RE: Project 2017

My .02 cents on Viking Invadr Klash until further notice:

The layout does not seem remarkable. Neither does Apollo's Chariot's when viewed from the air without height contexts. But we all love it nonetheless.

It's small, and actually could have some overbanking that would make up for the tiny footprint and lack of other "wow" potential.

I think this coaster will *look* good from the outside and from LeScoot. We forget about the involvement it will have there, so that's one plus.

There's a lot of unknowns, and yes the theme is not a string suit, but I am more excited that we did not receive a small-scale Mack Spinner, though Tampa will likely have great success with theirs (and deserves it) as a custom attraction we don't absolutely have to copy.

I view this coaster like I view mayonnaise or mustard. It's not something I get overly excited about, but it does make a difference in the right contexts. Burn me with Carter for likening project 2017 to condiments, but I think you get the idea. ;)

That being said, who's going to be there with me opening day?

RE: Project 2017

I'm looking forward to having a wooden coaster. I'm getting old, and my days of riding Apollo is nearing its end. So I'm happy to have a family coaster in the park. I don't feel Verbolten really counts as a family coaster. This new ride could be a great step up for kids who are too big for Grover but too nervous about Bolt. The theme could be interesting if it isnt half-assed. Especially if they can keep a natural feel in that area. Griffon is a great ride, but so many trees and natural setting were sacrificed for it. BG is about settings for me. If I wanted giant coasters and asphalt I'd go to Kings Dominion. (I haven't been there in almost 20 years so forgive me if the atmosphere has changed at KD).

RE: Project 2017

Honestly, roller coaster themes are silly to get spun up about. I'm more interested in the ride elements. That being said, for the Theme Nazis, I present the following:

Some of you are having an issue with the historical accuracy presented with the general theme BGW has given us. There's a simple solution that BGW may be holding back: ghosts. As in, what if the ghosts of the Vikings are haunting the Canadian Settlers (OMFG!!!!11ones).

Problem solved.

Didn't think about the ghost idea. If I insert that tidbit in the theme, I'm satisfied.
Still think "The Ghost of the Viking Raider: Battle Klash-Invadr" is a bit much, but then again, people still have issues with the missing E in "Valravn." :p

RE: Project 2017

Personally, I am concerned with the number of people who think the theme makes sense historically (not necessarily on this Forum, but in general).  In other words, my biggest issue isn't with the theme, itself, but the fact that people don't know that it  doesn't reflect a possible event in human history.  If you are happy with 11th Century Vikings attacking a 17th Century Quebecois village, that is fine, as long as you understand those two groups did not occupy North America at the same time.  (Yes, I know that there were Norse settlements for hundreds of years after the initial arrival, but not up through 1600s).

What about the Ghost of Christmas Past? XD

RE: Project 2017

Is it any more worse than a Griffon representing France when its an Greek origin creature? I mean, yea trying to say Vikings and French Canada Settlements at the same time were bad, but if you want to make the theme of the ride to be battling an invading force, who else are you going to use?

Maybe they'll add to the theme that the Vikings found a tardis...

I hope this wasn't meant for me? I didn't object to the theme.

No no no, just in general. I kinda like the theme. Better than a run away logging truck or something like that.

I have some thoughts on that and some other things not project 2017 related, but not quite sure where to put them. Maybe put it in my trip report on that.

The Griffon is not just a Greek origin creature its tales and legends can be found all across Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa.

I'm supporting the notion that aliens picked them up and moved them through time.  I hope the aliens remembered to supply them with guns.
They're probably the same aliens who abducted the Loch Ness Monster and relocated it to the Rhine River.

RE: Project 2017

I'm okay with a retheme as long as the changes are minor structure-wise. I love the wooded area. As long as that feel is maintained I'm good with some changes to the hamlet.
