RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Sadly, I don't think there was a single change to the show that I liked. One of the most common complaints about the show was/is that the songs don't flow very well together. This is why it boggles me even more that they added the terrible dialogue. One thing that makes this terrible dialogue worse, is that none of factors, as far as I know can even do a good British accent. In the last cast thought I saw (I don't remember which one it was), their accents sounded more New Jersey-esque.
I can't believe that I am actually in full agreement with Nicole (No offense, Nicole.), but even though I love theater, and I have seen some of the tackiest things, I hate the dialogue.

Another problem, is that in an attempt to make the "story "more clear, they make everything much more exaggerated. For example: in the first "drug scene" a guy sniffs the cellophane rose for seven seconds. Also, in the wedding scene, the kissing is much more exaggerated. And for the record, I had no problem with the kissing to begin with. After all, Disney always has much bigger kissing scenes, and we all turn a blind eye to it.

The problem is, that probably the two most common objections to the show were completely ignored. As a result, they made those objections much worse than they were to start with. It almost seems like the park is just trying to make those people mad and say "Forget you, we don't care". This, once again shows an incredible inability to focus on more than one issue at a time. You can blame Scott, or whoever you like, but I think one is just as bad as the other in this case. Jason Kantrowitz, the producer, could be his twin as far as style and taste. I am pretty sure that we are doomed as far as the music is concerned. Sadly, the musical director also runs the show "Wicked". I love that show, but the only problem with it is that the music flows horribly. By now, he probably forgot what a flowing musical sounds like.

I could go on and on about this, but I think this is enough for anyone to read. Remember that I was one of the few that liked it at the start, but not anymore. All I can do is hope that it will change for the better.

Since the changes, the part where they all used to get really close to Lucy and Guy, is now obviously a symbol of drug use. It used to be a very, very subtle one. But now they all get really close to Lucy and Guy, and then when they part, they're faces are loopy, and they legitimately look high. I guess Lucy, Guy and the Flowers represented drugs, because now every time the rest of the cast gets near any of them, they come away acting loopy, and high.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Yes. I don't see some kissing as a big deal, but I can see total justification for a drug tripping scene. Even if it's not, there's a problem when a large chunk of the audience thinks it is. Maybe I should take a trip to Colorado, watch it, and make some sort of lame hashtag trend.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Love the pictures, CK! I got to see the show in person for the first time yesterday, and I have a big post incoming about it. Some may be surprised to hear what my thoughts are on it. ;)

Out of curiosity, is the cast above the "wild" cast or the "mellow" cast? The cast you pictured is who I had yesterday, and I'm wondering which one they were. Thanks!

If they are the same as when the show first started, I would think that this is the "yellow" cast. I have seen some shifting around but I dunno if it was fill-ins or what.

Mellow should be the tall girl in a yellow dress with the blonde singer friend.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

I have noticed in some shows, last weekend for example, there were the same cast members in the shows doing different roles. I don't know about today as I only watched one show.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

I have watched London Rocks a few times since the most recent major re-working sometime last weekend. During each of those performances, I have been carefully observing critiquing the changes. If you look a few posts back, you will find that I was not fond of the changes at all. The biggest reason    for that opinion, was that I believed the changes ruined the flow of the show.

Some of the changes seem to help the flow for most people. That is mostly because the performers have gotten used to the changes since then. That being said, I still stand by my previous statement that I hate the dialogue with a burning passion. The audience seems to be reacting a bit more to some parts of the show. The problem is, I can't tell whether people are laughing because they are uncomfortable with the tackiness, or because they actually think it's funny.

I somewhat like it that they give a reason now for Lucy falling in love. The only problem with this, is that in the theater, not everything needs to have a reason. When you have a show that is limited to 30 minutes, you really don't have time to explain things like that. All of that should've been easily understandable from the start. If it isn't, the writers have failed to properly communicate with the audience.

Right from the start, when Lucy is going through the crowd, she is now saying to the English business people "excuse me, pardon me ".  Then they look at her, and she awkwardly says "Have a sunshiny day." Not only did that line come out of nowhere, but it was already obvious enough that Lucy was supposed to be the special character out of that group. There are at least eight people on stage wearing the same costume, except for Lucy who is wearing a bright yellow raincoat. They didn't need to go any further with this. At this point, it is still a mystery as to who this person is.

The dialogue with Lucy's mother talking to her about "daydreaming to that racket " seems to work quite well now, because the sound design makes it sound like her mother is actually British, and offstage. This is only acceptable, because it gives you her name. After the song is over, the dialogue repeated the second time makes it seem very awkward. Other than that, the voice-overs in general are terrible. The car ride voice over sounds way too aggressive, and not at all "fatherly". The voice over/sound change that gets me the most is probably the concert. The voice-over sounds very annoying, and not at all like an announcer for a rock concert. Also, they now have some kind of different Equalizer setting during the concert performance. This is to make it actually sounds like the concert. The problem is, generally, concerts sound terrible. They put in so much money for this show, especially for the sound. I think it's a terrible waste to mess it up to make the so-called "storyline" more clear.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Saw the show today for the first time. There were a few things I really liked and a few things I didn't. 8 year old nephew enjoyed it.

Since a lot of people seem to love hating the show, I'll list the cons first.

- The whole underwater scene feels so awkward and out of place. What's with Entertainment and using school mascots as part of the show? The bubbles and non-mascot visuals were great though.
- The audio is terrible. I had trouble hearing the vocals throughout most of the show. They need to tone the music down. I understand they're trying to go for a concert motif, but it doesn't really work when you can't hear half the lyrics.
- The projection screens look like they're better suited for a 3D show. They looked really blurry and off at times.

The pros
- Music selection is fantastic and mixed pretty well. I really enjoyed it.
- The production values are amazing. I loved seeing all the props and visuals. Even with some of the tackiness and cheese thrown in.
- I love how the park re-purposed some of the Pirates effects into the show. It was a nice touch.

The OK's
- The scene with the puppets was alright. I felt it could've been cut or changed. The actors looked pretty energetic though and the puppetry was pretty cool. Maybe utilize them for something else.
- Not sure if I really cared about the non-musical selections. The segments with the Queen didn't really come off as "offensive" to me. Just really corny.

The show doesn't really feel "done" yet. It could use a few more tweaks. Music-wise, its up there with Celtic Fyre, but show-wise I'd say its about average. Compared to the Beatles tribute show I saw on a few Carnival ships I sailed, I'd say its a little worse if not on-par.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

I finally saw this show. (Took me long enough) Overall, I enjoyed the show. The theater was packed. Like sardines. The only part I would get rid of is the octopus garden. I felt like I was watching the wiggles. The puppets were weird. I didn't have any problems with the dialogue. I also sat in the back to see the theater. I didn't see anyone leave throughout the show (until the end of course) I like the show. Brought back s lot of memories for me. Also, Scott wad behind us at the end of the show. Did not look happy...

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

That's actually a really rare occurance. Even though we all know he's evil in the inside, he's usually always happy on the outside. I've never seen him without a smile, to be honest.
