Now that the flame war is starting to die down, I'd like to suggest something. While an 18+ house would be awesome, as I'll be 19 on the 23rd, it's not gonna happen nor will it solve most of the problems. I think the park needs to post and have guests "adopt" some-sort of rules of conduct policy, much like they have for their rides; ie the Line Cutting Policy and such. While it won't solve everything, like drunkards, it's a start and is more likely to happen than anything. A policy like this wouldn't work overnight either, but would take time and effort from the park to enforce.

I still like the 18 or under requires an adult (21+) policy. What are your thoughts on it, DoctorMoneyMD?

I apologize that I helped get it to flamewar level, I was bored yesterday. :V

That being said, I would still love a house that's 12 plus.

yea I also post on the caazone boards which is a forum that has boards for all the colonial athletic teams. Every thread on the general board just consists of odu/vcu/gmu guys calling each other idiots. It's definitely entertaining.

That wasn't flamewar level- flamewars are much more entertaining. :p

You obviously haven't been in the middle of a Linux-Mac/BSD flame war. Not only are they completely pointless, because they are essentially the same (both being UNIX-like environments), they just prove how stupid people are.

What you call a flamewar I call a good logical debate between several people making good, valid points.

I appreciate what you're trying to do...but I think I'm hung up on the 18 number. Like, there is definitely a difference between the 25+ crowd and the -15 crowd, but I just don't see a big difference in the 16-22 range. 18, to me, seems so arbitrary, because I just don't see any kind of real bahavior difference at that cut-off point.

PG-13 is about as restricted as I'm willing to go. No one under 10-ish permitted at all, no one under 13-ish without an adult, and wide open at 14+. That's gonna be it for me, Swift, and I'm not even really comfortable with that.

^yes, because what does it mean? The point of the age limit for a house has been established as two-fold.

1) Maturity and knowing how to act.

2) Development and the ability to handle what you're seeing.

18 does does not mark a significant milestone in either of those categories, to me, because:

1) An 18 year old is going to act pretty much like a 16/17 year old in the mazes. So, if that's the case, I'm letting 16/17 in, too.

2) There won't be anything in any of the mazes that a 17 y/o wouldn't be able to handle looking at, so 18 doesn't hold up as a reasonable standard in this regard, ether. Really, by 14 you should be good to go in terms of maze content.

So, like I said, I don't see 18 making any sense as an age restriction. 14? Sure. 25? Sure. 18? There's just no reason, other than "that's tradition," which is a poor reason to do anything.

True, there is no maturity difference between 17 and 19, I'm with you on that. I'm also with you that it's tradition, and I totally agree that tradition can be a crappy reason to do something. However, it's a legal standard designed to keep minors from smoking, looking at porn, entering legal contracts, ect. Those things require different levels of maturity, but legally your on a leash until then.

How about what I suggested earlier? An up charge 18 plus house with "R" content with no explicitly sexual content (nudity, sex acts, sexual language)?

i would only consider it if it was a legal thing, where they were concerned about someone's parents being upset at what was in the house.

If it was 18 plus, it wouldn't matter. They could justify it as "18 and up only due to the graphic nature of the house. Feel free to visit one of our other attractions."

The entitlement in todays world would not allow for something like this to really work at BGW. People would still argue with workers over allowing them to let their kids into the house. I for one would love a house or two for 18+, but realistically, it just won't happen.

If they really want to do an upcharge for the event, they should do as BGT does. I would like to see a comparison of attendance for both parks. I feel if BGW could upcharge for an event, they would have by now. I doubt they would just leave money on the table. Especially in the economy we are in.

I think the only thing we all agree on is that it will never happen. I think BG knows that there's this entitlement issue which is also why they won't even enforce 13+. The best option is for them to beef up security.

Somewhat on topic, does anybody know if Security Guards were visible in Alone?

I'm pretty sure I saw security in every maze last year. Which i'm perfectly fine with. It lets people know they are being watched.

I think if BG were to hand out flyers at the front parking entrance like they do at times would be a good idea. Just put a notice that playing around in the mazes will not be tolerated and you can be removed etc. I think if parents see this first and relay the message to their kid it would work out better. I know when I was younger, were to embarrass my parents by getting kicked out of a maze, it would be all over.

I know some parents just don't care, but I do think this would help.

It might work if the parents were with the kids.

Most of the kids I saw last year acting up in the mazes walked out and met their parents. Also, those who are able to drive, are usually a bit more mature. I realize that this doesn't apply to everyone, but the more they do to help prevent the issue, the better.

I don't remember if they did this last year or not, but did they put recommended ages for the mazes on the park map? I think a recommend min age for each house would be the best bet for the park. It's also a "We told you so" type deal for when parents complain their kids are mentally unstable.
I'd even throw the behavior warning on the map also. Just to get my point across.

Maybe i'll throw something in my app as a PSA, for what little it might help. I really can't wait to read the facebook comments about how its too scary for their kids...
