RE: A Resort Hotel?

Whilst true, the parks would be more likely to get an IPO like Merlin than anything. They're worth more together than apart.

Not with the ones who are interested in them.

RE: A Resort Hotel?

While I don't think BGW is a big enough destination park to warrant a resort on property, it might work if well marketed since the park is in a high-end tourist destination. If Blackstone plays their cards right, it could bring more families to the park as part of an extended Williamsburg vacation rather than a local day trip. That is one interesting thing that BGW has that most parks don't: a location in a nice tourist area. Disney created a nice tourist destination that Universal piggybacked off in Orlando, but most parks BGW's size are near large markets but way off in the suburbs for land. For instance, nobody happens to be vacationing in Gurnee, Illinois and decides, "You know what, we're so close, let's just go to Six Flags Great America!" Dollywood is the closest thing to BGW in this way because of their proximity to Gatlinburg, although the actual town of Pigeon Forge where it is located is a dump. But if you can entice people that are interested in staying a few days in the Williamsburg area, if BGW wasn't already on the agenda, and with the convenient location and some possible perks, it could be a good investment for Blackstone.

RE: A Resort Hotel?

Well said Franco...Plus could you people imagine the crowds with having a resort on-site?

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I think there would need to be some expansion to accompany the resort if it was ever added. The park hits capacity alot during the fall as it is. But I really could see this working. As Franco said, Williamsburg is a huge tourist spot. Theres plenty to do while in the area. The problem though, is that there is already quite a bit of competition when it comes to lodging in the area.

RE: A Resort Hotel?

I just got a survey asking about vacations from the E-Mail newsletter. They asked things like how often I visit the parks, how early I start planning for vacations, main reasons for visiting the Williamsburg area, reasons for vacations, length of vacations, what's influential on vacations and/or destinations, etc.

Probably, I have no clue what just happened but that story is intriguing. A hotel on site would be great for me because I live far away and the only way I get to go to the park is if I visit my sister's house near VA Beach, which isn't aways the most comfortable situation... Then we drive from her house there, which isnt long, but it prevents me from having a multiple day experience since she has kids to deal with and stuff of that matter. The hotel would be good then so i could stay there and go to the park and she could just drive up on a day she wants to...

So, will this resort make a link between Kingsmill and Busch since the two companies that own them are working together? Surely Xanterra wouldn't fund a resort which only serviced BG. I wonder how this will work out.

I am still very excited to see how this project plays out, and that this is great news (if true).

I don't like that it would mean that Kingsmill would have a say over what the park does again.

I think since KingsMill approached the park and not vice versa, the park will still rule over KingsMill.

Blackstone is the one with all the money remember...

I wonder how much they're going to have to expand the park due to this hotel, I can picture atleast one new country with this hotel.

Is the time you mentioned for only the plans and designs or are they actually going to have this finalized within the next year and get everything done within 3 years?

This is quite different from everything I've seen and heard over the last month or so. I know that there was a bid on 11/18 for the additional pools, water slides, and rebuilding the marina at Kingsmill. This project also included the infrastructure for a new resort hotel to be built running next to the 18th(?) fairway. This is suppose to be in the next phase of the project, which I don't have a timeline for. The work at Kingsmill is to start almost immediately and be ready for next season, Mayish. I'm sure this project is proceeding, I got an inquiry today from one of the lighting suppliers as to whether we were working the project, that he was getting pricing requests, unfortunately we didn't get the project. Maybe the resort project has changed, but I am sure this project is happening at Kingsmill.

If there is no major expansion to the park before they do this, I will lose all hope *-_- .
