RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I'm not sure why they decided to get a drop tower. I mean they go up and down, sometimes several times. But I just don't it's really Busch's thing. Unless they can theme the heck out of it, I'm not really looking forward to it.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I hoping for themeing the HECK out of it. I like the concept of a castle down the face of the hill that the riders are blasted out of a spire... I would rather not see and know what is going on like Tower of Terror... that ride was extremely fun. The best part was the doors peeking open to reveal only glimpses of how high you were. Still... some things to consider...

Rumor: The Katipult will be moving? I like to quietly sit and listen to employees and such.. :dodgy: like a Ninja. Therefore... where could it be moving to??? Back to its original home? Let us pray that Elmo goes the way of the dinosaur. 2nd- this leaves that area open for this drop/blast ride. That whole area where the old Octoberfest bridge was is rumored to be used for this purpose.. having the Katipult moved would be ample spacing.

Lastly, forgive me if this has already been posted, but I was a twitter when i saw it last week! THE UNDERWATER FOOTERS OF THE BBW HAVE BEEN RECAPPED AND PAINTED!!! I kid you not!! OOOOoooOOOO strange things are afoot over there in the sacred zone of BBWdom.

Why on earth would BGW go out to repaint the footers... I am sooooo interested in this development. What could it mean.. what could it mean. Do you know what I think it means? That this year we are going to see a giant wall across the Italy bridge and around the old BBW site soon. I bet top dollar there will be an announcement in the near future. Oh yes. Coaster-coaster baby is what it means. (But be warned BGW- I am watching and waiting to see what you do... this is sacred ground for me.. you better prove that you did not tear down my all time favorite ride for naught! I love you all dearly - but I swear I have no qualms about shunning anyone who dares messes with the BBW memory! PS- having it wolf themed would be nice- hint hint - with red tracks.....and black cars... and a village..a drop over the Rhine would be nice too.)

Moving on.. The landscaping on the hill at the BBW is looking VERY rough. The grass is dieing, weeds are taking over.. and the little pine trees are turning brown which proves my theory that those babies are still in their pots and not permanently planted.. as a tree of any kind in a pot needs to be watered constantly in this heat and sun!

Exciting times. BGW has a lot on their plate this year it seems.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

"Ninja Nora" Yes, that shall be your new nickname. :D

Wait... repainted and recapped? Oooh, now THAT is good news. What color? have they done any work on the footings near the bridge? This is fantastic news. Can't wait to get back up there and see what's going on.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I agree with what was said in a podcast. Having it partially enclossed and then shoot out into the air would be my personal choice. But it is not my choice it is Busch's, thankfully they have not dissapointed me yet.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

kcracken they used a tanish-brown color. Freshly capped and painted. They look almost new. If anyone heads out to the park this week, please snap a few photos of the underwater, lake footers at the BBW- would be neat to see them in a closer inspection.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I don't know if its feesible, but I would like to see S&S design a tower that first shoots you up, then holds for about 5-7 seconds then free fall back down....a best of both incorporated to somewhat advance the tower experience.

Maybe it exists, but if Busch is getting a drop tower, then I only hope its not a generic one.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I do know for sure it is not a plain drop tower. However, I know nothing of the name, the themeing, or anything else other than where it is going to be located. (Where the Katipult is located perhaps).

One thing I learned about Busch Gardens Williamsburg is how amazing their park planner is by both the location and placements of the big rides. After going to Tampa and flying down the first hill of Monetu, the view of a Subway and Pizza Hut was not one of the parks best views - why on Earth did they not face the ride's first hill towards the park? Duh!

The Griffon was placed to fall at the setting sun... which is fantabulous and the view of the James River is beautiful... heck, even seeing the brewery is pretty cool in a way. Sheikra (the Tampa parks sister Griffon coaster) all but blinded me going up the hill.. Oi! At least Sheikra was a great ride though... really nice. Look at all the other BGW coaster hills.. all faced a rather nice view. Left side parking lot aside on Apollo - the right side gets a great view of the park and the James River.

BTW- speaking of parking lots, Tampa's parking lots look like the aftermath of an atomic bomb.. hideous I tell ya! So very sad.

Also, keep in mind that the most iconic spot in the park with the Loch Ness Loops... the Alpengeist and the Griffon are beautifully set to enhance this photo op shot... with all the loops converging in an obvious pattern. Kudos to whoever did that. AAAND... BGW is KNOWN for their rides going with the terrain and not altering the terrain to fit the ride. Look at Alpengeist. If someone came to me and said here is the land I want you to design a coaster for... I would laugh and say "yeah right"... hilly, wooded, near feet away from an old Arrow Log Flume. But this was important for BGW to have a ride that is organic to the landscape - to enhance the beauty. (OK, not all of the additions have done this, but I would say at least the fair majority has.)

Therefore, my best guess for the drop ride, in addition to what Chris says... uses the terrain to their advantage. That the deep slope going down to the Rhine near the boat ride will be used in some way so that when you are approaching Germany from the Italy bridge you see something that just grows out of the landscape but not just juts out like a complete eyesore.

It is my best guess... but also a great hope that the beauty of the park is upheld and not destroyed.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I had never thought about how they placed the coaster hills till you pointed it out, but you are right. There are some pretty great views from the tops of the hills at BGW.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

On Busch's Wiki page, it describes the new permit for a "tower coaster".
Now, that might just be misinformation. Instead of a tower drop ride, maybe Busch is getting a tower/coaster hybrid that are starting to come into fashion. hmmmmmmmm.........

It's going to be a drop tower. I've corrected it, it was nothing more than Wiki vandalism. Don't read too much into it.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

You know Chris... it is a shame about the BGWiki page. I've been going through all my stuff - documenting and scanning in some things in prep for the one day I could sit down and fill in missing info about the park. Why there are some people who are set out to ruin it for everyone is beyond me. :s

Some people are just jerks I guess. I'm thinking about recreating the wiki and making it closed, so that only authorized people can make changes. Kind of defeats the purpose of the wiki a little, but it would be a way to stop people from destroying it again.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Learned a few things about the tower. First, here's a screen grab of where it will be located:

Chris said:
Zooming in on it, it appears its going on the BBW side of the path. Perhaps Katapult will be staying after all. (You can barely see the bridge in the picture if you zoom in on it.)

That's very interesting to see the location of the ride. I'd love to know the overall plan for the area since a drop tower will only encompass a small amount of land (obviously depending on theming, ride buildings, photo buildings, etc...).

Intamin? Is B&M getting into drop towers anytime soon? haha!

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Chris, if what you are saying is true and that BGW is going to put any kind of Blast/Drop tower - heck even a blast/drop tower coaster in the BBW spot... I am really not happy. Not happy at all.

This does not bode well for me as I got a big drop of disappointment right down to my stomach when you mentioned this news. I still say regardless- it ain't over till the fat lady sings and the ground is being broke for a new ride and the maps have a coming soon "right here" printed on the park maps. I shall continue to hope that BGW would not scar my soul any further.

Well, kind of bummed out now- but here are some photos I snapped today of the repainted footers by the water. There is a before and two after photos.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

You see, this is what happens when I leave for a day. I come back to find that Busch is putting a drop tower on the grave of the Big Bad Wolf. To make things even worse, it is right after I made the concept video. Just my luck.

When I first saw the overhead shot, I thought nothing of it, but then took a closer look and it definitely looks like it's going to be on the BBW side of the path. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case, but perhaps they can integrate the station into the queue of the new ride somehow. I mean, they kept the station there for a reason. A haunt this season probably, but they wouldn't leave a building that size in the middle of the park to just use once a year.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I think they should bring in a coaster that seats more (so the line moves faster), keep the same theme as the BBW, but upscale it with some Drachen Fire flare and call it "Wolfs Revenge"
