RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm that upset at this. They aren't trying to play up the Marco Polo theme because it is no longer a Marco Polo themed hamlet, it's a carnival themed hamlet. They are changing the theme without changing the name and honestly, I think this makes more sense. Most parks have a carnival section (including Disney parks) and they are very popular. Festa was already caught in a half way carnival like theme, now they are just fully accepting it and playing it up.

As far as the new ride, I think BGW will market the "new" carnival coming to Busch gardens, and by the way here's the new ride. I'm thinking of this ride as a glorified wild mouse coaster. It's not supposed to be unique, it's supposed to be a gimmicky fair ride, and in my opinion that's okay. In my opinion rather than destroying festas theme they are GIVING it a theme. They didn't have modern dirt bikes or formula one cars but rather older models.

Also, what is with all of the outrage over apollos chariot being involved in the carnival concept? There's no theming, there's no story to the ride. In fact, the name itself would be perfectly at home on a fair ride. It's even painted bright fair colors.

Overall, I'm fine with the new ride and re-theme. It's different, yes. The theme may not be as elaborate and have as much historical concept, yes. But it's a concept that the park will be able to pull off, and pull off well and it's a theme that everyone will understand rather than crossing a bridge into the gaudy mess that festa currently is. At the same time the park can push new carnival games and increase in-park revenue. I think it's a great move all around.

*cue outrage*

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Isn't Oktoberfest already a carnival-themed area, though?

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Not really. The only thing that screams carnival in that area is Die Autobauhn or Die Wirbelwind, and the games, but the rest of the rides aren't very carnival like.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Oktoberfest is a giant carnival and Festa is too. Festa's original theme was a carnival held in the celebration of Marco Polo's travels.

I'm still waiting to see the ride concept. From what i've seen so far I'm pretty indifferent with the theme. It could work well for the park or become a serious bust. I do have a little faith in the park's sign department and I'm sure they'll pull off some great theming.

I'll post the rest of my judgements later when I have more time

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

I don't love this theme -- I think it's kind of tacky, as far as I can tell for now -- but I do think it's not a total mismatch for Festa, which has always had a sort of anachronistic carnival feeling. But poor Apollo deserves to be treated better than this. That ride needs theming in a proper Greek/Roman part of the park. I sort of wish they'd reroute the paths so that Apollo was part of San Marco/Pompeii, while Festa became, well, everything else in that area.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Alright I've got more time to sit and think the rest of this out. Here goes.

In regards to capacity, BGW is far from the first major park to add a low capacity ride. While it's not the brightest idea ever, its definitely nothing new. Hypersonic/Volcano, Roller Soaker, Green Lantern First Flight, Firehawk, Stunt Coaster, etc are all low capacity and parks still manage around them. If the lines are still long, just book it to the coaster after rope drop and you won't be standing forever in line for it or visit on a slow day.

We still don't have a ride layout yet until Zach leaks it to us. For all we know it could still be a custom ride. I've heard through the grapevine that this is gonna be another record breaker/gimmick-pulling ride for the park, so at this point I'll be holding my breath for that. Superman/Sky Scream still look like solid rides so this will be a solid fit for the park - clone or not.

And quit acting like this is the first time any of the Busch parks have ever built a clone. Scorpion, Great White, Journey to Atlantis Texas were all clones. Not to mention the three Sea World parks love sharing rides and concepts with each other for new attractions.

The photo op thing isn't too hard to manage around either. All you have to do is raise the board on a wall or something and stick a stool underneath the top one.

- Still have no idea where this whole Apollo "theme" comes into play. The ride isn't really themed to anything. It's just two tents with a tent in the middle of the ride. As much as I love it and it is my fave coaster in the park, there really isn't any theme to be had on it outside of the name and the shield on the zero car. Hell at this rate, the new coaster will have more theming than Apollo.

If you think Griffon has its own hamlet then AC just about does too.

99.99% sure it's a clone. I'm sure it'll break the record of lowest capacity coaster ever at the park. I guess it has that going for it.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

I appreciate the thoughts netdvn but I feel like a few of your points are invalid.

This ride has a capacity roughly half that of Volcano. Volcano's lines are already nightmarish... I would hate to double that wait. That's terrifying.

Also, who wants to go to this ride first thing in the morning? Also, after opening season I doubt most people will head straight to this coaster anyway.

We haven't seen the actual layout but we have seen site plans and know the ride's dimensions. If it's not a clone of Superman, it will be close.

I don't think people just oppose the idea of clones in general. It's the fact that it's a crappy clone that already exists and it's there for people to know it's crappy.

The photo op thing isn't too hard to manage around either. All you have to do is raise the board on a wall or something and stick a stool underneath the top one.

That's not the issue. Take a close look at the bottom biker. He's upside down, so when people put their heads in it will look like their head is upside down on the body. Somebody wasn't thinking critically here.

I don't really get the whole Apollo issue either. Still, "having more theming than Apollo" should never be the goal for a BGW coaster.

I just think it's hard to believe this will be in the same lineup of Alpengeist, Loch Ness Monster, and the other world class coasters of the park. They've never gotten a permanent coaster just for the heck of it before.

So they're intentionally putting in ill-themed, unoriginal attractions, as some sort of ironic gesture? Aha! BGW is striving to become the world's first post-modern theme park! That explains everything that's happened in the last 5 years!

So apparently, I'm threatening to burn my pass for BGW due to this thing. But I'm not convinced that will do anything, because it's the hard plastic version, and I'm on EZ-pay, so I'll still be paying for it.

If I could somehow thank you more for this, I would.

The highest attended regional park in North America added a major coaster with an hourly capacity of 650 pph this year. Higher quality or not, that's pretty miserable line-wise. Let's not forget they have two other major low capacity rides as well (Time Warp and Stunt Coaster). If they can manage, then BGW can too.

Also, who wants to go to this ride first thing in the morning? Also, after opening season I doubt most people will head straight to this coaster anyway.

That means the ride won't have any lines so you can ride it all you want.

Doesn't matter. For all we know, the park could be hiding some random gimmick up their sleeve. Once the ride is announced, we'll know for sure. At this point, I'd say its still too early to judge.

I don't think people just oppose the idea of clones in general. It's the fact that it's a crappy clone that already exists and it's there for people to know it's crappy.

Last I checked, nobody really called Superman crappy. The ride itself actually got solid reviews.

Not like anyone's gonna really notice anyway. These are the same people who still ask how to get to Verbolten at Verbolten's entrance. Also for all we know, it could be a vertical cutout like that Marmaduke photo op at Universal. Have the higher one on a step stool and the lower one on the ground. All you'd need to do to get the photo is cock your head 90 degrees.

I just think it's hard to believe this will be in the same lineup of Alpengeist, Loch Ness Monster, and the other world class coasters of the park. They've never gotten a permanent coaster just for the heck of it before.

I kinda felt Griffon was that "just because Tampa got it, we should totally just clear the trees for a gimmicky ride" coaster. Its short, kinda weak, and the theming is meh at best as much as I like the farmhouse station. It has that plopped down feeling that I don't get with the other park's coasters. Plus they removed an entire patch of trees and Le Mans for it.

- I love playing resident devil's advocate hipster.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

Does Premier have any Moto-Coaster trains? I know they made Motorcycle themed trains but I wonder if they could put Moto-Coaster trains on that. It would be possibly the best clone ever. Only problem is it goes upside down. Heck maybe we could get those four across premier trains.

RE: Project 2015: Premier Rides Coaster for Festa Italia

The four across trains were a custom contract job for SFNE since Vekoma didn't want to fix their trains for them. The motorbike seats on the Japanese Mr. Freeze are good but the thing does not have hang time while upside down like the sky roll does on the S:UF model, considering you have positive Gs in the top hat like you're supposed to (even though it isn't near as tight as the original three top hats).
