RE: Night Beats (2012 to Present)

Did anyone stop to think these changes were a result of London Rocks?

Night Beats had a story, it wasn't very prevalent, but it was there and understood. People complained constantly that they didn't understand London Rocks story, so perhaps to ensure that people understood Night Beats story as well, they tried to make it more crystal clear.

Personally, the show is still great.

PR: People weren't upset about not being able to understand LR's story, they were upset about the story being too unnecessarily complicated to follow. Sometimes people just want a music show.

Such sadness.

The dancing and coreography got screwed, don't expect the nice intricate dancing you saw in past years, because it's been dumbed down to the bare minimum. Less dancers, less singers, terrible jokes, less of the unique crowd interaction, no more rising tables. Oh, and don't forget more sexual innuendo, and sparkles!!!

What they have done to this show is absolutely sickening. I wanted to throw up.

I wanted to cry throughout the whole show. In my mind I was saying, "Ulrich, I want to clap for you, I really do, but the powers of evil in this park have made it so hard to." I was on the verge of tears the whole show.

Has anyone seen Nightbeats yet?  Website lists 12:30 showing?  Thanks!

I sat through 10 minutes of it on Friday...that's all I could stand and then I left early to catch Monster Stomp...which was awesome!

The musicians are actually playing just fyi.. There is a track playing with them, however sometimes the administration likes the track more visible. Hence why you think they are not "actually" playing. The more you know.

So sad to read the negative reports on Night Beats. Loved this show last year. Still holding out hope for when I see it in person. Hard to believe a show starring Ulrich could be all bad.

RE: Night Beats (2012 to Present)

The vocalists are fantastic through and through. In fact, this year's Beatrix may be the best person who has played the part yet. The clear vocal talent of the performers makes the fact that BGW ruined the show far, far worse.

To give people an idea, Beatrix now walks around on stage alone for what felt like an eternity asking the audience if Ulrich really loves her and if she should stay or not.

Night Beats was supposed to be BGW's refined, mature Howl-O-Scream production and, for two amazing years, it was. Night Beats opened with awe-inspiring talent, stunning choreography, incredible pacing and transitions, fabulous costumes, etc. All that, aside from the talent, is gone. There are some good costumes left, but even the bulk of them have been downgraded.

I'm sure anyone who has seen Night Beats remembers the owl ballroom scene- not because it was iconic or blew anyone's minds, but because, especially in 2012, it was just a beautiful section of the show. Fabulous ballroom dancing with curious avian touches all the way through. It was just a gorgeous number. That has been replaced with people in similar outfits with red feathered boas "dancing" on tables. The entire heart and soul of that section of the show is gone.

Night Beats used to be a great dance show with a live band and a few stellar vocalists. The cast has been widdled down so far now that all they seem to have left is vocalists and band. The beautiful dance numbers are gone. All of Night Beats' choreography is gone.

Then, as icing on the shit cake, the transitions. I always admired Night Beats' icy smooth transitions. Despite its constant costume changes, you never felt like you were watching filler. This year, you feel as though 50% of the show is pure, horrible filler. 2014's pacing is absolutely disastrous.

Seriously. Busch Gardens Williamsburg has fucked Night Beats. It's now trying to be funny and sexy (read: campy and trashy) and, with Fiends right across the park, needless to say, Night Beats isn't even going to get the attention of the group of people who like such things. Worse, it completely fucked up the show for all the rest of us.

They should just bring back FrankenRock. That show didn't have any problems at all. I've never seen Night Beats but I would like to so maybe I could give a review through eyes of a person that hasn't seen the first version. It can't be as bad as FrankenRock.

"I've never seen Night Beats but I would like to so maybe I could give a review through eyes of a person that hasn't seen the first version."

I haven't seen Night Beats either due to my self imposed FestHaus ban after the atrocity known as "Christmas Town FestHaus Rude Persons All over the place disaster". But thats another story for another time. Not to knock the FestHaus. Love the food and always had great service and interaction with staff. The patrons that day were another thing entirely. But back to the topic at hand.

Maybe I will try to give the show A viewing to get another persons perspective who hasn't seen it either.

Tentatively going Sunday Oct 5th.

Saw the show yesterday. It really wasn't that bad. Any "adult" jokes flew right over me - if there really was any to be had.

Since everyone loves hating on things, I'll start with the cons first.
- Any added dialogue that wasn't in the 2012-2013 shows was pretty cheesy. Not a huge fan of that.

As for everything else...
- The stage looks 100% better. In previous years, it was rather bland. Glad they actually put a little effort in it.
- The pointless jitterbug scene is gone, replaced with another song number. The song they chose didn't seem all that special, but it beats the jitterbug scene by a long shot.
- It's still largely the same show from last year. All my friends enjoyed it.
- Beatrice is awesome, but Zach already covered that.

Overall, like Alpen said, everyone is overreacting (or they reverted back to the previous show after everyone complained).
