RE: Mäch Tower

Can anybody confirm/deny the rumor that MT will be open during CT as an Observation tower only?

I can't exactly "confirm" that it will be an observation tower only, but there is a major possibility. When I was at the park for the Grand Opening of Mach Tower, I asked my friend (a ride op for the ride) if he could confirm the rumors that it will be an observation tower, but all he told me was "I don't know exactly if they will do that because I haven't been told that we are doing it during Christmas Town, but I do know there are two ride cycles: one that is the usual, and one that brings the car up all the way while spinning which goes down slowly and spins on the way down." He also said that the minimum temp for the ride is 32 degrees (I believe that is what he said). The max is 110. I'm hoping for an amazing observation tower during CT this year!

RE: Mäch Tower

I think the "observation" ride cycle for CT would be lovely! Really a nice, nice addition to the CT lineup. That said, today I rode MT for the first time -- well, 3x actually <s> -- and I really liked it. Nice mild/moderate thrill, an enjoyable ride, repeatable to me for the view and the drop. Just a fun experience, something not as thrilling as a coaster but more thrilling than, say, most flat rides. Really too bad for the park's sake it didn't open on time to help with this year's attendance.

ETA: GREAT time at the park today -- arrived shortly after the rides reopened per FB and staff reports. I don't know if the crowd was already moderate or if it emptied after the quake but we had a nice time. Longest wait for MT was 20-25 mins; short wait for the coasters; other rides were practically walkons.

RE: Mäch Tower

So I rode it yesterday, going up was fun. The vibrating was just... well... odd. And going down was fun for the few seconds it lasted.

As far as a drop tower, it sucked. But as far as an addition for the park, it is great.

These are my thoughts exactly. Terrible drop tower, great attraction.

RE: Mäch Tower

^ Agreed. I rode it for the first (and second) time yesterday and can sum the experience up in one word.

Underwhelming.

I wonder if the slow descent/early braking choices were made in lieu of all the problems...

RE: Mäch Tower

I realize that, but don't you think there are varied settings built in to the design?
ie - When the Battering Ram first opened it went WAY higher than it goes today.

RE: Mäch Tower

The only difference I could see is if they remove some metal fins and increase the strength of the magnets on the drop car. But that's quite an overhaul. I'm not sure if there's something built in the drop car magnet brakes that would allow it to be adjusted, it's possible though.

Wonder what it'll look like during Irene...

Pisa?

They'll probably have the camera turned off, but it would be cool to be able to watch the storm.

RE: Mäch Tower

I rode Mach Tower for the first time yesterday. It really wasn't that bad. I think it was a good addition to the park. But, as drop towers go it definitely isn't the best, but it is unique. Which I like.

My friend was riding with me, and when it started shaking at the top she thought it was breaking and she started screaming. It was hilarious.
