RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

What do you guys think of one of these as a replacement:
http://www.vekoma.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=10
or:
http://www.vekoma.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=11

I know they're Vekoma, but it looks like a sound principle. Now this is just me playing roller coaster buyer, but this looks like trains are Ingenious. Like those on Griffon(or Apollo for the first one) just set to be free swinging like and Arrow suspended. If it is true that they were forced to take the Wolf down due to Manufacturer Liability(esp. with s&s running the show) then this would be a great compromise. They family friendly aspect, but kicked up a notch.
Ideas?

I really like the idea, I just wish I could buy into a Vekoma product, but I can't. If this was made by a different manufacturer, then I'd be all about it. It would be a great replacement since it would be family friendly.

But, I feel like Vekoma has only outlasted Arrow due to being a cheaper option for parks that are looking to add a coaster and I'd prefer a high quality attraction that will be smooth longer than 3 years

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Vekoma coasters being smooth for 3 years?!? Wow! What an improvement!

In all seriousness, I'd love a B&M, Premier would be fine with me, Intamin AG would be bad, but not terrible. Vekoma on the other hand, forget about it.

Just wondering here, am I the only one who likes Premier more than Intamin? I've only been on one Premier, Mr. Freeze @ Six Flags St. Louis, but I thought that it was smooth and fun. I hear that they have downtime issues, but they seem to be better than Intamins. The thing that really set Mr. Freeze apart in my opinion is that it had 4 inversions and they still put a lapbar on it (it was the most comfortable lapbar I've ever felt- yes, better than Apollo's). For those of you who don't know: List of Premier's rides

I've been on Mummy in USF which is a Premier, it was fun, but I think it was fun mostly because it was a coaster with dark ride elements. That would actually be a cool attraction to have in the park, but I would want it to be a secondary attraction, not the big replacement project.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I'm still waiting to find the make of the coaster that is found in the plans that people uncovered for BGT. Whatever it is, it doesn't look like a B&M, but it sure is huge.

For those who don't know: http://www.bgtguide.com/bgt/project2011/bgt2011layout

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

It's definitely an Intamin. That's all but confirmed.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Ok then. This is one that I hope BGW doesn't follow suit with.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

What do you guys think about the area in the lower part of the pic? the part that looks like a square. It barely looks like something that might be on a coaster. very rct3 like actually.

Perhaps it's some type of animal attraction at the end of the ride.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I dont know what to make of it. doesnt look coaster-like, and it doesnt make sense to add another safari thing. but then there's the spiral thing. all very strange.

Here's some big news:

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I just don't know what to say. This was my worst nightmare. Why Busch Gardens? Why?

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I'm willing to give them the chance to make it a great attraction. I'm actually kind of excited about it. When I think of it, I imagine something similar to Tatsu, where a flyer could wrap around a tower. Perhaps it could be the centerpiece of a new country.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I'm sure they will make it a great attraction. I just don't like drop towers. I bet it will be themed brilliantly and work well into HOS. But as far as I (and Swiftman) am concerned, this was a bad idea.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Read the article here: http://www.vagazette.com/articles/2010/04/28/news/doc4bd75f562b464848579794.txt It says "it will not replace the Wolf but will be next to the swings--- meaning where the katipult is more than likely. :dodgy:

And another: http://www.vagazette.com/articles/2010/04/28/news/doc4bd78c0de3232420231208.txt

And another from The Gazette about the future of the Brewery! http://www.vagazette.com/articles/2010/04/28/news/doc4bd5f2efcae44403097532.txt

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

whats next a big beer bottle near the front of the park that you can go up and look around on.. i.e eiffel tower at kings dominion. they better have more than this planned. BIG LET DOWN

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Chris,

What I have been trying to think of all day is what on Earth could they call it with a German Reference. Die Falken (The Falcon would cover the high velocity plunge to the ground - of which Falcons are famous for)... however, may I also mention that Die Falken is also a young socialist group in Germany. Most German names have some sort of political statement when you think about it.

I do not know what else it could be called. I am at a loss.

It depends on the ride dynamics (will it launch from the bottom, or be dropped from the top) and whether or not story elements can be effectively implemented (visuals inside an enclosure around the tower for example).

If it launches, then perhaps you can theme it to a cave or mine. There's a German myth about sprites/goblins that haunt caves or mines. It could be named "Flucht der Kobold", Escape the Goblin (roughly). I think it could be a pretty cool story if you had to escape from a cave by being launched out. Wikipedia Page about Kobolds.

I'll have to keep thinking about a name for a drop. As a side note though, I saw on another forum that someone suggested it be put on top of the Festhaus and named The Hangover.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

The Hangover is hilarious. :D They could have another Hangover ride next to Grogan's Pub as well.

Another thought to consider is that behind the Festhaus everything looks pretty grubby as it is the staff area, employee parking lots, storehouses, and offices. If there is a large tower that is up over 200 feet you would need it to face away from that area, otherwise those folks get the short end of the stick visually. If the new attraction is a hybrid dark ride and will end with either a drop or blast tower; you have to consider that it would take a very large space of land. I have never been a fan of big building rides as they are boxy - and ugly (on one side at least). The back side of Darkastle and Europe in the Air should always remain unseen. Oh, and when the leaves are off the trees and you can see the back of Pompeii... ugly-ugly.

The article I read states that it will not be where the BBW site is, but beside the swings. I've thought about this. Perhaps this means where the Katipult is combined with the area where the old Oktoberfest Bridge was for a possible location of this ride.

If it is strictly a drop/blast tower, the land used would be minimal; not to mention faster to build. If for example, if this ride opened in 2011(ish) and later this year another replacement ride announcement for the BBW site for 2012-2013 ~ it becomes more of a two phase project. Something I thought always makes fiscal sense.

I dunno... just hoping that this darn tower doesn't even scratch the surface of the BBW site. Anything that goes there should be a coaster - and a darn good one too... (and reminiscent of the Wolf!) Harrumph!

Not a big fan of drop towers (if you can't tell).

Ok, Ok...I know this post is coming off a bit argumentative ( it does deal with that very touchy subject of the area near the Big Bad Wolf site and I cannot help myself). I apologize.

BGW may surprise me with something amazing and not at all the image of what I have in my head at this moment. I hope that whatever is planned is great, looks great, and is themed great. So come on BGW- surprise me.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I would love a tower if it was similar to the tower of terror at DHS. Please don't let it be just a lame tower though. still 260 feet!
