RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I know i hate how they hire a whole bunch of people that dont care about the park when theres an entire site of people that would work for little to nothing.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Unfortunatly I dont think they spelled it wrong :( but I like Verboten the banned part of the forest seems cool

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

From a marketing standpoint, they want a name that park guests will be able to remember and pronounce which is why words like "turbo" get thrown in there. It would be great if they could find a catchy German name like Verboten. Maybe something with the word forest, wald. Ooh, I like the word for Wild too: Verwildert.

Anyway, they have some work to do. At least they are soliciting opinions.

And what's wrong with a journey through the black forest as the theme. They already have "autobahn", the bumper cars, that will confuse people.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I really love Description +1, but I actually think Verbolten is a pretty sexy name.... sounds like the name of a fast car... again love that description!:D

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

If a name of a Busch Gardens Williamsburg coaster reminds you of a fast car, it's a sign that Busch Gardens needs to do better.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

well i mean, it just sounds good. verboten doesnt to me, and neither do the others! I could see a rollercoaster called that any where...

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I am not so fond of any of the names. Sadly. Verbolten sounds like the German word verboten which means Forbidden. Although most Americans know "Forboden" which is actually Dutch. (Told you I was full of useless info).

Verboten or Forbidden would be a much cooler name... spoooOOky. "Verbotener Wald" Forbidden Forest? I dunno, kind of eh~ The Autobahn theme is not appropriate for the area and 17th-18th century Europe. I mean it is very German, it is very "fast and dangerous" but does it fit?

A good one that ties into "Wolf" could be "Wolfangriff" which translates to "Attack of the Wolf" or "Wolf Attack" Kind of sounds legend like- Griff- Griffon; wolf.. not too shabby I think. Oh well, nothing will come of it; but it is nice to dream.

Did I mention I loved the German Language? Well, now ya know. :D

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

From Screamscape:
Busch Gardens Williamsburg sent out a survey earlier today that asks a question about their big 2012 coaster plans. The survey first gives a brief theme description of the coaster: “See if you can brave the Black Forest on Busch Garden’s all-new roller coaster in the Germany area. What starts as a nice ride through the countryside quickly launches into a lightning-fast, multi-sensory dash through crazy turns, hidden hazards and heart-pounding drops. Inspired by the famed autobahn, the ride combines fast launches, special effects and indoor and outdoor elements to makei t a one-of-a-kind coaster experience.”

So let me get this straight: The ripped down a one of a kind coaster that fit the park perfectly and they are going to replace it with a ride themed to a glorified interstate?! This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Part of me wants to laugh and part of me wants to cry. This level of stupidity is just unheard of!

There are four possibilities about what's going on here:
  1. This is just made to throw us off
  2. Someone is missreading thier calendar (No, it's not April 1st Busch Gardens)
  3. Thier ride devolopment department has lost all of thier talent that they once had (see DarKastle, Alpen, Apollo, etc.)
  4. I'm asleep and this is all really a dream

Goodnight. I have my fingers crossed that it's number 4.

Thats a bunch of crap. No matter your opinions, I can tell you... the people who come up with this DO care about the park. They may have a vision that is different than you, but they still care about the park. Does anyone think, maybe the park is moving away from the 17th century “Old Country” and more into a modern Europe version. It looks like they are trying to become a new type of theme park, where theme is incredible and instrumental... but they have more aspects of a modern amusement park that places like Disney lack. So... Islands of Adventure Lite.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

CoasterChris, for the part of the people who work for the park caring, yes I wholeheartedly agree with you! There is no doubt that the folks in control care and want the best for the park.

Still, even though your beef is with Balak, my point is that it would be nice if the park remained more "Old Country" based as there is too much of the park still reminiscent of the past. It is not modern London, Paris, and Berlin here; we have a "Bavarian Village" being built for Mach Tower which signifies old world Europe. I am positive that the ride is "Based" on the Autobahn, but I do hope it goes further back in German lore for the naming of the ride.

Do I think this will happen with the lore bit? No. I think It will be named much like the Autobahn in some fashion. Ah~ Wolfangriff sounds so much more ~ mysterious and powerful. If only.

I can understand if the park wants to upgrade to more modern times and I would LOVE to be in the meeting rooms when such discussions are on the floor. I am sure there are amazing ideas out there; and I would enjoy tossing my own into the mix.

As Conan says: "Be cool, my babies" and try not to get riled up by other folk's posts. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinions and ideas. Thus the joy of being in a forum!

I go on a date with my girlfriend, come back and BGW gives away the description of their ride and possible names on a survey? Holy crap.

I've been thinking awhile about this and I just can not make sense of why BGW would do this....Its just so out of character on their part.

NOTE: The two Project 2012 threads have now been merged.

Was I harsh last night? Yes. Do I regret it? No.

Out of all of the legends and stories that they could've pick from out of the German culture, why did they chose the Autobahn? Was it so they could find a use for the old Le Mans cars? What story can you possibly get out of the Autobahn? Furthermore, I'm completely confused about how "Revenge of the Black Forest" relates to "Uber Bahn" or how "Uber Bahn" relates to "Black Forest Turbo" and as far as I can tell, Verbolten was just thrown in there because it sounds German. What happened to amazing names like Alpengeist and Shikra? They're creative, unique, and actually mean something. I think most of us agree that on the list of names that where given, Verbolten is the best, however, I honestly can't give it my vote. Why you ask? Because it means (at least from what I've been able to tell) absolutely nothing. We know people read at least some of what we say here, so why don't we just start spitting out ideas? The likelihood of it making any difference may be slim, but at least we can show them that there are good names to be had out there, and they should keep looking. This may be hard seeing that we don't know even the basic story (or if there even is one), but I'd just start playing with Google Translate (use their text to speech, it helps a done).

Names
Verlaufen (Ver-LAW-fen): Run
Geschwind (GERSCH-wint): Fast
Geschwindigkeit (Gersch-WINT-dish-kite): Speed
Laufwerk (LAW-falk): Drive

If I butchered the pronunciation, blame Google Translate's Text-To-Speech.

Out of the ones I've found so far, I'd say that Verlaufen is my favorite. It starts with the "Ver" that they seemed to like, and it has a certain ring to it (listen to it on Google Translate). I kinda like Geschwindigkeit as well though, even if it is a little long. It has a mythical sound to it while still being obviously German (Google Translate).

Simple: What happened with Cheetah Hunt's name.

Well when I was thinking about Wolfangriff; or Wolf Attack ~ It would also carry a similar theme as Cheetah Hunt (or as I wish it would be called) Cheetaka. They both evoke speed and agility- power and a "chasing" aspect through terrain.

Names of coasters need to be powerful and evoke wildness about them; an uncontrollable fury I suppose. Loch Ness Monster; mythical - massive- and lurking beneath the Loch waiting to grab any boat that dares go by. Griffon, regal and fierce; a mix between the king of birds and of beasts! Alpengeist ~or AlpenSpirit ~ a legendary beast of the mountain that reeks havoc on those who dare traverse to the top. Apollo's Chariot; Iconic imagery of a Roman God racing across the sky in a Fiery Chariot.

Now I look at the names we are to choose from and the first thoughts through my head when reading them:

UberBahn - oh yeah, that name is uber blech.
Black Forest Turbo - isn't that a Game for the XBox?
Revenge of the Black Forest - I picture the Ents from Lord of the Rings stories attacking Saruman.
Verbolten - It sounds like what happens when you stick your hand in a light socket: "Ach! Ich bin verbolten!"

Just a tidbit from the International Wolf Center: Wolves will travel for long distances by trotting at about five miles per hour. They can run at speeds of 36 to 38 miles per hour for short bursts while chasing prey. Although bursts of maximum speed are relatively short, wolves can maintain pursuit of running prey animals for long distances and over rough terrain.

OK, so they cannot run 60mph (although there have been a few Timber Wolves clocked close to that) but short bursts chasing prey through rough terrain for a long distance? Sounds like a great coaster concept to me.

I like the name Wolfangriff Nora. The one thing i dont understand tho is how they can come uo with some amazing coaster names, and than come up with horrible ones. German culture is full of old stories and ledgends. Out of all the countries to theme a coaster after, I think Germany would be one of the easiest. I know alot of you will not aggree with me but I did not absulutly love the name Big Bad Wolf, I liked it but I did not love it. All of the other coasters have great names. They should put out a thing for fans of the park to put in what they think the coaster should be called and why, than chose there favorites, than let the fans vote, and no I am not crazy I have seen other parks do that.

Sorry that I am kind of late to the party. They said that it was something about a dark Forrest but an autobahn theme right?

That really confuses me

If that is true why don't they call it 'gefährlich' or 'riskant' which mean dangerous and risky respectively in German. Both words at least some what accurately describe there concept. Dark Forrest with lots of twists and turns are certainly dangerous, and you take a risk every time you drive onto an autobahn.

Or might I suggest 'verrückte Abenteuer', which means crazy adventure which can describe forests and crazy highways, and I think that it goes with whatever busch is going with or mächtig which means Powerful

I like Verbolten, but idk... all these names irritate me as a German speaker. Same thing with Mäch Tower. German lore is so interesting but none of these names are even related to german. Ex. Uber means "over" in german... the only problem I can see with using real german words is that they tend to be difficult to pronounce correctly. I know my friends butcher it... Like I can’t see people ever using Geschwindigkeit. It’s just too different.

See if you can brave the Black Forest on Busch Garden’s all-new roller coaster in the Germany area. What starts as a nice ride through the countryside quickly launches into a lightning-fast, multi-sensory dash through crazy turns, hidden hazards and heart-pounding drops. Inspired by the famed autobahn, the ride combines fast launches, special effects and indoor and outdoor elements to make it a one-of-a-kind coaster experience.

To me, it seems pretty likely that the ride itself is themed to the Black Forest, and that the lightning-fast launches and the multi-sensory dash through crazy turns, hidden hazards, heart-pounding drops and speed are the elements that are "inspired by the famed autobahn." The powers that be at Busch Gardens are not idiots. The park is built around folklore, legends, and culture. I think the likelihood of a highway themed ride are slim to none. Think of all the work that the park is putting into the New Oktoberfest. Even if the idea of putting a modern, racing-themed roller coaster was mentioned, I should hope that it was shot down quickly by those working within the company, and if not, I simply cannot even imagine it getting through the fan selection process.

A roller coaster that was a little darker - a little spookier - with a backstory would be a great addition to Busch Gardens. I imagine the set-up being a lot like Alton Tower's THIRTEEN. Twisted, gnarled branches in the queue, launching through the foggy, shadowed forest... And with the indoor sections that I'm imagining (again, a la The Revenge of the Mummy with some slower dark-ride portions) I think this could be awesome. The park has proven its creativity with Curse of DarKastle. Who's to say that this ride couldn't be a natural extension of the same icy, haunted forest?

As for the name, Verbolten sounds the best to me. As has been mentioned, it's almost German for forbidden, which sets up a great springboard for the ride's story. And hopefully it's been noticed that the added "l" is likely not a mistake, but rather a way to include a very important English word... Uber Bahn would frankly be embarrassing, as would Black Forest Turbo. The notion of either of these names being used makes me question what's going on at the SWP&E parks recently... (SheiKra, Gwazi, Montu, Kumba... Cheetah Hunt? Did they not notice a pattern? Williamsburg has Griffon, Alpengeist, Loch Ness Monster, Apollo's Chariot... Uber Bahn? I'd cry). Hopefully the autobahn-themed names are just red herrings. I'm almost certain that they'll be in last place for the name selection, so let's hope the park pays attention to that.

Keep in mind that there's a planning commission meeting tonight at 7:00 that can be viewed online.

In reply to goodyellowkorn182:

First off, welcome to the forums.

I hope you're correct, it just seems odd that they'd put two names onto a list of four that focus so heavily on the Autobahn.
The park is built around folklore, legends, and culture.
Yes, this is true, however, they have shown that they are also willing to deviate from that. Europe in the Air replaced a ride with a great storyline and amazing theming with a glorified screensaver. The Mach Tower had a chance to have a nice story line and instead they're just putting in a new flat ride. I can't shake the feeling that something has changed with the park, a switch of some kind has been turned off.
