RE: Night Beats (2012 to Present)
The extra blocking, Beatrix's talk to the crowd and some other things are to take up the extra time for the missing tunes.
I believe we aren't suppose to name people. So, vaguely, choreography changes are likely because they have a new local choreograph. This change over REALLY shows in NB. Her lack of variety in choreography would seem like a grim outlook for future creativity and artistic expansion. I'm not sure why the old gal's works need to be replaced in the first place. The old choreography girl we liked very much.
Here is a project for you. Watch for how many shows now have the knee-slap-hand-clap-stomp-feet move. Also, running in circles around some object.
Uninspired dance changes, added story, new blocking and extra dialog that kills the show's pace to a near stop at times. Not a fan of the changes at all. Loosing the Jitterbug and WHAM is more than fine with us. Still a fan of the show, especially Ulrich and the excellent Beatrix this year. But we are missing some endearing touches. What this cast could do given the proper tools...
