I mostly preferred the swing cast members for both performers to be honest. To be fair, both lead characters are tough roles to play. You need to have perfect singing, dancing, and acting skills for both roles. I think both leads had only two of those three (each with different strengths).

So, how about that flight rigging? I have heard that was in the books for this year. Honestly, I hope they choose not to do it. In my opinion, unless it is necessary to the plot, flight of any kind is a useless gimmick. I don't want to see them cheapen the show.

Also, adding something to buy time might help. The show seemed one song too short for me. It reminds me of my biggest complaint about London Rocks. The show simply ends without any transition to justify it ending. In London Rocks:(finale)"It just goes to show- All you need is love!" (short song, curtain closes)
In Monster Stomp: Everyone ends up in hell at the end and starts singing "Beat It!" (The curtain closes as soon as the audience begins to get comfy/appreciate the show.) They still have a few issues to work out. Hopefully the changes won't have to be to drastic, like London Rocks.

I hope, and half expect, to see the park rework the entire "Hell" seen. It was gaudy, flashy, cheesy, and totally "Scott". Maybe Gasparich's departure will mean the removal of this scene, which felt out of context with the rest of the show. It'll save the show some eye rolls from me.

Oh, and for the love of all things holy, get rid of the rap. That was just bloody awful.

I'm still waiting for Monster Stomp to have, y'know, monsters in it again.

I get the Ripper was a monster, in a real sense of the term. The skeletons are monsters in the sense of Halloween spookiness. And then there were the demon creatures?? Which I never understood. But unless you're trying to tell me that the hell scene was supposed to be a "It goes to show, prostitutes are monsters too! :D" I really want a monster stomp with monsters in it again.

And for real, just ditch the hell scene. It makes zero sense.

What about the tap dance straight jacket guys? Have a scene where the inmates of Bedlam escape. Also, tie into to other classical horror tales like Jekyll and Hyde. Maybe have Jekyll/Hyde fighting with the Ripper over Mary Jane.

While psychiatric ward patients are not monsters, and are in fact just not well people. I do miss that part of the original Monster Stomp, it was my favorite bit, tbh.

But I'd be satisfied with more generic monsters. Vampires, werewolves, monstrous creations, etc. Skeletons aren't enough for the show to be titled "Monster Stomp"

I think the main reason they dont put them in is because two hamlets over there is a show with werewolves, vampires, and a generic monster. Not to mention on the other side of the park is a show entirely devoted to vampires. I like the idea of a show without any real "monsters" except for people. People are, without a doubt, scarier than most monsters. In fact, most supernatural legends stem from the fact we couldnt wrap our heads around people commiting such heinous acts. That being said, I would love to see more traditional horror elements being added or not so well known villains. For instance, Spring-heeled jack who was a robber who was able to leap great distances parkour-style and use variety of fighting skills. He would later be the inspiration for a little known hardly popular comic book character known as Batman...

I would also love to see Jekyll & Hyde and other famous killers, fictional or not, be tied in. Essentially creating a rogue gallery of serial killers.

Also, this song, if condensed would be perfect for MSoRR!

I just spent so much time trying to find a full video of the show for like the fifth time since the show ended. I'll be there Friday at 1:30, probably by myself. I can't wait.

Little review

The stage looks a foot lower than last year, doesn't make the performance look as epic.
Only two demons? (Might just be first show)
Lead male lacking charisma and soul
And importantly they froze the intro projection right before Jack holds the woman's head and her body falls, totally took me out of the moment and doesn't look right at all. They didn't build a new projection and blend they just froze it. Head gate 2k16

My thoughts exactly. To be honest, that was my favorite animation in the show. I even understand why they removed it, but they could've done it in a more classy manner. Stopping the projection midcourse was like someone turning off the projector during a movie. They definitely had a few first night jitters. In the song "Wake Me Up", the drummers looked like they were practicing their blocking. I don't know why they were just freezing in different positions like that.

Between some songs most of the performers had a look on their faces like "What now?". I do like it that they added some more depth to the projections that looked blasé last year. I think that the show will get better with rehearsal. I would like to remind everyone that the show started off horribly last year. At least the sound was decent.

Monster Stomp on Ripper Row 2014 "Rap" #NeverForget

He did get better over time. Did you catch the understudy performing in the lead last year? I'll take him over either over either of the main rippers anytime.

The new male lead is light years ahead of last year's in terms of talent.

I agree 100%. I still think the "rap" needs to go. However they do it, the rap chisels away at his already lackluster character. This show still looks like a "battle of glitter and inspired classiness". I want the latter to win once and for all.

It is a constant insult in my opinion to the art of musicals. I think you should only sing to drive a story or have no story at all. I get impatient with the suspense and think "Aghh! Just kiss or kill her already! Stop singing about unrelated things."

I'm okay with the rap: I think it does have superfluous lines (relative to the show) dealing with fame. The following lines do seem to drive the story though.
" I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed
Get along with the voices inside of my head
You're trying to save me, stop holding your breath
And you think I'm crazy, yeah, you think I'm crazy."

I have a problem with Monster and the transition to Bring Me To Life which seems very abrupt but both songs' lyrics have the singers singing about saving them in terms which is apropos to their characters.

And thank you, choreographer who took out the horrible running to each other and running together bit which made me laugh and totally took me out of the show last year.
