Well Colonial Williamsburg isnt the only attraction there, and they need to allow busch to compete with their competition too. For all we know the balloon testing for the fireworks show could have been them toying with the idea of a 300ft coaster. I'm almost positive if they play their sight lines right(and use that ever so convenient Ravine) they can pull it off . But like I said even I am doubtful of the project, but I wont say there arent any good reasons to build it.

As for Mach Tower there could be several other reasons why It's not over 300 ft. But if the reason it isnt 300 feet has anything to do with the height, like I said if the coaster drops over the Rhine there might be a possibility that the structure to land height difference might make the drop over 300ft.

What's more marketable to the general public? A 95ft coaster, or a 300+ ft coaster (ESPECIALLY when the park down the road has one).
9.9 out of ten teens i have asked said they perfer KD overbusch because of there number of coasters and well...they have lots of gimmics. It's possible that it is Busch's best interest to go the extra mile and build a 300fter

The average attendee cares about quantity over quality, they don't understand the class, elegance, and brilliance that coaster enthusiasts too

Those balloons are no where near 300ft in the air. When you're riding Griffon during the summer you are higher than those balloons. The balloons are only there so park guests know where to see the fireworks.

Well in any entertainment business there is something called a target audience. Its a certain group of people that the park goes out to try and come to the park. KD's target audience is teens and the younger demographic. Thats why the build gimmicky rides, roller coasters, and have a scary halloween event. For BGW that target audience is families. Its always been that. Its why we always complain about HOS not being scary enough. Its why we hate Europe in the Air. Because all those things are made for the group that makes them the most money. So with that in mind why would BGW do something so out of character and build a 300ft coaster? Its just not good for the park and would stick out in a bad way. Families are the ones that care about quality over quantity.

I'll say what I keep saying, besides word of mouth, where is there any evidence we are getting a 300ft coaster? Every permit out there says this ride is no taller than 95ft. Yet just about everyone has gone off the deep end with this rumor that began at an orientation. Explain this: If BGW has yet to put permits in for a 300ft coaster why would they tell their brand new staff of the plans? The park knows that info would get out and then competition finds out.

The permit never mentions a ride, just to be clear. And who says that a 300ft tall coaster has to be gimmicky?

Colonial Williamsburg is a historic landmark. As well as a huge tourist attraction. As much as Busch has, they can make great rides that are out of the line of sight of the colony.

Why would that ruin your family friendly reputation? I honestly think people dont give kids enough credit. BBW was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Very intense ride, though it sported such a low height requirement.

Every ride doesnt have to be "kid friendly"(and by kid, I mean those that are still having fun in sesame street). Just about every ride I can think of is family friendly. Every single attraction, minus probably Darkastle is family friendly. I know ten year olds who think Griffon is too tame, and know 35 year olds who think it's intense. Please tell me what a family friendly roller coaster should be? Young kids everyday ride every single coaster in that park and think nothing of it, other than it was fun.

When I said "family friendly" I was not only talking about kids. And the Wolf was great because of the fact that it was a thrilling coaster that didn't rely on inversions or high hights. I know a few people who would ride the Wolf but would not ride Nessie or Alpie because of the inversion nor Apollo because of the height. So I think a coaster with a height of 300+ foot would just be building another Apollo's Chariot.

About the Mach Tower's height being less than that of Drop Zone:
Ask 10 people at King's Dominion how tall Drop Zone is. I doubt a single one will get it right. Now do the same for i305. Exactly.

The Permit says the attraction is 95ft. A roller coaster is an attraction.

Also, about the 2012 ride sneak info. I can confirm that the instructor told us in orientation details on the ride. And yes Carl Lum was in the room to confirm everything the instructor said and to chip in a few words himself.
So 300ft or not?
I can't answer that bro. Not worth risking my job over.

they can do it. just think. apollo is 170 ft tall, but with a 210 ft drop....thats a 40 ft gain, and its only basically going into a ditch. Now have the drop start from as high up as bbw's second hill and go down to some degree, they could squeeze out something between 200-300 ft.... its possible.

the area is 55 ft above sea level next to a river. It's not possible kid. That would be asking for trouble. If I dig a 3ft hole in my backyard, I will find water, I can then remove it and dig more. After I get to about 5 feet, the water will come in so fast, and the mud will be so slushy, you couldn't do anything with it. To have a hole go 150ft below sea level, next to a river, near a bay, is not the way to make a coaster.

James, why would you even ask if 300+ feet was said? We know what was said, the question is, was the park telling the truth.

I cannot imagine them blatantly advertising wrong information, especially to their employees that I am sure have a passion for their job.

Keep in mind BBW couldn't come asa close to the water as what this coaster would be able to. That would certainly gain some feet.

I'm with James when I say that 300 feet is to ridiculous to actually believe. When the day comes that Busch Gardens announces a +300 ft coaster is coming to the park in 2012, then at that time will I eat my words.

With the park having Kingsmill behind the park, their is NO WAY the coaster is going that big. The thing would have to be the same color as Griffon and somehow completely silent.

This is what will probably happen...

I will not repaet myself. I agree that the 95ft proposal sounds about right. I bet that the themed bridge will be indoors to contain sound. I bet the only out door coaster track will be below tree level. I bet this thing from a distance will be quiet. I bet that this coaster will either be built by Intamin (due to its connection with Cheetah Hunt) or Gerstlauer (rumor has it the coaster is by a German manufacturer).

I bet that we will love this coaster no matter what it does. I bet ya'll all think I am a complete luny for repeat myself time and again.

I base my argument off of history and logic. There is NO WAY that a 300ft coaster so close to Kingsmill would be approved by the James City County Planning Comission.

I am done ranting now. If ya'll to chose to believe a second hand account over 'evidence' of past conflict over BGW coasters then fine. I'm not calling anybody a liar, but I would bet that the 300ft RUMOR was laid as a false trail for BGW to find out the 'squealers'

And by the way, Mach tower will be BLUE and WHITE, thus blending in with the sky. This probably why it was apporved.

*takes breath*

EDIT: If you want to talk to me more about what I think, whether you disagree with me or not, etc. You can PM me.

I see exactly where you are coming from with trying to weed out the loud mouths completely.

I will disagree with the evidence of past coasters. In the past a company had to appease all of its assets. BGW and KM are no longer under the same company. If Busch submitted a mind blowing plan to JCC Planning Commission and it got approved then it would be no different than the business owners and developments around Tampa complaining about noise.

First off, it's not a second hand account, it's multiple second hand accounts (three or four now). Secondly, I just can't believe that the general manager of a theme park would stand in front of a room of employees and flat out lie to them. It's just madness. Furthermore, how did they think that they would catch anyone? No one is stupid enough to give any identifying information when leaking stuff like this.

One last point for everyone: King's Dominion kept their giga coaster under wraps until July, 20th 2009 when someone took a picture of the shipping label on a box of bolts. Apparently, keeping things like this a secret is possible...

EDIT: KDcoasterMAN, why move a perfectly good conversation to PMs? That's not what forums are about.
