RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

It seems we must wait out the cosmic lottery to see what taste level befalls Banbury Cross next year.

Freddie Mercury belongs everywhere, as do the Beatles. The song they sang during Blood Banquet was about being a drag queen. What does that have to do with Busch Gardens? But everyone loved it right? At least "The cool kids" did. Why is the Black Forest in the middle of Oktoberfest when Munich is 200 miles away? Why do they serve American domestic beer in these countries? I have no problem with any of this, but quit choosing what is OK and not OK with themeing. The park was never themed correctly. NEVER!

I wasn't taking any side... just posing a question.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

If you don't care about theme (which is fine) why get upset when other people do? The park has never been 100% authentic and people know that. What's important is whether or not something fits with the rules that the park has established over the years. BB worked because it was a cheesy vampire thing and so a certain level of cheese (Something the park would do more since they fail at a serious HoS, but I digress) is acceptable.

I'm fine with the music for the tree if they made it feel Christmas-y.

I think some of the issue is that there does not appear to be consistency in the logic.

I am actually a big fan of theming. I have never had so much as a cocktail hour without some kind of theme. I think a well themed event is a million times better, and I am willing to spend money to get the details right. (You should have seen my Harry Potter party.)

That said, I do not personally have the emotional energy to waste on debates about shrubbery in an amusement park. So, I generally stay out of these discussions. I know how I would do it, and I understand bureaucracies well enough to know that their decision making is not going to get them to the same place.

What I do find a bit frustrating is the inconsistency in logic and affect. If you are passionate about the theming, shouldn't you be consistently passionate about the theming? Just because you prefer Classic Rock to Top 40, for example, does not make it a better fit for Ireland. In my opinion, neither should have been played outside in Killarney.

I am not looking for a debate about this. Just wanted to voice a different perspective.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

There are "rules" for everything theming. Classic rock fits the theme of the area because they changed the area itself to "Freakistonia" like a terrortory that is based off the show.

Top 40 is just there and doesn't have anything to do with the theme of the area (Which is still Killarney, which is an old fashion Irish town) or the special event (a celebration of magic and lights).

What's important to look at is what the area is supposed to be at that time. If they had made Ireland into a modern dance club thing (BGW, please don't do this) then the top 20 would be better.

There is a lot of theory when it comes down to proper theme park theming. It's not as simple as a coat of paint.

I was sitting in the Globe Theater, I distinctly remember them playing Christmas-y music from the British Invasion. I wasn't just straight up a bunch of British songs, they were all Christmas-y or most of them were. I sat there for a good ten to twenty minutes listening.

Anyways, the fact that the music was Christmas-y and fit the new oncoming theme of the theater I would say it fits pretty well. We shall see where the park goes with this. It may be good but it may be bad. So far its looking good.

I have a feeling that this conversation is horrendously muddied. It seems that a third of you are talking about the tree as it relates to Christmas Town, another third how it relates to the park, and yet another third about the Banbury re-theme/London Rocks. Maybe we should start clarifying. :p

I think the tree is fine in the frame of Christmas Town- in fact, I think it's clever advertisement for an upcoming show product. That said, once broken out of the frame of Christmas Town, my existing predictions and opinions stand.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

This was posted to the park's auditions site. I'm sorry.

BUSCH GARDENS ENTERTAINMENT with the support of BOB CLINE CASTING is happy to announce auditions for the 2014 Season for Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The award-winning Busch Gardens takes great pride and care in the direction the Entertainment department is headed. The new shows, with more to come, have the spirit of mini Broadway musicals and the show stopping energy of shows you may see in Vegas.

I figure I'd throw this out there, but has anyone read the consent forms for auditioning? This one as a huge bold all caps section.
