RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

First of all, I grew up in the 80s and I know it isn't the Old Country anymore. I found that comment offensive as it is not a requirement to grow up in the 70s and 80s to prefer the atmosphere of "Europe" in general. Besides, I resent being called "old". Old is a state of mind.. it is how you relate to others and refuse to see the perspective of a younger generation. And there is nothing wrong in loving what you grew up with. Hopefully everyone here is lucky enough to live to the point in life when you are able to say "Remember when."

The fact is, that I understand the desire to change and move the park to a new era. However, there is a time and place for everything. The show Killarney Kommotion wasn't horrible, it was just out of place. It seemed more of a Howl-O-Scream show and not "Ireland." It ruins the atmosphere of where the show is located.

Of course people like the music, of course people dance to the tunes.. even I was tapping my feet to the beat- but is it really appropriate for a theme park in the middle of a European village that replicates "Old World Ireland?" Not really.

I think many people here worry about what the show signifies- and that is not the music but a turn to make the park more "pop culture." The well themed Hamlets of Busch Gardens are timeless. They stand for the historical beauty of Europe. If the park changes to reflect the culture to fit Lady Gaga on a daily basis.. this will be lost in the shuffle.

Why even have a theme?

If this show was inside a theater, I doubt anyone here would have a serious resentment about it. The fact is, when you are walking through a Hamlet designed to be "old" and the music does not mesh.. it is such a painful crash of styles.

There could have been a happy medium to modern music and Ireland... however, no one took the time to figure that out.

Ah but it does and we are at a stalemate. Honestly, I love some type of summer event and Illuminights is extremely far from perfect, but it is something and it keep people content except for the enthusiasts that like to dig deep down into the theme and stuff.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Fun is possible in a lot of different ways, I point out again that THE PARK HAS NEVER NEEDED TO USE TWEEN POP IN THE PAST FOR FUN! The fact that the park is pandering to the lowest common denominator in order to sell it's brand is a very bad thing. Do you know what "lowest common denominator" means? It means that your lowering the threshold, in this case, of entertainment quality, in order to try to appeal to people. This means that the park has thrown out all of it's class, everything that made it special to pander to those who are unable to be entertained by the park previously and this is a VERY DANGEROUS precedent. If you seriously need tween pop to have fun at a theme park, then you should not be going to the world's most beautiful theme park.

So Illuminights is just an excuse for BGW to act like KD in your mind...
This, so much this. KD has no bars of quality, they have no standards for what is acceptable. BGW has always been different until now.

So please enlighten me on what you think Illuminights really is and what they should be doing.
While I agree that Illuminights should not exist, the way the did it before, Acrobats, Can-Can Dancers, everything old world and magical not, just putting in songs simply because they're popular.

Most people don't care about Illuminights in general. They go to the park and say "Oh Illuminights? What's that?"

Following CK's suggestion, I will post my answer to PR's "What do you think Illuminights should be?" question. My answer is right out in the open: Illuminations. Lights. Sparkles. Blinding lasers. Ok, maybe not that last one. :) Illuminights to me is about lights and being bright, and finishing the day off with a bang (literally). Can Illuminights be improved? YES! But Either way it is still a fun experience to get out with the family and enjoy looking a lights and giant bugs. Still don't see the point of those. So, yeah. That's it.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

So for 2 months, the park can take away from the entire experience that BGW provided during the main season? Also remember the next two months are when new visitors travel to the park most. So they will have their first visit to BGW as an amusement park.

Busch Gardens is a theme park and should stick to a theme. HOS provides a theme. The main season has a theme. Illuminights? Where did it go? Forgot. Busch can apparently rip out any sort of theme and care and throw in what they want for two months and throw money down the drain.

This is what amusement parks are for. They can get away with it. Busch Gardens is a theme park and no matter what they do, they should stick to a theme. Not just throw something together without care of thought. If Scott or whoever helps him provide these types of things, then i'm sure KD will happily employ them to do so.

Now remember I haven't seen this event and by the sounds of it; I can go to KD to see it, but from what i've read so far has built the opinions that I just wrote.

I can see the point of the bugs and frog and turtles and snails and what not...it has a theme, but everyone seems to choose to ignore it. The theme is "A Garden of Light". What do you find in gardens? insects and reptiles and such. What do you find in a garden of light? Insects and reptiles and such that have glowing a$$es. They put "A Garden of Light" on the Rhine River bridge.

GIGANTIC cheap-looking animals. :p

VVVV
Seems like I heard this somewhere before. I like it!!

I propose for the IllumiNights event finale this season that the humongous garden critters get blown up on the trestle while the fireworks shoot up into the air. Twill be a fitting end. :D

^ So what they could do is switch the food and wine festival with Illuminights. That way there is a good event in the summer and a cheapo event during less populated time of season. Except leave the fireworks. Have them smell like food. :p

Fireworks and food is the perfect mix of a July kind of summer. I'm not one to like bugs and snails much, so it's great in my book!

Let me spell out why people hate Illuminights this year that I touched in the other thread. It's all about standards that people are used to that the park ignores now. You would have never of seen those animals at the park in the past, real work would have been put into them and they would have fit the scenery. Illuminights is supposed to be about magic, and with the exception of the Italy show this year, Illuinights simply doesn't have it or simply doesn't pass the standard set before.

The event is dead, it was dead last year and now we see it's rotting corpse this year.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

I think the butterflies are pretty.. BUT the toad, the snail, fireflies, and the turtle? No. The way they are made looks gaudy. JMO BUT I am sure it's a hit with the little ones

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

The butterflies were there since the beginning, so they were made profesionally to look good for a hopefully good event. These were made by third graders for an event without hope.

GLOW friends at night!!!
