To be fair, the initial concept for BGW’s Oktoberfest was the same as the park’s other hamlets — that it doesn’t represent a modern version of its real-life counterpart, but rather it represents some historical point in time. I was always under impression that BGW’s Oktoberfest was supposed to be set at some point in 19th century Bavaria. That would explain the vintage artwork and traditional German architecture throughout the area.
Of course, today’s Oktoberfest at BGW has a less clearly defined timeline, especially with Verbolten’s 1950s sports car theme. As a diehard believer in the “Old Country” theming, I’d personally prefer the Oktoberfest area to take continue to represent some time from the past, but I will agree that vibrant, in-your-face “modern” Oktoberfest would be a lot of fun.
Firstly, I’m really hoping Busch decides to focus more on a 19th century Bavaria feel for Oktoberfest. I have to be honest—I feel this way because I want to hang on to the Ludwig II theme as much as possible. I like to imagine Verbolten as just a separate little step into the future.Something interesting I saw today, some of the murals that were painted inside of the games have been completely painted over with an ugly light blue color. Sad to see these beautiful murals just gone for no reason.
Secondly, the loss of the murals is heartbreaking. I have always thought Oktoberfest to be the best and prettiest section of the park. Here’s hoping they decide to paint some new murals (as optimistic and unlikely as that sounds).
