Let's take a step back for a moment. The park hasn't always been heavily themed to Europe. Until the early/mid 2000's the park's entertainment frequently featured non-European themed shows. Does anyone remember the earlier shows in the Globe Theatre and Abbystone Theater. They were straight out of Broadway and Vaudeville. Respected and missed shows like the Starlight Orchestra, the Boogie Band, Kinetix and American Jukebox had nothing to do with Europe. Country shows and Elvis themed shows also frequented the Canadian Palladium during the 1980's 90's and 2000's.
As for contgemporary pop music, in the early 2000's there was a nighttime show that utilized pop music and hip-hop dance on a contemporary stage with contemporary lighting right in the middle of England across from Big Ben. I remember enjoying it as a "finale" to the night.
During all these examples, AB owned the park and everyone loved it. It was the glory days that everyone is longing for now.
I'm not fairly able to defend Killarney Commotion because I haven't seen it, and there is plenty I am disappointed about the park this year, especially the closure of Europe In the Air and the cutbacks to Illuminights, but I do think it's unfair to criticize the park for doing something they have done successfully many times in the past, that is utilize American music from many eras, even pop music, in a European themed park.
