The little German murals inside the games booths are quite possibly my favorite detail in Oktoberfest (besides all the details inside the Festhaus). They were just so unnecessary and unexpected that it was wonderful to see them, and they really added that sense of character and charm to Oktoberfest.

What the hell is happening at this park?

Something interesting I saw today, some of the murals that were painted inside of the games have been completely painted over with an ugly light blue color. Sad to see these beautiful murals just gone for no reason.
The ones on the metal garage doors?

I was extremely suprised to see them gone. Now that the games are contracted out I guess the company running them doesn’t care about things like murals but those murals are something that a lot of people enjoyed and like you said it’s something that really stood out in that area. Super sad to see them gone.

Only games operations are contracted out. BGW controls the buildings/spaces/etc. This was 100% BGW.

Also, I'm double posting, but fuck it. This is legitimately disgusting. What is the POSSIBLE justification for just arbitrarily destroying a full wall of art? I legitimately can't fathom the thought process.

The worst part is that this is the kind of thing that, when it's painted over, it's never coming back. It's just gone forever—after likely existing since the second year of the park's existance. Fucking enraging.

My thoughts exactly. And the paint job that I saw on there today was absolutely horrendous. The wall was all scraped up and I even saw a handprints all over the wall. After all the years of that mural being on the wall it was still in very good condition and now, gone forever.

So considering now would traditionally be the off-season where this kind of work would be completed before guests have a chance to see it, is there no chance a new piece of art would be coming to that space?

Echoing @Jonesta6 above, might we see artwork return in a different form?

A large format scenic wall decal? Something generic from Magic Murals? Some other partially compensatory measure which doesn't justify the artwork destruction but nonetheless bests a poorly painted blue wall?

Anything...?

Also, random question for @Buschfan777: did the ugly light blue color happen to closely resemble Alpengeist's supports?

I honestly think it's highly unlikely for a new mural to be put there. if anything I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them just use that wall to display prizes on grid wall now. To answer @halfabee it wasn't the same blue as Alpengeist it was a little different.

If this is what the case is, wouldn't be too shocking if there was background of this being part of the outsourcing of games from a loss prevention standpoint.

Yep I agree. I don't know this for certain but based off of the info I know, I do think this decision was made by the company running them and not fully BGW.

I'm not sure I follow the logic.

"We're worried about loss prevention; so let's preemptively destroy the murals".

Murals mean they don't display prizes back there. By hanging the prizes if the game attendant is distracted someone could grab and go. For most games when the prize wall is on the backside then it's harder to do so.

There's logic to moving the prizes.

Personally I think there could have been better ways of handling it than painting the murals.

The surface looks like the same material as before so I think we can rule out making it less slippery as the reason for the work. Still closed but it appears that the concrete is still curing si hopefully next week.
