RE: Minor Changes

Maybe were not going to get a re-theme but more of the same theme that is there. (I would love to see a spice restaurant called : The Spice Trail where La Cucina is now. Really would help with the Marco Polo celebration theme.) I actually spent a lot of time in this part of the park when I was a kid because of the rides. I think now is the time for a re-vamp.

I wouldn't be so quick to rule that out. The original plan/idea for Festa Italia was strikingly similar to the theme of Pantopia at BGT.
It was meant to be a hodge-podge of cultures from around the world, not just Europe. Sadly, there are two main reasons that didn't happen.
1)The park was constantly over capacity, and was desperate for a new area to relieve the congestion of the other hamlets. In other words, the whole area was literally/deliberately rushed.
2)That area was built around the time Larry Giles, VP of engineering, came along. Generally he tends to view trees as a pest, because they're hard to build around efficiently. Notice that any attraction added to the park since the mid-80's, except Ireland, pays no mind to any trees. There are a few small exceptions,(Alpengeist,Apollo's Chariot) but the only reason those rides have trees is because the manufacturer specifically offered to design around them.
I hope that they do a re-vamp, and show us what the area should have been like 20-some years ago.

Why is Loch Ness the only coaster without an official POV on the Busch Gardens website?

RE: Minor Changes

That's what I was afraid of. The only reason it's still here today is because it's a record-breaker and it's famous.

RE: Minor Changes

It was one of the only pieces of theming to actually fit Festa, so without it Festa is basically a road-side fair.

RE: Minor Changes

Also, this is probably temporary, but the pool in the middle of Pompeii's queue is empty. No water, just a bunch of ruins and oddly placed coins. I don't know, I kind of like it empty.

RE: Minor Changes

Yea, that's been like that for two weeks, it looks like they did that to clean it, because it was just looking right out dirty last year. But now that they've cleaned it, it's time to fill it back up. Also the ceiling fire effect still isn't working on Pompeii.

RE: Minor Changes

It was working when I rode it last season. How long has it been malfunctioning/nonoperational?

RE: Minor Changes

I actually asked about the possibility of their shutting down Nessie on our tour today. Our guide said it was possible in theory, but didn't seem to find it very likely. According to the maintenance staff, she runs very well and isn't showing a lot of wear and tear. In fact some her original parts are still in perfect running order. The description of her maintenance cycle was really impressive and rigorous.

RE: Minor Changes

Between low ridership, high maintenance, excessive downtime, and high operating costs, I would bet Pompeii is on BGW's short list for removal.

With that said, this thread is about minor changes.

RE: Minor Changes

Plus Pompeii is on prime real estate for the next park expansion, I wouldn't be surprised if it got picked over Festhaus park. There's very, very little things you can do with Nessie's current footprint if they were to tear it down.

RE: Minor Changes

OK y'all. I'd suggest moving this discussion. None of the Nessie discussion really has anything to do with "Minor Changes."
