RE: Project 2017

I like how you threw 'probably remote' in there Nicole. While I agree there is a remote chance there is something like that going on, I can't help but blame Gwazi's shortcomings on poor planning. Please correct me if I am wrong here, but I was led to believe that Gwazi's issues were mainly environmental. I never though that GCI would or should feel responsible for rotting wood caused by humidity.

I think there is a possibility (probably remote) that it is because of what happened with Gwazi that we are getting a GCI project.  In other words, perhaps GCI is in part repaying the company for everything that went wrong in Tampa.

Sorry for being a little unknowing here, but could you direct me in the right direction to understand all the history with what happened with Gwazi?

It's strange for my to be coming from a park with great relationship with Intamin and GCI to one that has had so many issues with both companies. And on top of that both companies have created great rides for that park.

Gwazi isn't THAT bad. It was much smoother than anything at KD. Esp when they got the new trains in 2010.

To be clear, I liked Gwazi, but I know I am in the minority.

My understanding is that BGT brought GCI in to fix Gwazi, including replacing the trains. Apparently, many people thought it was rougher, when they were done, and the park closed the coaster permanently three years later.

RE: Project 2017

Gwazi had huge upkeep and fairly low ridership. Many attribute it to being rough, some beg to differ. The reason for the high upkeep as well as possible roughness is generally considered to be due to the humid climate. Once again it's hard to tell if that holds any water.

Could this coaster have steel supports? is that a GCI thing? Perhaps an oppurtunity for GCI to convince BGT to refurb.

So did everyone actually vote on a name?

I hate all of them so I'm not gonna even bother voting.

I'm just gonna call it a random Swedish slang word.  I think Sur-fjas will do!

I did cause despite wishing there was a better selection for the name, I'd would rather have Invadr than Viking Raiders, which is a rip off of a sports team, and Battle Klash, Which sounds like a bad rock song.

I think it would be fascinating for them to have a French Car and a Viking Car and each have some kind of different ride experience.

The first wooden wing coaster AND wooden spinner coaster. As one.

Wooden 4d wing spinner. First coaster with triple axis motion.

Maybe they're just going to turn new France in Norway or something... But seriously a haunted mine or something would be infinitely better suited for the overarching theme of new France than VIKINGS.

Funny i heard it was to be the first wooden inverted multi launch coaster on top of all the above.

Hm. KD's closed the Hurler for 2016. Something tells me that we're about to see KD get an RMC and, honestly, that's more appealing to me than a short GCI. We'll see what Busch pulls off, but this attraction feels pretty "standard" to me so far. We'll see though....

RE: Project 2017

I would not count on a RMC makeover, they are fairly busy these days. From what the write up said it looks like a straight re-furb.

Can you post the write-up on Hurler mentioned? I must have missed it.

Keeping on topic, the names are all terrible that it's hard to decide which to vote for. The best of the worst, I suppose!

Okie Doke folks, here's what I came up with in glorious 1080p 60fps:

Obviously I can't guarantee accuracy, but it's pretty darn close.
Max drop: 74ft
Max Speed: 48mph
Mex Height: 57ft
Duration: 1:34
Length:2179ft
