Pardon the terrible drawing (Paint isn't the best tool), but here is the track layout over top of the CC site plan if it helps anyone.

Is there a scale on this plan? Or does anyone know it?  I can't find one on the page.  I'd like to compare that to a map/birds eye view of the BGW site at the same scale.

My best (educated) guess would be 60 scale. Printed it at 100% and used a scale to measure a known distance on the plans (measured on Google Maps first). Not very accurate considering I don't have a plotter and the image is blurry, but it will do.

Have you done the same for the BGW plans?

It seems like they were drawn at a 75-scale, even though that's not a typical engineering scale. The only problem is that the PDF of the plans was plotted at 60% since the scale on the plans measures 0.6" rather than 1". So with that in mind, if you were to measure something in the PDF, the scale you would go by would be 1" = 125' (75*1/0.6). Sorry if that is at all confusing.

So, am I right, that if we print the CC plan you drew the track on at 50%, and print the BGW plan at 100%, we should get a good sense of how well CC would fit?

RE: Project 2017

So, I admit I am confused. If you assume that Project 2017 is a sister coaster to Cobra's Curse, that doesn't mean they would have the same ride layout. In fact, I would hope our new coaster would be designed to fit our terrain. I think it makes sense to see if the same style of coaster would fit our space, but I don't understand the value in overlaying CC on the New France location. Maybe I am misunderstanding y'all?

Well, the reason for doing it is, well, the fun of it. Whether practical or not ;-)

If it is a sister coaster, though, it could be a clone with the same layout, but you are right, it wouldn't have to be. But, I think the section of the park in the plan is just flat, with little, if any, significant features. So, I think available space would be the only reason not to use the same layout. They will have to do landscaping around the ride, either way.

Even if they were to change the layout, i'd think the general footprint size would be similar. So, if CC basically fits, but not perfectly, then maybe it is a sister but not clone.

I will be honest - the disappointment is setting in the more I see the possibility of this being a spinning coaster. I know BGW is a family park and thus it needs rides to justify that identity, but I am hoping to be whelmed in the same way I was in 1999 and 2007. We need something that stands out in they ways a truly good coaster does. If this is indeed a spinner, may it be the best iteration of that idea. Otherwise, it's a family ride that fades into the back of the park. I guess I feel a bit letdown because I see parks similar to Busch getting things like Thunderbird or Lightning Rod, and somehow, as of late, we end up with different creations that have that "7.5 out of 10" feel.

Still much to be seen, but I'm not jumping as high for joy here...

Sister coaster doesn't mean clone, nessicarily.  An example would be that Montou and Alpengeist are sister coasters; two coasters of the same type but different layout that appear at the two parks close to each other.

Yes, and alpengeist makes good use of the terrain. And, its footprint is not just over level ground. Alpie also had to fit between Le scoot and LSM, which required an irregular, yet very specific, footprint.

This ride has a more generic shaped area available for its footprint. So, if they wanted to make a sister coaster, and, if CC fits the way it was, no need to pay for a redesign.

RE: Project 2017

Generically shaped area? It has train tracks and a trench...

Did you watch the presentation of the CC model? I really think CC will be 10/10, at least! It's a long ride (3.5 min!), 1/3 facing forward, 1/3 facing backwards, and 1/3 in free spin.

It also has really good theming/story telling

I thought the plans avoided the trench? If not, my mistake.

The tracks go straight through the area. I assumed they would just go over the tracks where it happened to cross the design of the ride, without much concern, or relocate the tracks somewhat, if needed.

I did see that, and I think it does look fun. I don't want to seem like a big Sour Saul here, I just hope that if this is a spinner, it's not simply CC with a New France theme. That's such an easy thing to do, and Busch just did "easy" with Tempesto last year.

If this is an exact clone of Cobra's Curse, I will legally change my name to Nancy.

I seriously doubt this will be an exact clone of Cobra's Curse. Cobra's Curse is built on a flat piece of land (BGT is all flat anyways). This new attraction for BGW is being built on a forested ravine!

you might want to take another look at the plans. those wavy lines indicate grading, one line per foot, and the clearing area is about 30 feet in elevation from highest to lowest point. try finding that at busch gardens tampa haha

Here you go everyone! The definitive Busch Gardens Williamsburg Project 2017 civil site plans article is now live, here. There's a lot of great content in there in my honest opinion. Hopefully you'll find it to be well worth your time. :) Enjoy the post and, if you all don't mind, retweet, like, comment on, and/or share the article on social media or however else you see fit!

RE: Project 2017

Nice work, Zach! I stared at those plans for a while this morning. Glad to have you decipher them. I stared at that tunnel for a while thinking it was for drainage. <Headslap> Never occurred to me that it was for the ridepath! I'll leave this to the pros.

RE: Project 2017

I had the thought of a Intamin Blitz coaster similar to Maverick being constructed in the Drachen Fire lot many many years ago on a different site, and it was clear something like that would NEVER happen at a Busch park, but then Tampa got Cheetah Hunt.

Is this our Cheetah Hunt? Or our Cobra's Curse?

I mean, Verbolten was a thing, and that would make three launch coasters in a row. I would say that's unlikely but it's interesting. I'd put money on Cheetah Hunt having a larger impact on attendance than Bolt.

RE: Project 2017

Coincidentally, Busch Dominion has also published a post regarding the plans recently released by the park. We analyze why we believe they are real(since there has been much doubt about them in the community), and what they might tell us about what is happening in New France next year. Our's is much less in-depth than what Zachary has posted, but we hope you enjoy it anyway.

Uncovering Busch Gardens' Project 2017

I'd also like to make a small note that the predictions we state are solely theories of Joe and myself and in no way are particularly influenced by what BGWFans has just posted.

RE: Project 2017

The queue looks like it could fill up pretty easily depending on park conditions, do you all think it will zig zag inside the auxillary building possibly?

I'm glad you wrote up your own independent evaluation of the documents. The more experienced eyes we can get breaking down what we're looking at the better. There's always a real chance that Nicole or I will miss something really important or worse, incorrectly evaluate something.

Anyway, great job on the article!
