One of the few truly fantastic moments I had in the UAE Emeriate, Fujairah (a true dirt hole) was when one of my ships was late to the pier. I waited several hours and lets just say there is not much to do in Fuj period, let alone at the terminal. The Navy security detachment had their dogs with them, and the handlers were playing with them while they waited for the boat. By hour number 2 I had good and truly used up everything I had with me for entertainment. (this was after all before smart phones) Anyhoo, a dogtoy found its way to my feet as did its intended recipient. The handler started laughing and said, "he wants you to throw it." I did and for the next 15 minutes I became the center of attention for 3 dogs all wearing body armor and doggie running shoes. Definitely not what I expected.

I would like to see them move the ticket scanners to the other side of the metal detectors like KD has them. It seemed like that configuration sped up the process of entering at KD.

Lines at the entrance gate did get absurd after a while. I entered around 11:20am and I got through in about 5 minutes. Was trying to redeem my free Photokey with my platinum pass at the photo booth in England later in the day and was told I had to go to one of the self-service stations to get the voucher and bring it back to the photo booth in England so I went out to the closest self-service booth I knew of which was the one just outside of the entrance gates. That was a mistake. The line to get back in the park was backed way up (this was around 3pm) so I just decided to go home rather than wait to get back in. Hopefully it was just bad timing and/or employees trying to get used to the new procedures and not something that's indicative of how it's going to be from now on.

You do realize that you weren’t exactly supposed to be let in if you had a Platinum Pass. Perfect example of the low amount of communication between management and front line employees.

The crowds were actually quite crazy this year. I saw parking backed up toward the interstate from Apollo around 1230 or so. I ended having to work this afternoon so I left the park a little after 1 and the lines on 60 in both directions were long and causing general traffic backup. I wonder how many of the issues with people who shouldn't have gotten in getting in came from the park being overwhelmed and trying to clear crowds as fast as possible. I mean you really don't want to be holding up a line 60 people deep to argue with one person about if they can enter on their old pass.

I know of 2 old passholders thet went in at ropedrop and another around 4pm. No questions asked. They got preferred parking and in park discounts. Military season passes (I dont really know what they call them) were not let in.

We were there when the gates were opened. I had all my stuff out of my pockets ready to go while in line. When they opened we moved forward and then I realized I needed to get my pass out first so had to through my stuff back in my pockets. Then after scanning my pass hurrily get it back out holding it all in my hands to go through the metal detector to only find out there were no baskets and was told to carry it through with me. So of course it went off, then was wanded and sent through. Only thing was I had forgot to get the rather large pack of lithiun batteries out of my pocket in that rush....of which the wand didnt even alarm on.

May I ask why exactly you were bringing in a large pack of lithium batteries?

Purely out of curiosity. I'm interested.

Unless they make some changes I think the metal detectors are going to slow things down a lot getting people in. When I went through them what I had set them off. I had my camera and keys in my hands but apparently my glasses case and some change and wallet were being picked up by the hand scanner. Had to tell the guy with the wand what was in my pockets before he let me through.

Did anyone later in the day see if they had baskets to put your things in or were they still making everyone carry everything through the scanner setting off the alarm? They werent any at rope drop so im courious?
