I don't hate the ride, like Shane, I prefer not to walk around in wet clothing.  The history does not bother me one bit.  Frankly I think it adds to the rides interest.

THIS! Oh man we were in FL at Universal and went on Bluto's Barge first thing in the morning around 9 AM. We never dried out and they intentionally set us under the waterfall and soaked the entire boat. It was miserable all day hoping you'd eventually dry out, shoes and all.

Yes the sprayers. I hate them. Also if the effects aren't running it is because the ride-op in the booth overlooking the darkride section didn't press the button triggering the effects. Not because something is broken.

The effects aren't automatically triggered. A cast member sits in the booth and looks out a window at the ride. When a the boat trips a sensor, it causes a light to come on in the booth cueing the ride-op to press the button that triggers the effects. This is done so that if a guest is touching the water, has loose articles out or is breaking some other rules the effects are not triggered. If the button is not pressed it's not happening. The ride op only has a couple seconds while the light is on to press the button, otherwise nothing happens. And since we're all human in sure there are instances where the button just doesn't get pressed.

I managed to talk some friends into going on the ride during the summer and said you wont get too wet depending where you sit. However after the drop we got owned by the water jets to their surprise. Those things can soak you very quickly.

Should be interesting to see how Carl Lum Blue looks on a clear day.

No I believe they just changed it I have been looking at old and new photos and It's different in the newer photos compared to the old photos. In addition I as well hate the sprayers and if they replace anything it should be the landscaping, it was disappointing and stupid to replace the archaeological artifacts with shrubs. To this day I have vivid memories of looking at the tents, statues and the whole area was awe inspiring

Well, since I'm new here, I feel like I have to throw in my $0.02:

Escape from Pompeii is one of the best themed water rides outside of CA/FL. unfortunately it's a POS sometimes. And it's funny for me coming from HP where Intamin is revered (Fahrenheit, Storm, Skyrush, B&M's Bear was a breaking point for them) it's strange to hear them so hated here.

But anyways, would be nice to see them do something with a ride with reliability issues. If they really wanted to, I bet they could turn the pool into a bumper boats (I know wooo, so exciting!!), gut and refurbish the tower into some type of dark ride?

Any chance they could expand the building and the area around it to a new hamlet (seems like a sore topic around here) and use the building for a "Mummy's Revenge" style ride (yes I know that Verbolton has some elements of that)?

Sorry, I just kinda feel like the park has a bunch of "wasted space" tgat they could be making much better use of. I now that they are trying to keep an atmosphere to the place, but I've seen parks keep that and use the space well.

Pompeii is the second most recognized feature at BG (after nessie's loops). With Christmas town it is probably the most recognized area. While Pompeii is certainly not immune from replacement, it is a big part of the park and they won't tear it down without thinking twice. If they do tear it down, it would very likely be a total demo in my opinion. It is possible that they could reuse the building, especially seeing what they did with the BBW, but things just dont seem to work out that way most the time...

The show building would probably have enough room for a larger ride space. One problem the park supposedly faced with Intamin was the actual ride duration. Intamin was not willing to create a more customized layout to get the most out of the space.

I suppose they could try to create a two-story dark ride using vertical lifts. The splashdown takes up as much (if not more) space than the indoor portion. I'm sure there would be ample room for them to re-purpose that area as needed.

The ride is still a nightmare in my opinion. I don't know if Mack Gmbh. would/could re-purpose the ride to make it more like Journey to Atlantis, but that would be my dream.

How has this ride gone downhill in the last five years or so? I've been riding it since opening day as a kid and it's been one of my favorite attractions ever since. And I will miss all of the props outside of EFP if they really did get rid of them..

Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think I've gotten to ride Escape From Pompeii in like 4 or 5 years... Not due to me not wanting to ride it, but more so due to choosing the wrong days to go to the park and not looking at the weather. Whether it being really cold, always raining, or just late in the year (Howl O Scream/Christmas Town time) I can't recall, but there was always something blocking me from getting on.

Let me start by saying that I am one of the minority who actually like the ride as is. That said i am not blind to the issues it has.

One low ridership unless its an extremely hot summer day it has become almost a walk on ride as its a long wait if you have to wait for more than 2 boats.

Two high coast for all the effects and low reliability of those effects the fire only fully works about a third of the time.

Lastly. Low reliability of the ride as a whole. There is hardly a day that the ride doesn't shut down for a little while sometimes its must a few minutes over times its a decent amount of time.

It's not that the ride has gone down hill per-say in the last five years, it has always been a major problem for the park before it ever opened and has continued to be a problem for the last 20ish years.

Ride is still fairly popular. I was at the park with a few friends on a Saturday last July and the entire queue house was full.

Most days, its a walk on, but I doubt the public wants this ride gone anytime soon.

I rode it with a friend Sunday.. was told we were the only people in the last hour to ride. Granted, it was 43* outside and rain was looming in the distance. I'm not worried about getting wet if I'm almost by myself and in the middle right of the boat.

In the good old days you could ride it without getting drenched. Now you stand a good chance of being soaked by someone manning the water cannons at the end. One of the biggest improvements they could make would be to remove them, or at least disable them when the temperature is below a certain level.
