RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

This show is excellent compared to the shows at KD.  I visited both parks last week and have to say that LR and every other show at BGW is amazing.  My wife and I were shocked at how awful the shows at KD are.  Why even offer shows when they are worse than a high school production.  LR is not perfect but it is very entertaining, which is the point of the show.  You can tell a lot of money was spent on LR.  True, the money could have been spent on more important things, but I was very impressed with how the show was put together.  So glad I can count on BGW for great shows.

"London Rocks" is what you get when you dress up a cheap plastic mannequin in a custom-tailored Saville Row suit: a dummy in very expensive threads. To me it's painful watching those talented people up there desperately polishing a golden turd. My opinion, of course. And I say all this as someone who likes most of the music that's included in the show.

Yes, KD's shows are more modest than BGW's shows; they always have been. But KD has recently done a lot to improve their entertainment and will, I assume, continue to improve in the future. On the positive side, KD's shows aren't the poorly-managed, budget-draining bloatware that BGW has been staging the last few years. And KD has also been treating their performers well, unlike how they're currently treated at BGW: as props.

And I certainly hope you weren't including the KD Clown Band in your "worse than high school" insult, because if you were, you're going to be on the receiving end of a very angry and unpleasant emoticon!

London Rocks and KD40 on stage are very similar in quality. KD40 on stage just doesn't have the quality of projections. Other than that KD40 on stage has better puppets, same music mixing quality, same costume quality, and in my opinion better talent.

Every show I've walked past at the International Street stage has made me cringe and run away. I particularly dislike when they interrupt my fountain and light zen.

The Peanuts thing in front of the tower did send me into a tizzy. But then again, I have an irrational hate of Snoopy and his annoying and redundant friends.... I just want to punch Charlie Brown!

I am not trying to hijack this thread; so I am only going to make a few statements and include one video clip. You can go to the Kings Dominion entertainment forums to get a more in depth discussion concerning the entertainment history of the park.

1) During the Family Leisure/Taft/KECO years [1975-1992], park entertainment was on par with what Busch Gardens offered (performer talent, musicians, show production quality).

2) Under the Paramount era [1993-2006], the park chain entertainment division, Kings Production, was eliminated; we went from 11-12 show productions during the prime summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) to maybe 3-4 shows. (Children's and adult shows combined); KD lost 3 show facilities during that time.

3) Cedar Fair took over. The former management was not entertainment centric and was more focused on rides. New management is more entertainment focused. Have gotten more entertainment and increase in the quality/quantity of performers in the last 2-3 seasons. Show production quality is still low budget and needs more investment for higher quality productions (more/elaborate set pieces; a little larger cast; more musicians to accompany the singer/dancers; more/better show facilities).

Here is a clip of the 1991 show "Dancing in the City" (opening number). Played in what is now the Kings Dominion theater. THIS is the level of show quality I would like to see return to the park.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Saw the show for the first time (and maybe last)...wasn't very impressed. It seems like the queen parts would be very offensive to an actual British person. I couldn't understand half of what she was saying either (especially in the end parts). The puppets seemed way out of place. And to put it delicately...they had some singers wearing shorts who really, really should not be.

The live Queen at the end leaves me in tears every time. That actress needs to go into comedy immediately. Seriously just watch her expressions during the finale - she knows its a shaky ending so she just goes for it.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

I have mixed feeling about this show. I think it is a good concept it is just in the wrong park. It is too modern to be in the old world busch gardens. I think it has a talented cast that performs very well. I don't like the puppets and their little aquarium visit and I don't like how their songs intermingle. It gives me a headache. I don't like the queen. With her being portrayed as a monty python character it is very insulting to her. I'm offended by it and I'm not even british! At parts at the end I can't even understand her! If anything get rid of the octopus's garden part. I felt like I was watching bubble guppies.

Saw the show again not too long ago. I still enjoyed it. The audio is fixed now so I can actually hear the vocals this time. The rest of the show is largely the same with the minor tweaks Matt stated in a previous post.

My parents saw it for the first time too. They enjoyed it even more than they enjoyed Mix it Up and TIO.

- Am I the only one that actually likes the puppets in the show? I think the scenes they're in are rather poorly executed, but the puppetry is actually one of my favorite parts of the show lol.
