RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Kings Dominion is sitting back laughing. "This is what we we will be competing against?"

This is becoming a chess game between BG and KD.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

So, I went looking on RCDB to work out a list of recently opened off the shelf coasters (excluding kiddie coasters) in the United States. Here it is.

Boomerang @ Six Flags St Louis opened in 2013.
Stinger @ Dorney Park opened in 2012.
Steeplechase @ Scream Zone opened in 2011.
Soarin' Eagle @ Scream Zone opened in 2011.
Carolina Cobra @ Carowinds opened in 2009.
Pandemonium @ Six Flags Over Texas opened in 2008.
Thunderhawk @ Michigan's Adventure opened in 2008.

First off, just the list of parks that they were built at should terrify you. Notice any top tier amusement parks in there? Not really. How about a single theme park? Nope. Exactly.

But, there's something else. All of those attractions have something in common: No one cared about them. Why? Because they're not unique. They're not interesting. You can already go on YouTube and watch a POV of the same attraction in a different setting from years ago. Suddenly, the novelty wears off before the park building it can ever truly capitalize on it.

Oh, I used a word I should hit a little harder on as well: Novelty. This is a gimmick coaster in the truest sense of the word. It serves no other purpose than to achieve its gimmick at the lowest price and size possible. If you think that's in line with Busch Gardens' prior reputation and history, you're sorely mistaken.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

One thing I noticed from that list is none of those are even close to our region. So there is the idea that the coaster is unique to the area. I know thats not really a great argument but it could draw some people in that way. No where near enough to make it worth it but its something.

I just can't understand why they chose the location they did. I went to the park today and could think of at least 3 locations that could have been somewhat better.

Then again with it being smack on the edge of the park, we can at least be thankful it won't disturb the overall charm the park still has. Point being I'd rather only have to see it in one section than be able to see it from across the park.

My guess is they chose that location for a few reasons. First with that location you can see it driving by the park and from the parking lots which could generate some buzz. Second is the location requires minimal site work and demolition. And third, with it being in that area, it shouldn't have to be some blue color to blend with the sky like you see with the rides in the back section of the park and can have the chance at having a good theme with no limitations.

It's a bad situation indeed but I hope this helps people see a plausible decision process for a few of the questions I've been reading in this thread.

James, I made mention of the clone issue, and I gave the same argument. It can still have a draw to people in this region who have never gone to or can't go to another park much farther away. I think that can be a good argument.

Also, I added a few possible reasons about location, what do you think about those?

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

A note about Zachary's list. Carolina Cobra wasn't even a new build. It was moved from Geauga Lake where it was Head Spin. That "coaster" makes me hurt and sick quicker than anything I've ever ridden. What a true piece of junk. Plus, they took down a unique water ride that was pleasant to put this ride in. Waiting 30 plus minutes for this 2 min horror? Never again.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think Premier is capable of making a larger capacity train for this. Browsing some photos and various comparisons, it may be possible to have trains akin to Full Throttle at SF, which is still a lowly 18 riders but ANYTHING is better than 12. Watching the POV footage, the station length (appears) to be able to accommodate a third car, though I realize there is far more to a ride like this than station length. I just can't help but think that there was some kind of engineering discussion that yielded a concern over 12 riders  per cycle being feasible. I know many of you will say the discussion should have stopped this project at the start, but it is what it is and we have to see how they make it better than what's already existing.

I visualize a heavily themed version of this with some decent lighting or audio effects being not a half-bad attraction compared to its Superman-themed corporate siblings.

It's interesting to note that all of BG's coaster additions after AC get smaller and smaller and more "trick pony." That doesn't mean they haven't been without merits, but I feel one of the reasons why rides like AC & Griffon rose attendance was because they stand out (literally) against the landscape. Verbolten is a terrain coaster with little to no visibility until you're right up on it. Call me crazy but the public likes to see rides standing tall and operating as they drive up. I can't tell you how many times I drive by KD and people turn their heads to see I305 and Windseeker peaking above the trees. Busch made this Premier move for the sake of wow factor from afar, no matter how silly it seems crammed up against AC.

People like eye candy, someone in corporate management ran with that reality, and this is what we have. Honestly, I feel the general public is going to love this because it's going to touted as "a thrilling, multi-launch, zero-G inverted experience in the heart of Old-Italia." Joe Q. Public will sign up for that in droves, even if we lovers of the ghosts of BG past may not.

This is just SAD. This goes against EVERYTHING the park used to strive for.

For everybody who thinks the capacity is bad, this thing holds less people than every flat ride in the park.
Holds less people? Or circulates less people per hour?

Threw this together while wondering what the rumored colors could possibly look like.

Doesn't this ride have a launch from like 0-62? Or did I just dream that?

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

It launches three separate times up to 62 mph. The first launch goes up to about 40, second to about 50, and the third at top speed to complete the circuit.
