Son of Alpengeist) like GoHokies87 says, it'll still be a better addition to the park's lineup than Spire would have been.

I like to think of holzfaller as more of a younger not yet on drugs version of Alpengeist instead of a son. I always assumed the spire project as off the table with the completion of pantheon. Surely the park didn’t have plans for two “spire” rides in under a five year period.

We don’t know exactly what eventually caused the pivot to Holzfaller, but Drachen Spire was 100% still very much deep into the development and planning process well after Pantheon was already under construction. They had zero problem with two similar rides/launches.

In fact if it weren’t for the pandemic hitting when it did, Drachen Spire was so far along that it almost surely would have happened if the entire world didn’t come to a standstill and throw a wrench in their timeline. I believe we were at a point in early 2020 where Pantheon was supposed to open for 2020 and Drachen Spire would open for 2021 - that’s how close it was to happening.

Well that might have been the only positive from the pandemic, such a dumb choice to push forward with such similar rides, I was under impression pantheon was a pivot from dragon spire, where we were first getting a both sides large ride then a German side dragon spire ride, then ended up with a Italy side spire ride.
