Escape from Pompeii IMO is on its way out, and seeing that its isolated from the rest of Italy, I think it would make a great location for a new country. EFP takes up a relatively large space and the space next to it has the opportunity to be expanded to. I think this would be a great location to have Greece. I know that this has been talked about before, but this is a new location. Say you level Pompeii, replace it with a dark ride about Greek mythology and surviving the wrath of Hades and the Titans, I say if you add a Greek themed restaurant, it would be awesome,

Thoughts?

RE: Pompeii makeover

My only issue is that Pompeii is really huge and is actually somewhat iconic with BGW. There is only but som many iconic figures the park uses for post cards and such as far as the most iconic places go. You have, Nessie's Loops, Festhaus, Big Ben, Escape from Pompeii, and a few other things. But my point is, though you all may hate the ride, it serves a purpose as being iconic and getting guests wet. The park only has three water rides and I honestly feel like they should get more water based rides. I think 5 or 6 is a good amount to have for a theme park.

Plus, the amount of work that has to be done to get rid of Pompeii and then re-build would take more than just one off season and imagine if they closed off Pompeii for an entire season or two while they tear Pompeii down and construct whatever else they would plan on building.

I see it as a logistic nightmare. Plus it is also a major Christmas Town photo op and attraction and even though special events probably shouldn't make or break a permanent attraction, it is such a major part of Christmas Town and the "bean-counters" will definitely be thinking of that.

But all in all, logistically and iconically and special event wise, it just doesn't make sense and would be a disaster.

RE: Pompeii makeover

If they are ever going to make a Greece they will just renovate Festa into it. If they added Greece where EFP was then that would let Itlay have 3 different sections, which I think the max should only be 2. And can we stop talking about taking down EFP. It's never going to happen, as long as it attracts a crowd it will stay. I'm fine with it getting a huge renovation, and making the ride more interesting, but they will never take it down.

No.

You see, Escape from Pompeii has some problems.
  1. Frequent downtime
  2. High operation costs
  3. Massive land use
  4. Blocking of additional useable land
  5. Very limited operating season
  6. Limited audience throughout the peak season
Add all that together and you get a ride that's ripe for removal. Not saying it'll be leaving within the next 5 or 10 years, but I'd say it's on a shortlist of possibilities.

Woah. Water cannons are 25¢. That's how they get you. Lots of quarters to get riders wet, then a strategically placed family dryer to rake in the big bucks.

What about water cannons on the bridge to alpengeist? Those poor log riding fools will never see it coming.

I likey this idea....That's not just evil....That's EVILLE. Like the frooits of the DEVILLE.....EEEEEEVILLE....

And I absolutely have to agree with Zach on this one. Pompeii takes up an ENORMOUS amount of space & lately even on busy days, the queue for the ride is incredibly short compared to the crowd. Look, even KD finally had to bite the bullet & get rid of Diamond Falls, a ride we've all been on & enjoyed in our formative years. But it's hampering any expansion effort due to it's location. Time for it to go. It was fun while it lasted.

RE: Pompeii makeover

How come you guys think all the water rides on up on the chopping board? Is this a personal dislike for the ride? Honestly, it is extremely well themed and I believe we will see it loved and updated and tweaked before it is removed. Yes removal will happen. Everything must leave at one point or another, even the Festhaus will be removed one day, but to the topic at hand! Pompeii is something I see them keeping around for awhile because it is so iconic and useful for Christmas Town and just looks amazing, whether you hate the ride or not you have to agree to looks fantastic compared to some other theming that you find in the park.

RE: Pompeii makeover

The 2 huge key things that make us believe it's going to be removed 5-10 years is because of the low reliability and it costs a lot of money just to run.

Those are two HUGE factors in whether a ride stays or not. A park builds rides so that they can make money. They believe that if they build this (Pompeii) then that will bring people into the park (and others things too, but just listen). If the park is constantly pouring money into just running the ride, then they are not succeeding in making money or at least not as much money. And the same goes with reliability. They are paying maintenance to constantly fix the ride. Not only paying maintenance, but also purchasing such parts for it. Also if the ride does break down, then they are paying ride operators to sit and relax and chat while maintenance is working to get the ride running instead of sending boats out.

Remember that rides are not free to run. Pompeii is in need to pump LOTS of water because of the bigger boats. The bigger the boat, then the more water needed to keep it afloat. Also the effects inside, i'm sure run on propane or something of that nature (someone can either confirm or deny that) which costs a lot of money. Also they have to pay another employee to operate those flames and make sure that they don't get out of control.

RE: Pompeii makeover

I love Pompeii and the theme, but it is getting a little old and needs a revamp! I fthey do tear it down, I hope they put another water ride in it's place.

I don't see how they're going to remove that whole building.

When Pompeii does eventually go, I don't see the building going with it. I'll be repurposed- I can almost guarantee that.

RE: Pompeii makeover

^Its just an empty shell. That whole building could be torn down in less than a month if they wanted to build something else there.

I still stand behind my prediction that Pompeii is the next ride to bite the dust.

I was thinking big here, not the replacement of a small attraction.
