Not to put tot fine a point on things, but "Sweet Charity" is not really an "Obscure" musical. Certainly, it gets lost in the glut of 1960 hippy musicals that all run together, but it is a high school/local theater favorite.

I dislike almost everything about entertainment in the park. But if they can get people to google songs and learn somthing about music theater, then I count that as a win. It is truely the American art form.

Did you notice the shrill screeching at the opening and the ending?I believe it is an homage to another notorious London killer, although a fictitious one at that,Sweeney Todd. In the original Broadway production it is placed throughout the entire show. I personally loved this show.just the right amount of dark and, maybe I'm the only one but...I didn't mind the rapping since it was so short and we had already established the use of more modern songs. Mainly 80s-90s songs.

Some have asked me if the lead girl is "Elizabeth" the sister is looking for during preshow. Perhaps it is and was changed, MANY other things were changed. What I saw lists the lead as Mary Jane Allen. The first Ripper/Audience clapping interaction is described as getting the audience 'on his team'. So, yes I suppose we are to like him. It also says "we hear a thrilling, screeching whistle (a la 'Sweeney Todd') as he strikes".

I believe the slitting of the throats pays homage to Sweeney Todd also, since Jack the Ripper 'ripped' his victims open lengthwise. I could be mistaken, but I don't think the Ripper slit any throats.

^^ He also horribly mutilated 4 out of his 5 "canonical" victims, and in several cases removed various organs such as the uterus, kidneys and (in one case) the heart. Photographs of several of the crime scenes and victims exist, but I do not recommend looking for them.

Now doesn't all that just scream family theme park musical fun?!

You know, Fiends has both bestiality (nurses sexually attracted to a wolf) and necrophilia (nurses sexually attracted to a guy made of dead body parts), and nobody complains about that, ever. Why can't you guys just be thankful for the delightful spin Scott has put on bloody murders already?!

Next thing you know you're going to tell me you don't love the fun "hidden" jokes about male genitalia in the Festhaus. Gimme a break, guys! :p
