RE: Project 2017

I have the opposite question: Why separate "Important" threads at all?  If a thread is important, generally it will be at or near the top of the thread stack anyway due to post recency.  If a thread isn't at or near the top of the thread stack, then how important is it?

Sure, there may be "Important" threads that see extended lulls in posting for one reason or another while still getting views, therefore sinking down into thread oblivion if not saved by a measure of "importance" orthogonal to posting popularity.  It seems to me that these would be somewhat rare, and they could be saved by sorting threads using a mixed metric of post recency and unique daily view frequency.

In other cases I just scratch my head. "Germany Train Station" is an "Important" thread under Rumors.  Nobody has posted anything in it since late August 2015.  "Resort Hotel" has 50 more posts than "Germany Train Station," has seen thread activity 6 months (!) more recently, and pertains to a concept that is not only potentially related to the train station but also substantially larger in scope and strategic direction for the park. Yet "Resort Hotel" is NOT an "Important" thread.  I don't get it.

Should this go under Meta? Someone should put it there and mark it "Important," just to mess with me.

RE: Project 2017

I don't want this thread to divert down this path too much, but I'll say this: I totally agree with you 100% and I think removing the structure entirely should be put before the panel. I may just do that now.

Anyway, back to Project 2017. :)

The park posted a segment about the name choices on their blog.

Note the header photo....

Looks like someone been playing around with No Limits.

I love no limits☺, I think its kinda cool that major companies are using the same program that many people use to create some pretty awesome coasters, including myself.

What does a wooden coaster with a steel structure look like? I've never heard of a coaster with that composition (I've also never ridden a wooden coaster).

It somewhat worries me that they already have set the ride duration at one minute, thirty seconds. They usually overshoot the duration early on.

I hope that this is at least without considering the lift hill. The park could get a reputation soon for ride durations that probably aren't even worth the wait (Tempesto,Griffon, flats).

The minute and 30 definitely includes the lift and may even the transfer tracks. The pov I made comes in at about 1:30 exactly, station to station.

The only reason I have never ridden Tempesto is because the line is always too long for such a short ride. I guess we'll just have to hope that this coaster doesn't turn out that way.

I'm 99% sure that this is going to have more than one train, which is why Tempesto is so slow. Also unlike Tempesto, this is a coaster.

Tempesto has wheel bogies that are made up of road wheels, guide wheels, and up stop wheels that "ride" on a rail. That classifies it as a roller coaster.

Welcome to the forums! For some clarification, Tempesto being referred to as a flat ride is a running joke here on the forums.  While it is a coaster in the strictest of definitions, some of us feel that it does not meet the BGW standard of a coaster, hence the joke.

Oh. I was trying to figure out why you wouldn't think it is but now I get it.

That and to me Tempesto has the feel of a flat ride instead of a coaster

RE: Project 2017

As the person who first said that Tempesto is either a mediocre coaster or a relatively fun flat, let me expand on what PK said.

Obviously, it is technically a roller coaster. That said, in many ways it seems more like a flat ride to me.

The ride experience, itself, is more akin to what I would expect on a pendulum. At its core it just goes back and forth and eventually upsidedown.

The fact that it can only run one train, makes it seem like a slightly more complicated version of a Larson Fire Ball. It feels as if it could be a single piece, going around a continuous loop.

The capacity and ride operations remind me to a flat ride. You have to wait in the station until the ride completes its circuit and the previous guests are unloaded.

Based on the parks usual schedule of adding a flat and then a coaster, it certainly seems as if they view it as being more akin to Mach Tower than Verbolten. Honesty, they plopped a small clone in Festa with little to no marketing. Compare that to what is currently happening with Project 2017. It does not seem to have the same importance to BGW as a coaster.

I hope all of that made some sense? I guess at the end of the day, Tempesto feels more like a flat than a coaster to me.

RE: Project 2017

Just throwing this out there...for a future poll, what if it was a ride element. Do you remember seeing schematics for an S curve U-turn, then a week or so later a schematic showed the current helix ending. Could they have both layouts blueprinted giving us the option?

I had an addition put on my house in the fall and I drew multiple schematics when trying to settle on the ultimate layout to give to the city for approval and even then a few elements had to change along the way. Until they build it, it's only on paper and things can change. Hell, we've seen roller coasters change even after they've been built.

I agree. I wrote a little about it in my visit write up. Tempesto is a coaster masquerading as a flat masquerading as a coaster. I guess calling it a coaster wouldn't be wrong, but it's got the run time, capacity, and excitement level of most flats to me. It's a glorified flat, and underwhelming coaster.

It's the type of ride I would go on if the line were short and I were in the area. But it's not like the other coasters at BGW where I'm walking to an area just for that ride.

RE: Project 2017

So, as interesting as this discussion is, may I request that we get back on topic? Any further thoughts on Tempesto should be posted here.

Thanks!

I got a feeling the ride element is going to be something silly in the tunnel. Noises (like screaming villagers or invading vikings), visual elements, or something else. Or something like an overbanked turn vs a regular turn.
