Are there any good pictures of the base of the tower?

I dunno but I'm bout ready to drive down there right now if DC Pride wasn't this weekend haha

@Shafor: I enjoy detective work just as much as I like stirring things up ;)

RE: Mäch Tower

I think we might be just talking semantics here. Wouldn't "deceleration ramps" just be a form of a shock absorber? I imagine the ramps are like petals that fan out towards the bottom with some give to slow the car to a comfortable stop. These could be built inside the tower and use some type of high tension cushioning system. Just guessing obviously, but that's just what I see in my head when I read that phrase.

Well I think people here thought they'd be installing shock absorbers. The fact that Moser doesn't seem to use them at all is significant. But I think you're right. They are in the tower itself.

So basically, they were testing with all safety mechanisms in place (which is what I've thought from the beginning).

Also, the Moser site does say its fail-safe....but quite obviously no. No they aren't.

RE: Mäch Tower

Well I've been trying to look at all the pictures of the base of the tower, but I'm a little stumped since I haven't been able to see it in person. It looks like the fins are installed on every section except for the very bottom. There's a place to install, them but they don't look like they're there. But those were from all the construction pics. And from all the other operational pics I can't see if they're there or not. Anybody notice those fins being there the last 10-15 feet?

Besides that I don't see anything different at the base of the tower to explain what deceleration ramps are. Maybe they're built into the supporting structure of the ride carriage? If I had to guess though I would think a deceleration ramp would be that the fins at the base get physically thicker to fill up the gaps between the magnets. So maybe the missing fins that weren't installed initially were the deceleration ramps because they had to be installed after the ride carriage was lifted above them.

RE: Mäch Tower

Why do we keeping thinking they tested the ride without the fail safe mechanism installed? Especially when a fail safe mechanism would be most useful during the testing to see if something goes wrong?

A malfunction is much more likely (remember, fail safe does not always = fail safe).

RE: Mäch Tower

For an example look at the structure that supports the seats that swift put up a while ago:

Those yellow pieces should be the magnets that grab on to the fins on the way down unless I'm horrible mistaken.

RE: Mäch Tower

I've been told by multiple people that it could be months (with an "s") before Mach Tower opens. If someone could confirm or deny this, would you mind PMing me?

Busch is DEFINATELY NOT working with Moser again. It doesnt matter if the tower was a prototype or not, if it has an opening date 2 or 3 months after the planned opening date, I dont think they will count on Moser anymore.

RE: Mäch Tower

My question would be Who is paying for the damaged parts and the lost revenue from the ride not being operational?

If they had a price break and made aware it could happen from the beginning then that might not be the case

Actually, it does matter if it's a prototype or not. Let's look at "The Bat" From kings island. It was a prototype Arrow suspended coaster and was rarely open. Both the guests and the employees understood this. Kings Island later worked with Arrow again and built Vortex, a great Multi-Inverting coaster. So, there still is a good chance that Busch could still work with Moser.

RE: Mäch Tower

Yeah but busch has had one intamin ride (escape from Pompeii) and its has had lots of problems and now busch refuses to work with intamin. and the battering ram which was built by intamin doesnt really have problems (not that i know of). so whats the difference with moser? and plus cedar fair is just always looking for new rides it seems. Its like they dont care what it is or who makes it as long as it draws more people in to the park.

RE: Mäch Tower

The Battering Ram has its share of problems as well. It probably has more downtime than any of the other flats in the park.

The difference is Pompeii was not a proto. It is a standard flume that they have done for years. From my understanding the effects are not Intamin and have only typical effects problems.
