RE: Project 2018: Battle for Eire (Virtual Reality Attraction)

So "Battle for Eire" will not only have the virtual reality version, but will include a "standard" version akin to how the films were done for "Questor" and "Corkscrew Hill"?

YAAAS!! :D

I am a ok with the ride name. This is why you wait before judging. Yes there’s some historical implications but it looks like they wanted to use Eire because it’s more representative of the time period.

I like what I see.  I wish it had the awesome logo from before though.

I do like the logo's typography which has a fairy tale/Old Country design aesthetic that makes me very happy. Maybe that awesome logo that we saw during the presentation might be used as the castle's emblem in the ride que and/or park merchandise.

This looks like it's going to be really cool and I can't wait. I like that it's being done in 4K as with it you can see the fine details even in the standard version if the projector is 4K as the screen will be big and close enough to see that resolution. My only hope is that they don't program it so it throws you around and gives you a headache or sore neck.

^^Corkscrew in the Eire

By the way, it's worth noting that the video is being rendered in 4K HD, but just like Europe in The Air, it won't come with that same display resolution. I wonder if they will update the projectors, since they have been the same since Corkscrew Hill. It's not the main display, but the screen will still be there.

I'm surprised no one noticed this but in the video, when it shows the name of the ride, there is a part image in the concept art of what the dragon (who we "ride" on during the story) may look like. Now this is pretty cool that we have a traditional looking dragon who happens to be an apparent good guy to the story other than Addie the Fairy Guardian. I guess it would make sense that he's a good guy considering that he and Addie are part of the emblem logo.

I found this interesting https://youtu.be/wJAlI4HDK7s?t=5m56s

In the Game of Thrones Making of The Loot Train Attack video, about 5m and 56s in the video I linked, they show Daenerys on a green screen stage pretending to fly atop the dragon.

What is really neat is that the motion base that they used for the effects looks nearly identical to the Europe in the Air motion base. Emilia even went on to say it is very much like being strapped on an amusement park ride.

I thought this was very interesting and even more relevant since EitA's motion base is going to be used for the VR 2018 project which by the preview could also feature dragons.

I thought the Game of Thrones connection to the VR 2018 Project was uncanny and cool.

Maybe this new ride will be GoT themed haha

Just pointing this out again, how extremely coincidental that the same tech used to make Daenerys fly a dragon for Game of Thrones, is the exact same tech used for EITA, and that this ride will have you riding a dragon.

I for one am happy with the progress; I never doubted the park would do a good job with it.

I was suspecting we'd see some fairy-folk.   That's very consistent with Irish mythology, so they're on track with that.

You all know what concerns I have with the name... :) but again, merely pointing something out, and like I said about keeping it in perspective, I doubt most people would have a clue.  And it's not pre-judging the ride itself or thinking they would have invoked modern references--they're maybe tone deaf, not stupid or deliberately insensitive--as of course this is time period they would have gone for and what they think would be an appropriate name.

And well they should go for that time period, for there are a wealth of Irish mythological themes upon which to draw...  So I'm interested in seeing how the story line comes together.

No, as for the name...the bigger issue for most will be how to pronounce it.  :)

I think it's pronounced either "air" or "era"; though "ira" might be the correct pronunciation.

Closest English approximation would be "AIR-uh."   I'd bet dollars to donuts I'll hear "Erie" though, as in the lake.  I expect "eer-uh" will be most common. I really hope the "native Irish speaker" playing Addie gets it right... :) (I assume they actually mean Irish native--she's from Ireland and speaks English with an Irish accent; probably doesn't know any actual Irish beyond grade school).

At least "Eire" is spelled correctly for it's official name. And the ride looks freakin' sweet, can't wait until 2018. :)

Technically, no.  It should be Éire, not Eire (it's missing the accent, which changes the definition).  Séamus & Líam too.  :) But it does look sweet so far.

And PS SEAS--"Lads and Lasses" is Scots, not Irish, wrong hamlet. :)

Thanks thopping for that good info. I guess what I meant by spelling it right I mean that usually the park names rides like "Verbolten", "DarKastle", "Invadr" etc. At least here, even though they didn't have the accent on the "E", at least it's closest to the actual word. :)

^"Say it with me: Baaaaattttlllle Kllllaaasssshhhh". ;)

I believe that "Battle for Eire" may be one of the most ambitious projects the park has ever tackled with this sort of state of the art technology and details since Curse of DarKastle. And no, Verbolten doesn't count.
