There's a thread about the train station stuck to the rumours board. ;)

away for a week and tired, and things are easily missed...thanks:p

RE: A Resort Hotel?

We create a lot of rumors here, and then other sites report them, then we cite them and claim it as news. It's a very interesting circle.

Fixed. Also Train Station > Hotel

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I don't think Busch Gardens is up to the hotel level yet. I'm not even sure why Drayton Manor is adding one... BGW already has many hotels around Williamsburg, and short distance from the park. So personally, not a great idea... yet. Maybe they should test a hotel for another one of their parks and see if it turns out good, and if it gets lots of guests, then BGW can open one.

Yeah, let WCUSA do it. :p

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I'm not sure if this is related or if this might be the rumors that have been floating around. Kingsmill is getting ready to do a very large expansion. By getting ready I mean start construction this month. The expansion consisting of a "small water park", a 200 room hotel, refitting the marina area, and remodeling the existing resort building. I'm not directly involved in this project so I'm not entirely privy to the phasing or all the details, but a large portion of this project is to be finished by May 2012. So I'm not sure how this might relate to BG building a resort but it may be the rumors got crossed.

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I really don't see why they would try to "compete" with WCUSA. You need something more than a small water park to compete.

RE: A Resort Hotel?

There's been mummurs of a resort being built by Blackstone ever since they bought the parks. It stems from the fact that Blackstone is a major Hotel/Resort Operator (They own Hilton).

It's a known fact that the longer guest stay on a resort, the more money they spend at the resort.

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I don't think it's a matter of "competing" with WCUSA as much as what BGUeropeFan said, keep people at the resort. From what I've seen it's a couple large pools, a lazy river and a water slide. Here is an exert from the meeting minutes. This is really aggressive, they don't even have all the plans yet.

Kingsmill Resort – Resort Elements Meetings
August 11th – 12th, 2011

General Update:
• Next Xanterra Review: Gordon tomorrow morning (Friday, 12th) and Mr. Anschutz on August 29th or 30th

Schedule:
• Next live consultant meeting target: week of September 12th
• October 1, 2011 – Site is ready for construction
• April 30th, 2012 – Turnover and substantial completion target

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I do think if Busch had more budget for what they do in a year and had a few more stellar rides to make them a true destination park, they should go with the Resort thing. Right now they are a "above mediocre" park. How far above mediocre depends on what kind of person you are, though Im sure most of you guys know my opinion on the matter...

RE: A Resort Hotel?

Blackstone has the resources, the know how, and the connections; SWPE has the talent, the brand, and the regional expertise. It's just a matter of them comming together and wanting to do better.

While we know there was a study done, some employees must be absolutely clueless when it comes to where the surveying was done. Obviously that was for the coaster not a hotel. :dodgy:

No they do mean for a hotel. On the far side of the train tracks there were survey markers (as noted by someone who was shooting video for survey markers for the new coaster a while ago). Busch owns a lot of land on the other side of the tracks (that's where the boneyards are I believe).

Also, Busch owns all of the land where the 64 ramp is (they were the ones who funded the construction of the massive ramp many years ago). Imagine a coaster over interstate 64... that would be awesome! Far fetched, but awesome!

Welcome to Six Flags over Williamsburg!

Well hey, weren't they looking into buying the park when it was for sale? My idea might have actually been a possibility if they owned it :p

The land where the I-64 ramp is, was turned over to the state years ago. See here for their current property info.

Six Flags was never truly interested in buying the park, there was rumours at the time that they were planning on buying the land behind the Williamsburg Pottery. Six Flags was also filing for bankruptcy, and was more concerned about staying afloat than expanding. See http://www.bgescape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=946

Keep in mind Blackstone IS an investment group. Do not be surprised if you see the parks go to different entities in the next ten years when they raise the value.

Whilst true, the parks would be more likely to get an IPO like Merlin than anything. They're worth more together than apart.
