RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

but the way i look at it this ride will more than likely be crap because most good rides will take about a season or so to build test run and fix all the errors. all they have done with the drop tower is put markers on the ground to show where things r going to go. and if they have to move rides around dont you think they would have already done it because that will take a while to do also. so if theyre going to move the swings and katapult. that will take a couple weeks or so plus then then have to level the ground run all the electrical stuff that has to go underground. and has there even been the frist sight as to construction materials on scene

The build of the rides that will need to be moved of the rides if fairly strait forward. At the most the prep them for a different location will be leveling of ground/foundation/electrical, etc. A drop tower is FAST build, unless it is a Tower of Terror which I highly doubt.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Yeah, I don't think the actual drop tower will be that difficult to construct. The hardest parts should be the electrical and any enclosed areas. I think they are trying to delay the removal of rides and any serious construction until after Christmas Town, because this year's event should be much bigger than last year.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I've always looked at the drop tower project as something to make guests view the time between removing the Wolf and building another coaster seem shorter than it really is. It will be interesting to see Oktoberfest rearranged yet again. Poor Katipult, where or where will you go I wonder?

Although I must say that nothing will ever replace the Wolf for me. That is why I cringe when I use the word replacement. For me the word signifies wiping out; and equal trade. Bah~ that will never happen in my book!!

A new coaster placed in the Wolf site could never quite "replace the Wolf" as every coaster built to BGW standards in unique in its own way and is technically irreplaceable to some degree. but Perhaps we will be lucky enough that whatever BGW has in store honors the Wolf. That way it is not a replacement, but perhaps an upgrade from the original.

Let us hope it is not Wolf Vista and designed by Microsoft. ;)

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

i agree nora nothing can replace the wolf that was an awesome ride they better have something awesome th go in the wolfs spot. as far as the drop tower this is the way i see it if it isnt going to take much time to build it will be like drop zone at kings dominion go up drop down . whats so special. even if they prtically enclose it whats the big difference it will be a smaller drop zone. if they r going to make it anything worth while (like they normally do other than europe in the air and maybe this) it will take time to get the ground clear leveled electrical and build it. thats why i say its going to be crap because if it is going to be anything worth while they would have already started more than likely

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I don't think anyone here (except those roaming eyes from the park scanning our forums) knows exactly what this "tower" is going to be. It is all still speculation.

My guess is that the park will wait until after Christmas Town to begin working on the site. Taking down the swings is not so difficult and is done by the park quite often. Just theorizing here, but I have a hunch that the Tower will not be operational when the park opens next year- it may be the summer or later that the actual ride is up and running; whatever it is (theme wise).

The reason I am stating this is that BGW has the unprecedented year of continuous operation until December 31st! So happy about that. Anyway, the Swings are way to popular to move as of yet. The moving of the swings back to the original location; easy.

Adjusting the power and adding new electrical currents and mechanisms to install a tower... not so much. We really need to know more info before we can judge how difficult the ride would be to build and estimate how long it will take.

Well, we really don't know any details yet, so you'll have to wait and see what the big deal is.

On a side note, I was looking towards the ever seeming FAR future for the real "replacement" for the Wolf. (Sorry, Nora, I can't think of another word for it.) Powder Keg at Silver Dollar City is an extremely popular attraction there. It's height requirement is only 42 inches, the same as the Wolf once was. Plus, the Screamscape rumors mention that it may be a Mack launched coaster. While Powder Keg is not a Mack ride (it's a Premier/S&S amalgamation), it does feature the same launch element. Powder Keg's height is also 98 feet, and the Wolf was 99. Seems to me that a Powder Keg style coaster would be a good choice for the next roller coaster. It's a hit amongst families and little children, it's intense enough for us enthusiasts, but not too intense for the tykes, and has the same kind of dimensions. Additionally, it would be unique to the park as Busch has nothing like this. It could easily run off of the same theme of the Wolf, maybe even improving it, as you get blasted away from the Big Bad Wolf - at the speed of fright, of course. Imagine a ride like that tearing through the terrain back there. That's something I could get excited for. :D

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

The original location for the Swings was right where the Katipilt is now. I loved the Swings there because it felt like you were flying over the trees!

Franco, I wish I could think of a better word than replacement too. When i think of one, I will let you know. ;)

Also, "Speed of Fright" as a blast ride would be amazing. Imagine the Wolf concept hyped up on super speed; flying even faster through the woods and around the Rhine... dangling like a flier that somehow swings lateral as well. (For I do love me some lateral G's!) :)

It is too much to hope for. Perhaps pessimism right now is best... that way, if something is built that really warms my heart; I am even more pleasantly surprised. Yes; I am an official pessimist-optimist for that reason alone.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Out of those choices, only successor makes sense to me.

So Nora, I suppose you set low expectations only to be overjoyed by the smallest of things? :) I refuse to remain pessimistic on this. Personally, I like to think that BGW has a pleasant surprise up their sleeve that no one is expecting. :sleepy:

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

OOOOOOO!! How about Successor? That sounds fabulous! What will be the successor to the Big Bad Wolf! Sweet. Using that noun instead sounds as if it is a passing of the guard.. one neither replaces the other in quality.. just one succeeds the other!! Whoop!! What say yall? Big Bad Wolf's Successor?

Ha! That is me to a T! Low expectations always means there will be something of a pleasant result. But dang.. you all beat me to the Successor thing; perhaps I type too slow!

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Maybe Chris should change the name of the thread to "Successor Project to the Big Bad Wolf." :)

RE: Successor Project to the Big Bad Wolf

I read on Screamscape the announcemet is to be September 18!:)

RE: Successor Project to the Big Bad Wolf

Park News - (9/8/10) I’ve been told that Busch Gardens Williamsburg will make an announcement about their big plans for the next two years at both BGW and Water Country USA on September 18th.

So this announcement is supposed to cover what is happening for the next TWO years. If there is a true successor project to the Wolf coming in 2012, as there should be, we should find out on the 18th. What a fantastic day that should prove to be!
