So....your saying I305 is pretty good??:-/

Wait, what? One of us must be missing something...

Intamin has just as many great coasters as any other company. And BG is not so great that they don't tinker with their rides. Or just plain get rid of them if they are too rough.

The I305 you describe no longer exists. CF for all it's faults (and there are many) did a good job in making Intamin live up to their promises while still keeping the ride open for the full season. (And opening it up on Day one of the season as well) Intamin promised the cloth retraints, but did not deliver at first. CF pitched a fit until they gave them what they had promised. Intamin DOES quite often make promises they have trouble living up to. But thay ALSO make some of the best thrill rides in the world. So yes I agree, a lot of the time something is wrong with Intamin. But a lot of the time something is VERY right with them too.

Cheeta hunt looks good to me so far. Would it be so bad to have one of those at BGW? Or a Bizarro? Or a Millenium Force? Or Storm Runner?

People keep telling me this, but I'm going to continue to dislike i305 until I go back up to King's Dominion and experience something different. The ride left a bad taste in my mouth the first time I rode it as I'm sure it did for many others- especially the general public. I continue to believe that Cedar Fair did the best they could with the situation. I don't fault them at all in what happened with i305- I place the full blame on Intamin for again failing to deliver what they promised. The same happened with Shoot the Rapids. The boats were too long to make it around the turns. How do you mess something like that up?

Sure they make some good coasters, but they have a terrible track record of failures as well.

So what makes Zierer a so much safer choice than Intamin? They have never made big mistakes like Intamin. I'll grant you that. But a lot of their stuff seems unremarkable too. My best case scenario is that since this is probably their highest profile, large scale ride, they really turn out something impressive. But I have nothing to base that hope on except a belief that BGW will be on top of them enough to not let them screw it up.

That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out! They picked a company who barely anyone had ever heard of before to build their drop tower (normally an Intamin or S&S specialty) and now they've picked another company barely anyone has ever heard of to build their next big coaster which happens to have a special future that only Intamin has experience with.

For some reason, the park is steering clear of Intamin.

Hopefully it will mean that this project will get most of Zierer's attention. Unlike Intamin, which always seems to have 10 projects going up at once.

We can hope anyway.

It's because the chief engineer for the park has a strained relationship with the manufacturer.

Does anyone else hear that echo?

Intamin failed to deliver properly on a largely standard shoot the chutes water ride. Intamin failed to deliver quality products many other times. They push the limits, but they also push a lot of buttons that aren't meant to be pushed.

Zierer is not remarkable, but not everyone is like B&M, where they popped-out AAA budget coasters as a rookie developer/manufacturer.

Im new here...but let me put in my two cents.
Intamin is not a capacity killer, go ride maverick at CP...

But remember, Maverick has 6 trains running at once (1 on the first half, 1 waiting to be launched, 1 on the 2nd half, 1 on the brakes, and 2 in the station) and the first time I rode it, it still took 1 1/2 hours to wait in line, ON A THURSDAY MORNING IN THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST.

Found this website. Thought it was interesting. Mentions 3 different track layouts available for Zierer coasters:

http://www.fab.lu/index.php?id=93&L=2

The site also shows dark rides. Apparently Project 2012 will utilize a little of several of Zierer's expertise.

So assuming the new coaster will be one of Zierer's "ESC-780" models (which if what Ive read is correct, will be its first), Ive done a little math. 780 meters is 2,559 feet. Just as a comparison, Big Bad Wolf was 2,800 feet in length...

Okay, this is a little off topic and going back a few posts, but Intimidator 305 is one of the best rides I've ever ridden. According to my CoasterCounter it's my favorite ride next to El Toro. Intamin does a great job with the coasters they build and honestly I'm glad to see them push the limits the way that they do. For every coaster that has a fault there's another simply amazing coaster. Let's not hate on Intamin. They have a ton of coasters winning Golden Tickets and Maverick is simply awesome.

Sigh...

In other news, I dont think that companies doing something for the first time is necessarily a bad thing. We'll have to see though...

I've heard from a little birddie that BGW is set to start promoting this with some type of teaser package throughout the summer starting in mid June cant wait :)

I'm getting a lot of Mach Tower ads in the DC area so i wouldn't doubt them advertising soon.

Custom trains... I don't exactly know how that'll turn out, but I do agree that the headrests are atrocious. I wonder if VW or BMW or even some other German manufacturer picks up sponsorship on this ride, lol.

HAHA, I'm with you. Two of the most expensive regular consumer car producers to repair, maintain, and have crappy reliability.

Haha. Maybe they'll just move Grover to Oktoberfest and call it new! (completely unrelated to the conversation):p

BTW, speaking of I305, something just dawned on me. Maybe BGW decided to do a car/autobahn-themed ride to match I305's well-known racecar/Dale Earnhardt theme! (just a hunch)

^I don't think BGW would do a car theme becaause of KD. I am sure that BGW has been planning this ride before anyone even knew what the "theme" of I305 would be.

Plus in the video posted a couple pages back of the interview with John Riley, he refuses to even say KD's name. I don't think they publicly compare themselves to KD, maybe they do, but I highly doubt it. They're on a completely different level than KD.
