RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)
Sadly, I don't think there was a single change to the show that I liked. One of the most common complaints about the show was/is that the songs don't flow very well together. This is why it boggles me even more that they added the terrible dialogue. One thing that makes this terrible dialogue worse, is that none of factors, as far as I know can even do a good British accent. In the last cast thought I saw (I don't remember which one it was), their accents sounded more New Jersey-esque.
I can't believe that I am actually in full agreement with Nicole (No offense, Nicole.), but even though I love theater, and I have seen some of the tackiest things, I hate the dialogue.
Another problem, is that in an attempt to make the "story "more clear, they make everything much more exaggerated. For example: in the first "drug scene" a guy sniffs the cellophane rose for seven seconds. Also, in the wedding scene, the kissing is much more exaggerated. And for the record, I had no problem with the kissing to begin with. After all, Disney always has much bigger kissing scenes, and we all turn a blind eye to it.
The problem is, that probably the two most common objections to the show were completely ignored. As a result, they made those objections much worse than they were to start with. It almost seems like the park is just trying to make those people mad and say "Forget you, we don't care". This, once again shows an incredible inability to focus on more than one issue at a time. You can blame Scott, or whoever you like, but I think one is just as bad as the other in this case. Jason Kantrowitz, the producer, could be his twin as far as style and taste. I am pretty sure that we are doomed as far as the music is concerned. Sadly, the musical director also runs the show "Wicked". I love that show, but the only problem with it is that the music flows horribly. By now, he probably forgot what a flowing musical sounds like.
I could go on and on about this, but I think this is enough for anyone to read. Remember that I was one of the few that liked it at the start, but not anymore. All I can do is hope that it will change for the better.
