So they got rid of the sweet fountain for a frog? I'd honestly be perfectly fine seeing the frog in another part of the park.

- Could this giant snails/caterpillars thing mean a parade is returning to Illuminights? Sounds like an interesting concept.

The fountain is still very much there, water, loose change, and all. They just put a frog on top of it. From what I gather, to try and incorporate the gardens theme into Illuminights they added garden creatures throughout the park for decor.

No parade is coming back, and honestly they don't have much room for one. I loved the one they had in France, but too many guests were complaining it was an inconvenience and in their way. Thus the reason for no more parade.

The fountain without the frog is still a million times better without it. At least paint it to match the colors or something. It sticks out worse than a sore thumb.

- Then again, Illuminights as a whole sticks out worse than a sore thumb.

- On another note, the Oktoberfest glow stand/tree actually looks kinda neat. But I actually think that area of the park would be put to better use as a minibar setup like Open Casket was. Sell some sweet light up Illuminights themed drinks right outside the park's biggest beer-drinking establishment. The Christmas lights embedded in the tables would be a sweet effect with a bar setup. I'm sure that setup would make waaaay more money than a silly glow stand.

You'd be surprised at how much those glow stands rake in. The biggest plus about these stands is they take credit cards. Carts don't, and many tourists want to get something for their kids and what better way to get them something fun than something that lights up! There are locals, like myself that enjoy these products as well. But this stuff can make almost 100% profit. For example, their pacifiers they get for maybe 50 cents but sell them for $5. Talk about profit.

You know, for all the crap everyone's picking on this event for, I'm actually looking forward to having my younger son seeing it for the first time & actually being able to remember it.....scaffolding and all. (Yes, I'll be bringing my own glow thingys, but I still plan on getting a glowing fedora hat....I just hope it's not made of plastic, but it probably is, huh?)

Having said all that, now that I gave all that I could to the Food & Wine Festival, I will do the same for the Illuminights for each hamlet. However, there will not be any pics, as my 2 year old son decided to swipe the camera from my office desk & "relocate" it somewhere in the house. Two weeks later, I still can't find the damn thing....But the show must go on. Reviews will be coming on Wednesday. :)

Btw, anyone else going on Tuesday evening??

When I worked at KD, I ran the "Night novelties" stands. ALL of them. I was the one replenishing the product, the one doing cash drops for everyone, etc. You would NOT BELIEVE the amount of money we'd rake in at the end of the night. The pile of cash was absolutely enormous. And believe me, the accounting had to be SPOT ON CORRECT. Right down to the $1 glow necklaces....We'd easily have a pile of close to $5 grand (on a SLOW night!)
and I'd have to count it all out by hand & separate the bills in stacks before we took it all to cash control at the end of the night.

Those glow things make a metric SHIT ton of money for the park. I can vouch for that.

EDIT: Those bees look oddly painted, yet I kinda like them. I do kinda prefer last year's cute glow stand fly mascot over the bees though. Maybe it's just me.

While glow stands make tons of money, alcohol makes a pretty nice killing too. I feel the way the stand is set up, you could easily turn it into a bar setup with a drink fountain around the tree. Use the spotlights and add a DJ stand on the overhead Festhaus walkway and you have a nice party spot.

The park could add a few glow carts around the area. One where the old HOS glow cart sat and the other across the path.

Stick the full sized, San Marco-style, bubble making stand inside that large square right outside Verbolten's queue across from the pretzel shop. I said that was a perfect, high traffic spot where you could place a stand last year during the whole "gaudy glow stand replacing the grape stomp" fiasco.

Btw, anyone else going on Tuesday evening??

I should be in the same spot as usual this coming Tuesday. Message me if you wanna do a quick meetup.

Hmm, actually, not a bad idea, convert a Greek food booth into the Glow booth? Although those look more like giant lightning bugs or fireflies. No stinger and they light up ;)

Truste me Indy, I know, I really do know.

Honestly, that toad reminds me of those "other" parks that have goofy animals for mascots. Guess what guys it's Tommy Toad the new BGW mascot! :p

On another related note, that rainbow bridge for Ireland looks fabulous (if we had to have one).

I don't know what to think. The animals, while much better than what I could do, just don't look like they belong. Oh how I wish we had the France parade back. I'm usually a little optimistic about everything, but this whole event is really confusing this year.

Killarney Kommotion still doesn't look bad as a set. Not sure what is whimsical or magical about the construction site though. It clashes with the rainbow decorations.

I'll need to drink extra I guess.

Ireland's main problem is there aren't any beer flights there, which is a travesty. I mean, what goes better with the whole Irish experience than, well.....BEER? :)

OktoberFest "GLOW Island"

I forgot to snap a good pic of it, but the counter-top definitely looks like a bar. It even has lights built into it. There are cabinets inside the walls of the ring. Also, there are plenty of light poles & strobe or spotlights surrounding this thing. Must turn into a DJ party or something with adult beverages at night. The leaves on the tree look interesting. They either have lights built into them, or the leaf vein etchings reflect light. Might look pretty cool at night.

Those lights are almost up year round. No strobes are present. The tree will be lit from below...you can see the led lights resting at the base of the tree. The leaves are etched only. What you see as a light is actually a bedazzled jewel. :( You will also notice lights in the trees on either side of glow island. Germany will boast 4k+ lights for illuminights...
