There was a story recently in the news that the mysterious and highly fatal bird disease has started moving farther south in recent weeks. I wonder if they decided that till more information is know about it that it's best to remove them from the outdoor habitats.

@belsaas YAY! Good news.

@horsesboy WHAT?? I had no idea there was a bird disease epidemic! Thanks for sharing. I live out in the country, and just this past week, I was sitting outside and I thought... "It sounds creepy... Why does it sound creepy out here?" And after I thought about it a while, I realized there was no birdsong. I thought it was really strange, but the only theory I had was that the birds had left because we just got an outdoor cat this year. Nope... They're all sick. So sad.
Well, hopefully, since Lorikeets are not songbirds, and not native to this area, maybe they will be spared. ❤️

It's largely been confined to Nova and point North but yes there have been a rash of bird deaths and bird sick with a so far undetermined disease. It seems to only effect song birds and not the larger carnivore birds.. They have not positively confirmed It's contagious as one of the theories is that it's toxic related to the Cicata return. But at the begging on July there was a news article that talked about several possible cases in Richmond which would be to far south to be directly related to the Cicatas. I don't know if that was while they were pulled for a short time or not but they are back now and the timing just seemed to match.
