RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Well they ran an audition listing for the show this year, so I wouldn't be worried about it not returning. https://www.backstage.com/casting/busch-gardens-williamsburg-2016-spring-season-102170/

I wonder if the wedding scene is being cut. Aside from rumors, notice that in Celtic Fyre they have the lead in to "Let's Dance" copied exactly. I know some people like Octopus's Garden, but I would not mind it being cut. Aside from scenes that were obviously forced, last years show flowed from one song to the next.

That's what I want. Little to no dialogue, but to the point where some story can be made out. I like using my imagination with this show, but can understand how others may feel uncomfortable with thinking artistically.

For this show to be a hit, they need to find some balance between imagination and what they spell out (not by adding pathetic voiceovers like they did mid-2014). Unfortunately, I think the entire nature of the show is way more than most people can/want to grasp.

I don't know what to say. I have a more comprehensive review, but I'm going to hold off a bit. It was all a bit of a mess but one thing amazed me in the worst of ways:

I must say that I don't think that suicide, or thoughts of such is ever an appropriate subject matter (main plot or sub-plot) for a family show. This year, they decided to add the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody. What's more; they did it in a slow, passionate Broadway-style and only played the most questionable lyrics. Here is a piece of the lyrics.
Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth

Lucy sang this bit in front of a bridge overlooking water. Then her friends appeared as they started a reprise of "Help!" "Hard Day's Night" and "Under Pressure", in order to show her that people still care about her. It was very clear what this was about. Unbelievable.

Here are photos to narrate.

I think it's worth mentioning that to buy time for missing songs; they played the two-minute medley of "Help!/Hard Day's Night"twice. Both had the same arrangements, they just left out "Under Pressure" the second time.

The first time was wedged into the record shop scene. The people needed "help" so desperately because they wanted to buy a new record. The second time was after the Lucy's depression. I don't think they should have done a reprise like that anyway. If they need to do it twice, I think "Under Pressure" would be more appropriate for the second time (convincing a friend not to do something rash).

The new transition to Space Odyssey was strange but cool. They launch a plane and fly past the Statue of Liberty, which was clapping together glow sticks along with "We Will Rock You" and American flags. That leads into the finale, which is a replica of the first year, minus the elaborate costumes.

I don't think I understand adding American jingoism to "London Rocks."

I haven't seen it yet, but being that there is an airplane and everything, I believe it is supposed to represent the cultural diffusion of British rock to America.

also in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, we took lighters to concerts. no glow sticks or cell phones. (cell phone waving is horse shit by the way)

Maybe I'm not remembering how bad the past two years of LR were, but this undoubtedly topped them both (if that's even possible). Unfortunately I was able to pick out a story line. Lucy gets accepted into the rock band, where they expose her to acid and all sorts of drugs. After that there's some cult thing among the guys of the band, I'm fairly certain they may have been alluding to date rape. Then the popularity of the band grows and she contemplates suicide, but one of her buddies comes to talk her out of it. I'm also fairly certain they create a suicide pact, they even "pinky promise" on it. Finally, the band goes on tour to America which is the finale. The costumes during the finale are especially atrocious. There also appeared to be some transgender references in the finale. (not sure if it was intentional or not :/)

A lot of the projections are re-used from 2014, but there are also a fair share of new ones (more unnecessary money down the drain).

I would discuss issues of lip-syncing, but I am above and beyond done with this show.

tl;dr: London Rocks 2016 is next level shittiness, with tons of questionable topics. Don't waste your time. The park needs to kill it with a shovel. Now.
