I guess it's a good thing they got a head start on construction with all the winter weather recently. I can only imagine this weather has pushed them back some, unless they had planned for it.

Tempesto was officially acknowledged on SEA's earnings call earlier today.

Here's the quote regarding Tempesto from the earnings call for anyone who gets hit with a pay wall using Newsie's link:

David D’Alessandro said:
Okay, there are a number of new attractions this year. One of our larger ones is in Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. There is a new coaster called Tempesto and it marks the 40th anniversary of the park.

back in my day, they used to place an amorphous blob on the map that would say "new attraction for 19xx"  it was the easiest add buy ever.

Yup, and nowadays it's just as easy (and cheap) to post "Who's excited for our new roller coaster???" on social media.

It's easy and cheap to do that occasionally -- but a full campaign takes a dedicated, full-time social media person. I can say from experience that posting a few "who's excited"s perks up a LITTLE hype, but nowhere near enough.

They built a coaster down the road 325 feet tall with thousands of feet of track in the same time frame as this 800 foot long 'shrubbery'. It will host riders in a few weeks and Tempesto still has 'months'? What the crap!

No one knows officially when Tempesto is going to open. It could be May, it could be March. It depends on what they've decided to do on site between CT and now.

Everything else about this coaster is a cherished secret. I guess 'opening day' for it is no different. I have been forced to NOT be excited about the ride.

I felt like I had to share this. FWIW it's pretty delicious.

We can probably expect an announcement on March 21st. On the Pass Member Preview Day's Facebook page, it says "Be one of the first 750 Members at the San Marco Theatre by 11 a.m. for a special announcement by Park President, Carl Lum, and Vice President of Design & Engineering, Larry Giles." I don't know what else they would be announcing.

I can see it going down now.

Carl: "Thank you for joining us for Pass Member Preview Day 2015, everyone."

*crowd passively claps*

"First, we'd like to share some very exciting news about our newest thrill ride, a launch roller coaster!"

*the crowd's gaze is suddenly fixed on Carl and enthusiasts hold their breath with excitement*

"That's right, we are excited to announce Verbolten's third birthday celebration! Be sure to head over to Oktoberfest this May to purchase your own Verbolten souvenir cup!"

*crowd gets ready to throw their belongings at Carl*

"Wait, wait! There's more!"

*crowd freezes*

"We're also putting a new show into Das Festhaus. Have a good day, everybody!"

*Carl drops the mic and runs to safety*

Just so people know the ethics of, um, certain other fansites, I want to share the following:

The picture very much like the one posted above (Update: Now Removed) was shared on BGWFans's Facebook wall earlier this week. I could have published it and gotten a ton of traffic for having the first picture of Tempesto taken from inside the gates. I didn't do that. What did I do? I immediately hid the picture and messaged the person who shared it warning them that, if the park saw that image, the photographer, or even the company that said photographer worked for, would likely never see a BGW job site again.

I take this stuff very seriously and will not publish anything I believe could endanger someone's livelihood. This picture does just that. I could have gotten a fantastic exclusivewith the same content but I opted to do the right thing. Instead another outlet will reap the rewards and the same outcome will likely come about. At least my hands are clean I suppose.

Leaking stuff from inside a park as ruthless as BGW is incredibly dangerous business. BGWFans has a spotless source safety track record because we put a ton of time and effort into protecting the people who volunteer content. I just wish everyone else would play fair and do the same.

Anyway, that's all I have to say on that matter. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
