I think adding a resort would be both good for the park and surrounding Williamsburg area. I hope they build it so I could stay a prolonged period of time at the park :)

I think it would be a good idea as long as they are sure that it will compete with the surrounding hotels/resorts... I think if they started special perks for their hotel guests (Like Cedar Point) then they would be able to compete better with the local market... but in this economy, most people are wanting to find the cheapest way possible to get their vacation in... I know for a fact that if they started a hotel, they would not be the cheapest rooms available, and thats why they will need to offer special deals (like early entry and discount tickets) for their hotel guests

I agree with you @FAL NR ROX Many families cannot afford to stay in a resort like this, if Busch Gardens was to offer incentives, it would defiantly bring in a crowd...a marketing technique known as, "If the price is low, popularity will grow!", and cedar Point does have a pretty affordable vacation package.

Well along with the resort rumor, full year operation was rumored as well to go along with it, especially since resorts are not seasonal. Here is a bit of info about the design and use of this resort. A convention center, or something of the sort will be part of this resort, giving more to do all year round. For those who doubt full year operation, keep in mind the park HAS debated full year operation in these few recent years (confirmed).

They can debate all they want. Who is going to the park in the middle of February when it is 35 degrees and dreary rainy outside, this is the typical weather for this area for January, February, and into March. Don't take this last winter as the norm. Putting in a couple of dark rides is not going to change the fact that you still have to walk into the park and walk around to get to anything. I just can not see how they can possibly justify being opened during these months.

The same people who ride coasters in the rain, who want to ride coasters in freezing temps during Christmas Town, etc. people will go no matter the weather, especially if they have more indoor things to do, shows, dark rides, indoor flats, indoor restaurants, shops, etc.

Actually, I'd rather go in the winter, even considering any weather-related ride restrictions. And to me, even winters that are more typical than last winter still aren't very cold in the tidewater. So I would definitely go year round.

I would love to go and see the park from griffon with snow all on the trees. But i dont think they would have the bigger coasters open in winter, maby like have special ride times for the bigger coasters when its cold

Well most of the rides would not be working as it would be too cold for them to run... remember the end of HOS 2011? LNM, Mach Tower, and DK were the only major rides running... Plus, all of the rides have to be shut down for weeks to be inspected, true, they do not have to do them all at once, but you would still end up with a majority of the rides closed for yearly maintenance.

Did anyone stop and think that the resort could simply become an extension of Kingsmill during the winter?

Outside of the temperature item, parks like SWO, BGT, UNI, etc sure seem to find ways to get the inspections the done whilst maintaining a standard operating schedule.

Also they can do yearly maintenance throughout the year and not just during the winter. It maybe inconvenient but if the park announces its closure for extended period of time properly, many guests will understand and move on to all the other things.

The resort could be an extension to Kingsmill during the winter. It could be an extension to Kingsmill all year, but with perks at the park.

The main issue being full year operation is being rejected so often by theses issues:
- Annual Maintenance of Rides
- Attendance
- Weather
- Things To Do

My response is this,
like I said annual maintenance can be done throughout the entire year and not just during the winter. This can work well like it has been done for other parks. If it can be done at BGT, why can't it be done at BGW?
Attendance is a very unstable bet. You really can't rely on good attendance all the time. However, this does tie into Weather and Things To Do. If the weather is decent, which it really is, then people will still want to visit. Everyone complains that a typical Virginia winter is blah blah blah. You can sit there and say basic trends, and do research all you want, but when it comes down to it, no two days are the same ever. Weather is so unpredictable, the forecast is usually wrong most of the time. I have seen 10 day forecasts change back and forth between sunny and stormy 5 times. Plus, have you ever been to the park when its bad weather? Do you know how many people look forward to riding coasters in the rain, snow, or ice? Or any other ride for that matter? Think of all the shopping, dinning, and indoor shows? I think their current attractions, yes may not be enough indoor opportunity, however adding some more dark rides or relocating some flat rides indoors or even building a building around the current flat rides would be beneficial and work. This would also give them an opportunity to keep more rides open during storms since they would be indoors, and that is how I see that being probably the most likely and beneficial route. With all that factored in, there are people who love the park so much to go during winter, me included!

my qualm is there's just not enough to do that is indoors. I mean maybe if there were a couple more shows and another dark ride it would make sense. But 6 of the major attractions are high speed coasters. plus sesame street would not be open (i don't think). It's still doable, but I couldn't justify $70 tickets.
