RE: Mäch Tower

In all honesty, I'm disappointed by the first announcement (I'm assuming there will be a second, since not all details about the tower were announced). For one, and this is disappointment I've felt since the height waiver was found, I wish the tower would be smaller and totally enclosed. Busch went with height, and they can't even get the tallest in the region. Seems like a waster to me. Second, I hate the name. I was really hoping that the name would not include the words "drop" or "tower." Plus, it doesn't seem upon to great themeing, which is important to me. I wish Griffon would have been something entirely different just to have the tower be themed to Griffon.

Now that I think about it, this 2012 coaster better be good. Everything BGW has added since DK has really underwhelmed me. Plus, this ride may be the last new coaster I get to ride before the world ends, thanks to Nostradomus and the Mayans.

RE: Mäch Tower

I don't believe in that stuff, and i dont think you need to worry. (Imagine what will be happening the night before Dec. 21, people will be going insane, even if they don't believe in the Apocalypse, and that will be how our world will end. Insanity)

RE: Mäch Tower

I've never been a fan of tower rides like this. Tower of Terror at Disney Studios being the only one I really enjoy. I was dissapointed in the apparent lack of theming as well. It seems there won't be any kind of enclosed section. Also, the name alone seems kinda lame. "Mach Tower" really?... That's the best the marketing wizards could come up with? It sounds as if they had a list of names and let some random executive pick it.

Anywho...

The tower seems like just another "C" ticket installation that could be anywhere. I hope it's not as spartan and ugly as it sounds like it could be.

On a lesser note I hope they relocate or leave the oktoberfest poles. (the 30 foot tall ones with the figures on them) They've been relegated to an odd spot over near the smoking section (ick) since they moved the entry bridge and the Der Whirblewind.

I don;t know if this was mentioned but if you go to Intamin's website they have a rotating drop tower with tilting seats listed, and a video of a rotating drop as well.

Neat concept, but butt ugly...

I don't believe in that either. I was totally making fun of it, in fact.

Oldtimer, I couldn't agree more, the name sucks and this sounds like a less than amazing attraction. I just don't have many good things to say about this drop tower, so I'll try not to talk about it anymore.

RE: Mäch Tower

That's why I haven't been saying anything Franco. Ever since DarKastle, the themeing quality at the park has gone into a free-fall (no pun intended), as has the ride quality. The new rides don't have stories anymore- they don't feel like they belong at Busch Gardens. Whenever I walk pass Griffon or through Ireland, I still get the feeling that the park isn't doing as well as it once was. It is almost depressing. Now they somehow ended up with the idea that they should take one of the nicest places in the park and "re-imagine" it. From their recent track record, I don't like this idea. :( Now notice, I said the ride quality has dropped. Over the last few years what they have done with Howl-O-Scream, Christmas Town, Illuminights, Celtic Fyre, etc. has been great. Something just needs to change in the ride concept areas... And fast.

Oldtimer, see the announcement thread. The drop tower is from Moser. ;)

RE: Mäch Tower

Yeah, Swifty.. I just read that.
Wierd though.. Intamin's site shows a tower that does all the things they mentioned ours will, and the video still looks one dimensional...

One trick rides are fine for infill, but this will not be a major draw in the long term. I only hope that they theme it more than it looked like they will. A sign and a paint job are not theming (See KD or any Six Flags park).

I don't want them to lose their status as "most beautiful park".

They have taken a huge step backward with the Festhaus Clock thing and Ireland's repaint. I pray they don't take the same approach with the new Oktoberfest. Busch Gardens "The Old Country" is still a great idea. I don't want a modern version of Europe, I want the romantisized version. and that goes for the terrible idea of "updating" the BGM in France and Oktoberfest. Euro-pop just does not fit in.

Please BGE - don't "update" Oktobrefest...

RE: Mäch Tower

everybody is looking at Mach Tower the wrong way..this is not meant to be a DK kind of themed ride here with massive special effects and an entire area dedicated to it.....its a FLAT. i think people are forgetting that here. im looking at this as we are getting a renovated oktoberfest along with a new flat and then in 2012 we get a fantastic new roller coaster which is the main attraction for the area.

RE: Mäch Tower

You guys cheer up. We could be getting nothing. Did you not hear the man talk about beer, more games, and pretzels!? We will be having fun!

RE: Mäch Tower

I'm excited about ALL the changes that are coming. In the video with John Reilly, he said that there are going to be thematic elements on the tower and that the new structures being built were going to be surrounding the base. It sounds to me like the park is making an effort to go back to the heavy theming of the past. Are drop towers the most exciting rides? No, but it is an additional ride.

I'm looking forward to drinking lots of beers beside the tower also.

RE: Mäch Tower

The new perspectives of BG the tower will give is going to be amazing.

ALSO, if anyone is familiar with how maypoles play into the traditon of Bavarian Germany, the tower makes
a lot more since. It not only stands as a ride, but itself creates a theme with historical meaning.

RE: Mäch Tower

Personallly, I can not wait for the upcoming 2011/2012 season. I think It is going to be a big positive step in BGW's future. Personally I would of much rather enjoyed a new B&M, but I do not mind an Intamin. I have never disliked one of there rides, and if Busch is correct it will be a ride that has never been seen before. Just the thought of that sends shivers down my spine.

RE: Mäch Tower

I too wish the theming would be better. I was expecting an enclosure of some sort, at least around the base of the tower. What I don't get is the name. What is the significance of the name "Mach Tower?" Does mach mean something in German?

RE: Mäch Tower

Mach does in fact mean something in german. google it. Let me know what you think about the name when you find it out.

RE: Mäch Tower

The tower is a theme in and of itself.

Its a giant Maypole. They a are rich part of German history and tradition.

Even the seating structure will resemble the tops of maypoles.

Mach is a unit of speed, named after an Austrian physicist who resided in Germany.

RE: Mäch Tower

You know one thing we could consider is that Maypoles have strings that people pull up and down... what if sections of seats go up and down at different times?

RE: Mäch Tower

Now that would be cool, Nora. The suspense of tower rides don't really exist for me, as they are all predictable and similar. But legitimately not knowing when it would happen would be great. Assuming, of course, that it's never the same.
