R.I.P Shrubbery.:(

I'm sure they'll plant fresh new shrubbery though.:)

One of you should go on a busier day, so you can park there, and get some pictures of what will soon be, what used to be.

Not the best shots but here are some before shots of the overflow lots.

It'll eventually grow back....

Actually it kind've won't, because you know this thread is about how they are going to make new parking spaces out of that area. I'm pretty sure a tree can't grow through a parking lot.

The new material being used to pave the parking lots will allow grass to grow, so some shrubbery will grow back, just not the large trees.

Actually this isn't going to be made of pavement, it will be made of a special type of aggregate that wont be able to crack. It's supposed to be able to grow grass, but I really don't want it to. I mean who wants to park in grass? That's like parking for a county fair, not a theme park. However, I don't think this parking lot will sustain a lot of grass, considering a bunch of cars will constantly be driving over it, but I guess we'll see what it looks like when it happens.

The lot grows grass if it sits unused for a certain period of time. If it's used on a regular basis, it'll remain a tarmac parking lot.

That being said, the overflow lot isn't used that often to begin with outside of a few busy days let alone a full overflow lot. Maybe we'll start seeing grass pretty soon.

This still makes no sense.

They already reach capacity in the park with the overflow lots they have now.
Why would they add 500 more spaces to accommodate for 500 more cars that they won't be able to let in the park? By the time Bavaria is full, hitting capacity usually goes right along with it. AND, for those of you who have experienced parking in Bavaria, and the long tram lines that go with it, can you imagine parking yet another lot over, with 500 more people in front of you wanting to head to the park?? Uh, no.

Unless they plan on using part of one of the main lots for something else, and will need the extra spaces for that specific reason, I can't fathom them spending money on something like this when their budget is already so tight. AND, if they did use one of the main lots for something, the new 500 spaces would force them to keep those trams running, which costs $$$.

I may be totally wrong, but I just can't come up with a 'business reason' for them doing this.:-/

The highest amount of guests in the park at one time has been 38K people. Like I said, the park does have a fire marshal capacity limit of near 35K; however, they determine capacity by cars unfortunately. So the actual capacity number fluctuates depending on the amount of cars parked, which can in theory allow much more than the fire marshal limit.

There were days last October/summer where people were actually parking in the grass around the overflow lots and the crowds definitely felt like the park went over the normal capacity limit. If the park capacity is based off of the number of cars sitting in the lot and not the number of people in the park, you could easily go above the average capacity limit (into critical mass levels) by adding spaces to the overflow.

- You probably should stay away from traditional busy days if you wanna avoid standing behind 500 other people in the tram lines.

I agree we need more parking, but 500? Really? Tht is a very small amount considering.Perhaps they re just seeing a past trend and trying to allow a lil bit more poeple in for the new show?

So for those who haven't been by the overflow parking lots in awhile a slight update, the entire area is completely cleared of all trees. If anything they are in piles and getting hauled away, but not one tree stands. It really gives you a better look now about how the parking lots will really look, considering the ground appears to be very level.

To be honest, I wish they would repave the overflow lot and make it look a bit more kept. 500 spaces are all well and good, but it looks run down over there. It reminds me of a Wal Mart parking lot without the Wal-Mart.

I know they removed a great deal of trees close to 60 for these spaces- thus I hope landscaping is in order from the side of the road. Shrubbery would be nice.
