People as a whole aren't that smart, and it's the assumption from those who aren't aware of the closeness between the real life geography.

Unassuming guests would wonder why is Pompeii so far away from 'Vesuvius', nevermind the fact that they aren't that close in real life.

Nobody really thinks about Viking history, since it's not taught a lot in schools. (Or at least it wasn't when I was in school) while Pompeii is a sort of interesting piece of history (plus the science behind volcanos) that I feel, and I could 100% be wrong on this, that more people remember the history of the event, but aren't so much taught the geography of the event. If that makes sense. (I trust the American education system very little to teach geography.)

I don't think people weren't taught as much as they don't care. I know people who think Pompeii was the name of the mountain not the city. If the park needs to 'explain' the Geography: Festa Italia is Naples, MMXX is Vesuvius, Pompeii, San Marco is, I dunno, Genoa.

You're right, that plays into account too. And it's not up to the park to explain geography to people. However, I'm thinking about this from a generic guest stand point. If it's something guests won't question (Vikings in new France) it's a lot easier to get away with it, than something more people are familiar with.

I honestly like idea to name it Vesuvius. I think it's a good name. But I don't think the park would go with that as a name because of the reasons I've given. But, I've been wrong about the park before, and we don't know the answer until they tell us, so the point is moot.

I'm so glad Parkfans isn't naming this ride. The coaster design is a let down (to me). The colors are meh. Here's hoping they at least get a name right.
'Mercury' & 'Minotaur' have potential. Haven't really seen any others with potential. I'm guessing Hercules but don't necessarily like it as a name/theme.

edit: Centurion is pretty good, as well.

Centurion is truly my favorite suggestion so far. It just has a good sound to it. Seeing as this ride has no actual confirmed theming, I think a generic Roman soldier name and appropriate color scheme is what we can expect.
