This is a bit off topic, but I'll throw it out here anyway:

Intamin builds almost all of the drop towers out there. Busch went with Moser.
Intamin is the only one who has ever built a dropping track section. Busch picked Zierer.

I looks like someone at the park really has a problem with Intamin. That's a good thing in my book.

Larry Giles, longtime Chief Engineer at the park (2 decades+?) dealt with fallout from the debacle surrounding Intamin-built Pompeii. It's bad enough that he stated back after the construction of Griffon that the park (not the company) will not work with Intamin in the future (which I assume to be the remainder of his tenure at the park).

While I wasn't picking Zierer (who was?) to manufacturer the coaster, I was leaning more towards Mack Rides and Premier Rides.

I don't recall, but if you notice all the rides, Pompeii is the only Intamin in the park. From people that I've talked to I've heard "They swore to never work with Intamin again." PayneTrain also has a point in Larry Gile's dislike of Intamin, I've met him but we never got into the subject of Intamin. Partially due to the meeting being before the InBev buyout. I also wasn't much of an enthusiast at the time and didn't really care about who was building the latest and greatest.

Supposedly, Pompeii had major problems as far as the reach of the splash when it first began testing. So much so that it reached the train tracks. It also, still to this day, has quite a bit of downtime.

Roman Rapids and Battering Ram are Intamin. There may be a couple others as well but those are the other two (with Pompeii) that I can think of at the moment.

Yes, this was the case. When Pompeii opened and the splash was reaching the train tracks. It took a long time to modify and adjust the ride. And from what I've heard the park even threatened legal action against Intamin.

Where are you hearing that? Seems unlikely.

I've heard the same as JordanFord.

Swiftman,

Is this your video where BGW's John Reilly confirms that the 2012 coaster will open in March 2012 at the 2:37 mark?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVsoCeFf_s4

Anywho, I can see this happening as they were able to open Apollo's Chariot in March of 1999. Construction barriers for AC first went up in June of 1998. The station went up in late July and they began vertical construction of the coaster in late August before they publicly announced it.

As of right now the company that erects all the rides at BGW have yet to be assigned the 2012 coaster as they are finishing up Mach Tower.

I really like intamin. Yeah they have their problems when the ride first opens, but thats only because the ride is a new idea. Intimidator 305 had its problems with the wheels, but the ride is all better now and placed as the 3rd best coaster in the world this year.

i305's problems didn't end with its wheels.

When people black out on a coaster, something is going wrong. When a signature element of a coaster has to be re-profiled after one year in operation, something is going wrong. When a coaster's first drop has to be trimmed into oblivion, something is going wrong. When the restraints on a ride have to be changed due to guest discomfort, something is going wrong. When I get off a coaster with thick red lines across my neck where the ride has thrown my neck into the restraints, something is going wrong.

Pompeii's not a horrible ride, but it's the only ride at bgw I would consider that is always breaking down.
Well put. At least it's not Avalanch at KD.

BTW, don't worry about the Concept Art. Look closely at the announcement video for Mach Tower.

::MOD EDIT::

Does this look ANYTHING like the REAL MT? No.

Again, don't worry about the concept art.;)

(I admit, this pic is actually from a Slingshot tower at the Adventuredome. But a similar pic is in the MT video.)

P.S. If it's a violation to post this copyrighted pic, Moderators, please remove it!

I think that the reason why Giles won't pick Intamin is because most of their coasters are capacity killers. I was at KD today and the only Intamin coaster that did not have bad lines was i305 (it did help that it was overcast). But Volcano only has 2 trains of 16 people each and it took 30 minutes from the time to go into the mountain to get to the station!

but you still want to get back in line for I305, don't you now?

I have to wait in a line? Forget it. There are very few rides at King's Dominion that I'd actually wait in line for. Do I plan to ride i305 again? Yes, I'm going to give it another chance, but my argument still stands: It had/has a ton of problems. I don't see how anyone can argue differently.

Im new here...but let me put in my two cents.
Intamin is not a capacity killer, go ride maverick at CP...thats one of the fastest loading coasters I have ever ridden, Volcano is an exception because it was a prototype coaster and thus the reason no more of them have been built. Volcano's problem lies in the design was flawed to the point where they had to gut half the seats on the original trains to lessen the weight and greaten the flexibility of the train. Larry Giles has little say as to what company gets chosen to design the coaster, thats a company decision, he might have his preferences but its ultimately company line.
As for the construction of the new coaster I could see that beginning to happen about mid june.

So....your saying I305 is pretty good??:-/

Intamin has just as many great coasters as any other company. And BG is not so great that they don't tinker with their rides. Or just plain get rid of them if they are too rough.

The I305 you describe no longer exists. CF for all it's faults (and there are many) did a good job in making Intamin live up to their promises while still keeping the ride open for the full season. (And opening it up on Day one of the season as well) Intamin promised the cloth retraints, but did not deliver at first. CF pitched a fit until they gave them what they had promised. Intamin DOES quite often make promises they have trouble living up to. But thay ALSO make some of the best thrill rides in the world. So yes I agree, a lot of the time something is wrong with Intamin. But a lot of the time something is VERY right with them too.

Cheeta hunt looks good to me so far. Would it be so bad to have one of those at BGW? Or a Bizarro? Or a Millenium Force? Or Storm Runner?
